What's your take on the popular music industry today?



I'm no prude but I believe that the record companies are intentionally marketing sex to young children via popular music and I see this as a problem.

It's ubiquitous but here are a few recent examples off the top of my head:

BB Talk by Miley Cyrus - A video featuring Miley in fetish "baby clothing"; song is written in 12 year old teenybopper speak but contains explicit sex references. (So it's either written for emotionally challenged adults, or sexually delinquent teens.)

Blow my Whistle - By Flo Rida - Basically a graphic description of how to give a blowjob but completely obvious euphamisms.

Truffle Butter by Nicki Minaj - A song about poop mixed with cum... literally.

And countless others.

Sure 100 years ago 'raunchy' entertainment was still around, but it was confined to burlesque shows or obscure venues exclusively for adults.

Rather than blasted over the airwaves which 12 year old kids listen to, or instantly available for kids to access via the internet.

When I mention things like this to young progressives, they usually just rebut with some spiel about how "kids have always been like that; only old codgers whine about 'kids these days'".

But fact is even if sex has always been used in popular music, the level of explicitness and availability today compared to past generations is quite different.

There's a big difference between a song like Mick Jagger's "I can't get no satisfaction" which vaguely alludes to sex, and songs which are graphic lyrical descriptions of sex acts, and music videos which are basically softcore porn.

Kind of like the difference between the levels of "violence" in a Bugs Bunny cartoon and a Saw film.

Plus in the past, the 'rebellious' music about sex and drugs was typically produced by independent artists looking to get attention, as opposed to something which was methodically churned out by major corporations.

So what's your opinion on this? Myself I'm pretty disgusted at the record corporations for intentionally marketing smut to children, and I think this may have a more negative affect on children's influences than a lot of people believe.

(The disproportionately high crime rate among African American youth for example may very well be influenced by the popularity of gangsta rappers; coupled with the lack of fathers in the house many young boys may end up looking at them as role models and idolizing their fictitious lifestyle).

One thing to be understood here: childhood as something separate and apart from adulthood is not that old a concept.

Letting Dan Simmons take the podium here for a second--

(The reference to Dickens is not accidental. Dickens' family had been sent to a debtors' prison, and he worked in a blacking factory - at the age of 12. In some places in England -- Lancashire -- 80% of boys aged 10-14 were working as child labour in factories.)

Of course, the real thirst of the economic engine these days is not for human producers, but human consumers. And once again we've turned to kids (with stupid, shit parents who don't defend their own children against the nightmare of Western culture) to power the economic engine.

I'd add that not only are record companies pushing sex on children - they're also brainwashing young girls to embrace militant feminism, Meghan Trainor's song no is a perfect example in which she sings about rejecting men. This "I'm a strong independent woman who don't need no man" mentality often stems from the entertainment young girls obsess over while posting pictures of their tits and ass on Instagram to the delight of their beta orbiting cuck followers.

The chicks mentioned make horrific music, no arguments from me. But I'll stand up for the pop rappers, at least they mimic alpha attitude. Better than all the lame dude with an acoustic guitar songs where they grovel to girls.

The emo/pop punk/indie hipster stuff is exactly great either.

Basically my opinion is that rock n roll bit the dust with the grunge era and beyond; up until the end of the 80s it still had an 'alpha' attitude, but then grunge and alternative rock came and rock lost its testicles.

Now it's primarily just songs about whiny teens crying because they can't get a girlfriend or because their girl dumped them for the alpha because they were too much of a 'nice guy'.

The alpha rap attitude, done right, will make girls sexually-attracted to you.

The sensitive rock attitude, done right, will make girls sexually-obsessed with you.

Both approaches have their advantages.

It's all Game.

1) When writing a song, tap into a core emotional truth of what you're feeling.

2) Make sure the song is emotionally-dynamic: peaks of intensity and quieter valleys that mirrors the emotional unrest that exists at the core of women.

3) Now, replace every "I feel" statement with a "You feel" statement so she feels the song is actually about her, not you. Women don't want to hear about your emotions, they want to hear you reflect their emotions back to them, which makes them ascribe your deep-perception of women to being highly-experienced with them.

Remember that old Roberta Flack song, 'Killing me softly with his song', that's had a long shelf-life in the Hip Hop and R&B community?

I remember liking Chris Issak's first album when I was fourteen or so and not understanding why he wasn't more popular because he seemed like a good-looking guy with a great voice, but his next couple of albums also went nowhere.

Of course, by his third album in 1989, I'd figured girls out. No matter his looks, his songs are sending out constant signals he's a loser Beta. Here's an early one:

Those "I..." sections are him apologising for being dumped, and then he caps it off with the male entitlement of 'You owe me....' I can hear the pussy drying up from here. Once a woman is no longer attracted to you, she feels she doesn't owe you anything.

By the 90's, I could recognise this sort of thing, so could predict figures like Matthew Sweet or Evan Dando would never gain much traction with women despite record companies hyping them hard.

So why did Issak finally have a hit record, two years after its original release, and raise his value with women? Nothing more than social proof: a video where he sulked on a beach with topless supermodel Helana Christensen. The original, supermodel-free video a year before gained no attention at all.

HOW TO REALLY NOT DO IT

Artists like Robert Smith of the Cure, or Andy Partridge of XTC.

At first Andy was like:

Back in the day, I always wondered why Chris Isaak never did anything for me. He looked so good on paper. I lived in San Francisco in the early eighties and used to see him around town, surfing and stuff. Couldn't figure out why he wasn't more famous.

Oh, the irony of 'Wicked Game' displaying such awful game.

As far as I can tell modern pop music is completely contrived and written by a handful of people behind the scenes - the 'artists' are simply the face and image. So the music isn't music, it's a message disguised as music, hence your 'girl power' shit that's getting more and more prevalent.

BBC Radio 1 Extra (a morning radio show) is full of gangsta rap, except the swearing is bleeped out. So kids going to school are hearing these messages, and kids being kids will find out what the swearing is pretty damn quick (usually 'nigga'). It really bugs me that we pump kids' heads full of violence, swearing, and actual misogyny and then lose our shit when one of them actually repeats one of the words they hear. Plus, they have a segment each morning on 'national anthems' (whatever they're promoting as great music), and play a refrain from 'Rule Britannia'...which is not a national anthem. They also did a special on Michael Jackson, played 'Beat It', and then waxed lyrical about what a great solo SLASH performed. Professional DJs for fuck's sake. Added to that the DJs speak with appalling 'street' grammar, and it's no bloody wonder that kids are growing up stupid.

I used to think there was something wrong with me, that I was the asshole for guarding myself against the nonsense preached in pop music. I feel better having found some company of like-minded guys IRL and this forum.

The only "good" or let's say "trying not to promote some agenda" pop music is made by musicians who are so big that they're basically untouchable. Think Eminem. The guy has so many fans around the world that even though he's been smeared multiple times, it's never really taken off and is even a form of rebellion.
In fact I use the first few lyrics of "criminal" to piss off LGBT advocates.
Plus I don't really mind these whiny songs from male pop artists. Ed sheeran isn't having a problem, nor is Justin Bieber. I listen to and sing these songs and the girls like it. I don't act like that in real life. Don't judge me. Heh.

From what I can see, top performers in the music industry today can be divided into two groups:

1) damaged hoes singing about how awesome they are and how everyone should worship their supreme bitchiness;
2) effeminate men singing in high pitched voices about how terribly in love they are with whatever girl keeps on ignoring them.

Tune in to any big radio station in your area, and within 15 minutes you'll hear a song from an 'artist' belonging to one of the two groups above. And if my memory serves me well, this phenomenon of hoes/faggots in the music industry is not more than 10 years old. I remember my high school days in the early 2000s, music like this didn't exist back then.

I think the digital era is what is killing pop music.

Now that 12 year old boys and girls have instant access to Itunes and YT music videos, they can market shitty music directly to the kids via the internet.

In the past there was more parental oversight so the music had to have some redeeming value in order for parents to buy it for their kids.

(The only standard now if any is that it be politically correct - and push a slutty 'feminist' narrative to girls; rappers do seem to be the exception to the rule as far as political correctness goes, probably because rap is associated with the black community and left wingers want to avoid alienating one of their demographics).

I was in a bar over the weekend when Selena Gomez's 'come and get it' came on. The intro is a sample from an Indian song and I was struck by how it contrasted with the song itself once the beat kicks in and Selena starts singing. I found a version with the Indian intro extended here:





Pure, simple and soulful. Loud, obnoxious, vacuous. The contrast is absurd.

From what I can find the sampled song is in Punjabi or Hindi and is a lament by a man who is missing his wife. It might be bluepilled, but you can afford to be if you are to marry a virgin you have known since childhood. And it reminded me that there are still pockets of this all around the world, from Africa and India to areas of eastern Europe. Men and women in villages, small towns and rural areas with mating options severely restricted by geography coupling up and falling in love at a young age. Their shared memories create bonds I don’t think we can imagine in the atomized west, having known each other since childhood and growing up in the same community. Knowing the same people and their habits, the characters, the pillars of the community, the vagrants. Growing up with memories of the same places, the river the children would swim in, the cricket field, the schoolyard, the market. They are bonded not only by being part of the same community, but importantly by geography.

This is contrasted with the west where we move around so much we often end up unattached to any particular place. And eventually two geographically detached, atomised individuals, whose pair-bonding mechanism has been atrophied by casual relationships, are expected to come together and fall in love in the same way people did hundreds of years ago. People who would have been bonded by geographical proximity over such a length of time that it would actually hurt to be away from one another. People who became not just husband and wife, but family.

And this is how we end up with this contrast. A sincere lament evoking true emotion contrasted with vapid, overly-sexualised pop music sung with no emotional authenticity. The west has forgotten the basis of healthy long-lasting relationships, equating it with nice feelings, rather than a bond built by time and shared geography, and in the case of women at least, undiluted by having multiple sexual partners. Lacking any understanding or experience of these deep bonds, for our music to be relatable it must reflect what we do have experience of – sex.

There are two main reasons for why popular music has reached the bottom of the barrel over the past decade or so. The first is related to the actual business:





The second is less tangible as it is related to a increasing lack of identity and cultural cohesion among Western populations. A generation in which women are pitted against men and don't want to bear children anymore, minorities (not for long) are pitted against whites, in which gender lines are blurred beyond recognition, acute population replacement has become the norm, and where one economic crisis follows the next while net wages are stagnant, is not one that feels inspired to produce memorable art or music.

Obviously this is a comprehensive topic but at the core of it all sits the pseudo-nihilistic assumption that everything is relative and only your perception matters:





In a nutshell: the best way to demoralize and to control people is to rob them of their own culture, to take away what binds and inspires them to live up to a higher standard or a bigger cause. The destruction of families via pandering toward queers and sexual deviants is only a part of a bigger endeavor to destroy the West as we know it. And all one has to do is to look outside one's window to realize that their goal has been pretty much accomplished.
