My lease is running out in a couple of months and my roommate is joining the marines. I have to find a new place to live. I have the opportunity to move into this huge $600,000 house with a friends for only $500 a month with all utilities, electric, and internet paid for. The house is thirty minuets away from my university and bars. The house is inside of a gated area, it is built around a pool has a Jacuzzi and there are huge windows installed in the walls, imagine a wall of hockey rink sized windows. There's a loft, a great room, a huge living room, a game room with a bar, big kitchen, four bathrooms. Looks like a house a porno would be filmed in.

OR I could move into an apartment that is much much smaller. It would only be five minuets away from the college and within walking distance of the bars. Living in that apartment would be a little more expensive.


I'm in a pickle and need to make up my mind soon. I'm curious about what you guys think.

What would you do?

It depends on your lifestyle. I don't own a lot of shit, so I'd rather have a small place that's close to the action, plus I fucking hate driving. Gotta think logistics too - if you're bringing girls back to your place, you don't want to drive for half an hour, no matter how swanky the pad is.

I'm thinking about the bomb-ass parties you could throw at the house. You could invite chicks out and let them stay overnight if they want to. It's a great place to host. The downside is the location. If you're out drinking, you ALWAYS have to drive back. It's harder to bring a chick back because you're out of the way, and you'll have to drive her back in the morning or put her in a cab. Another positive is the possible savings, and it would allow you to put some money away.

The upside of the apartment is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. It could be a worthwhile trade-off for the extra money, as you generally will pay a little more for convenience of being near entertainment and services.

I might be inclined to do the house thing and put away money, then move to an apartment in a better location some time down the line.

The problem is he said the house is in a gated community, so I doubt he could throw any parties. A big house like this is probably in an area with middle to upperclass home owners. Type of people who would call the cops/security/landlord if you had music on past 9PM.

Would be dope to have a house like this you could throw parties at, but gated communities fucking suck.

Well it's not exactly a gated community, the house itself is gated like A mafia compound. The friends I know who live there now throw huge parties a few times a month. But yeah the cops are onto them so the parties can't be excessively huge like they were when they first moved in. I was there I think on thanksgiving and three cop cars arrivedat around 6 am. They surrounded the house and shines flashlights through the gates and into the windows

Holy shit dude I would take the sick house every single time in this situation. For me it would totally be worth the extra drive time and gas money, although I've never lived in a huge house like that so I guess the novelty of it would wear off at some point.

Yeah that's how I kind of feel. As far as girls go I could just meet them on campus and go to their place to bang them.

Maybe living further away would help me focus on school more as well. I would spend the majority of my time on campus, at the library, and at other peoples apartments.

I voted for the apartment, but having read the thread I'd say the big house. Throwing parties there will be a huge DHV and the house being somewhat isolated may well work in your favour when girls will want to stay over.

The jacuzzi and bar are the kind of bachelor pad trappings that will make things MUCH easier.

You'll just have to get creative about logistics and avoid drinking when you're out so you can drive back.

My knee jerk reaction (and the one I voted) is the big baller house. Its cheaper, you're live more comfortably, and a pimpt ass pad is always a nice thing when trying to get laid.

Also think about this, since proximity seems to be an issue, do you really want to be so close to your hunting grounds that Random Bitch #3 is very capable of just showing up at your front door whenever she wants?

Save your money and live better.

Only clincher is the personality of the guy you'd be living with. If he's a spazz then that changes things, if he's cool then no problem.

Good points here, voted for Big house. Distance between pads and clubs is pretty common in America (places I've visited). I guess it shouldn't be much of a problem to your logistics.

I'm going to go against the grain and vote apartment, 100 percent, here. The rockstar parties may sound good on paper, but dealing with the logistics of tons of other sausage, messy roommates, and the distance (getting bitches to and from, or willing to go out there) would negate a lot of the benefit. What's more, you're not going to want to spend the money and effort of throwing epic parties every week, so you'd be living way the fuck out just for the sake of a once-in-a-while thing. Being near the action--every single day--especially if you can live on your own there, is a much better situation.

Setting up a controlled, well-planned bachelor pad is superior--in my opinion--than a fraternity-house set-up (especially one that is that far away).

Don't be seduced by fantasy. Think practically.

If you pick the house you're going to end up wanting to kill the dudes you live with in a month. You're going to have to deal with other peoples dirty dishes and eventually have to deadbolt your door and hide your beer in a minifridge. Everyones going to kill your food so you will spend more eating out and will lose the savings. In your own place you can fuck all over without built-in cockblockers. I know you're thinking those dudes are cool but they won't be soon. I've never seen this work out. Ever.
Tampa is a half an hour from my place and is a nightmare for me to pull a girl back here so even though it's easy I don't go there too much. I either have to deal with females shitty logistics or get a room to base myself from at 100+ a night.

Live alone if you can. Nothing like it.

30 minutes is too much - 15 min drive is the most I'll tolerate. What about grocery shopping? Going to school? Too much other bullshit to really be worth it.

I lived in a frat house for a year in college; it got old after a semester.

Plus, a nice house attracts hot women 25 and up. You're in college. College girls don't give a fuck about where you live as long as you can turn them on.

Apartment, all the way. It will pay off huge for your game. The house is a gimmick to try and get girls to go home with you. But be real: a girl would rather walk one minute to fuck over thirty minutes to fuck.

Id take the apartment just to have my own space, and for the convenience of living within a 5 minutes walk from the bars. But the luxury house seems like too sweet a deal to pass on.

(You are saying "5 minutes of school and walking distance to bars" so Im going to assume that you do own a vehicle)

You have also to calculate living costs. Living in the luxury house will also have hidden costs you have to take into considerations. For example, if you are living in the mansion and entertain some females, then you cant be serving them cheap booze. The good life is just more expensive.

Plus, theres the human cost. Do your roomates to be have game? Will they help you grow or hold you down? Are they in on the same deal, or are they giving you a hand out letting you pay just $500 to live with them? The ammenities of living in a mansion wont be of any use to you if you end up spending all your time locked in your room to avoid talking to your roomies. (Also, you will have to deduct 1 hour everyday from your free time)

If you are still in school, take the small apartment. Keep it clean and hang some mirrors so it ll appear more spacious, and cut corners in every way you can to save some extra money. Then spend that extra money on booze and condoms. (Alternatively, use that money to set up a website that can make you some money, like a lifestyle and savings tips website for college students who want to live the good life on a budget)

Kick-ass parties every other week and a jacuzzi might give you the illusion that theyll get you laid, but in reality, you can get just as laid with a six pack of canadian beer and a futon. And you wont have any brodrama to deal with.

Want to experiment? Give the head guy some advance money and tell them you need to crash for a couple of weeks while you get your next lease right or some excuse. After a few days you will see for yourself how much you will hate to live with those guys for even a semester.

Take the small apartment, keep it clean and fresh, hang some framed artwork, keep your guitar and some bongo drums in display, place a big down comforter on your bed, and keep the fridge stocked with bubbly and beers (not corona nor cheap store-brands) and you will have the females on parade.

Best benefit for roomies is split expenses=cheaper. But in the 48 laws of Power, Rob Greene says that we don't really know our friends as most people conceal their less savory qualities. When you live with them you'll see the guy who will steal your food, the other one who blows his nose on your towel, dude who does number 2 and never flushes, etc. They could be WhiteKnights who think game is pathetic...

My advice, small apartment. No cockblocking, it's yours to do w/e you want. Roomies are a crapshoot at best but with your own place you get what you put into it. The additional $ isn't that much more for piece of mind.
