Kanye's got steeze. I like that jacket, flawless fit, but the sweater is too baggy IMO. He's doing that on purpose, but he's also Kanye and can wear whatever the fuck he wants because every chick is going to jump his bones anyway.

Jesus this turned into a long post.

Personally I don't wear many suits because my lifestyle no longer demands it, but I have to disagree about some points regarding suit collars and cuts in a few of the previous posts because not all styles and colors work on all men. For instance, short slim black dudes can wear suits in styles and colors that'd look absurd on an extra big white boy like me and vice versa. It just depends on your body, style and skin tone.

There was a time when my job demanded that I wear suits so I read extensively on the subject and spoke with many tailors about how to dress because I wanted maximum value for each dollar outlaid. I also spent a lot of time reading the Ask Andy forum. I learned about how to mix patterns, fabrics, and all that shit. The main thing I learned though is that everyone is not suited to wear every suit.

As an aside like someone said there's absolutely no reason to buy a designer shirt or suit unless it floats your boat when you can have one made for a better price with designer fabrics that's cut to your exact specifications. I'm not hating but I'm just saying that every dollar counts. Personally I generally hate to wear trademarks or trademark styles. Advertising costs money and I hate to give away value for free, or worse yet pay to advertise someone else's company.

Anyway, I was taught that a shirt's collar should be a continuation or otherwise complement of a man's facial lines so that if you had a V-shaped face, for instance, the collar should continue or complement those lines. Something like this gets the the crux of my point.

My face is roundish with a short to medium length beard, so I found that I like rounded collars because they complement my body and no one else wears them. I stand out anyway because I am basically NFL 4-3 defensive lineman large so I don't mind standing out a bit more. YMwillV.

Also, regardless of trends three button coats are best for me because I have a long and wide torso and short legs for someone my height. That also means I unfortunately can't shop retail for suits because the standard drop (i.e. the difference between the chest and waist sizes) is too little for a good alteration. Given that constraint I learned to prefer suits with a ticket pocket, double vents, a medium break, plain fronts, a mildly high rise to show off my ass, and a slightly slimming jacket, mainly because all of these things are functional and accent my broad shoulders and body shape. I'm also a winter skin tone so I tend to wear darker-toned colors and sparingly use complementary bright colors to pop when I want to pop. Again YMwillV.

My main point is that no one style of suit or shirt will work for everyone. If I wore traditional English full spread collars with a full Windsor knot I'd look like shit even though I love the way they look, but that style works for many men. And double breasted suits don't work for me because I like to wear my suit unbuttoned if it's the least bit warm. Plus I'm a laid back guy with a relaxed attitude 90% of the time so I tend to fasten one button (the middle of course - from the top it's sometimes/always/never for a three button) if any at all. It just depends on your body type and lifestyle.

These days I like tweed sports coats (love the fuckers in fact), turtleneck sweaters, old broken in STF black, traditional dark blue, green or grey 501s, shemaghs as scarves and tweed Kangol caps. If I have to wear a suit I'll wear it with a silk square stuffed-in style and a tie that complements the suit's pattern and/or color. Sometimes I wear a square with my tweed for no reason. For some reason the tweed really draws attention.

Socks and other accessories complement everything else too, but I go light on jewellery. Just a nice elegant Limes steel automatic (again partially because no one else wears them around here and I like to be a beautiful and unique snowflake) and some kind of simple bracelet unless it would be inappropriate.

It works for me and that's what counts.

I have a No. 1 spot to buy shoes: shoes.com - Pick any brand/style you want, shoes.com will likely have it, even the elite Mark Nasons you will see me wear all the time.

Shirts/jackets/etc - I don't have any set "go-to" places. I just go everywhere, or anywhere I may find myself.

Some great advice there. Especially this. There have been a lot of black faces posted in this thread. While some black men can get away with very garish and contrasting colours, few white men can. Also, someone who has a dark complextion, hair and brown eyes has to wear a different colour palatte to someone who is fair of complextion, has blonde or red hair and blue eyes. Finding your type and working it has a massive effect.

Excellent post, I'm on the larger side myself and I've noticed a long time ago that what looks good on the rack might not look good on me, even if it should "fit".

I'd like to add that a IMO a well tailored 300 -500 suit looks infinitely better than an expensive "brand" suit that doesn't quite fit your physique. I definitely agree that a well dressed man will get noticed but IMO it's more cost effective to focus on ones physique, your own individual style and inner game.

Because what happens is that you inevitably have to back up the image that you are presenting to these ladies. If you don't have the game to do that - meaning you don't really own that condo or you cant really afford those expensive designer suits- you will eventually get FOUND OUT and TOSSED OUT.

One cat whose style I really admire is Ahmed Elkhatib. He's an Egyptian singer who I didn't know about until I went to Cairo last year, where a mutual friend introduced us. This cat has a strong following overseas, surprisingly. He's done shows all over Europe and the Middle East and has captured flags from dozens of countries around the world. And yeah, unless it's a dive bar.. I don't see a place where a suit is out of place at all. It just displays value and makes you look way better than you really are.

Question for everyone: Your a 17 year old in high school. How would you dress when you're going out? Even G hinted that 21 is pretty young to fully rock out in a custom suit. (plus 17 year old's can't afford that shit unless they're a trust fund baby). Thoughts?

If you are 17, then you are obviously going to places where 99% of the girls are minors like yourself. In this case, I would say imitate Justin Bieber.

I would NEVER recommend and adult man dress like that, but teeny girls are attracted to boys who look feminine, and girly like (not 100% gay), just feminine. Justin Bieber fits this style perfectly, which is why he makes the 13-18 year old girls soak their hello kitty panties, and carry extra panty protectors with them.

It is not until a woman reaches 23 that she starts to be attracted to men that look like Vin Diesel or dress GQ like Usher or the guys posted above.

haha, I can see what you mean by the cats being feminine. I'm a musician in new york, and circle's are quite small so I've had a few run in's with these cats they're down to earth people.

I'm a year older than you, but I've been told I look like I'm in my early 20's so I get away dressing nicer than most people my age when I go out. I would personally advise you to grow out your facial hair, pack on some more muscle, then try to dress like this:



Not too formal, not too muted,

If you don't want to do that, I would try something like kick boxer's attire.

Mofo-you could replace the sneakers with something a little more formal: white/beige/cream boat shoes, loafers, suede shoes, canvas shoes. Although, for hs I wouldn't recommend anything too fancy unless you wear it solely for going out, as hs is never really a clean place.

Anyone ever try emulating the style of "Tyler Durden" in fight club? Brad Pitt makes it look great, but you could cover him in hog shit and he'd still look great. I'm wondering how the average (or above average- since the average guy is either fat or a twig) guy would look in it.... good or poser?
