Ive been reading through this series and it is HILARIOUS, the perfect type of light reading for the rvf crowd. Its historical fiction, which is very accurate yet manages to be engaging and hilarious through most of the books.

The protagonist is Harry Flashman, a lecherous, charming, slut slaying, self centered, neer do well who manages to get himself tangled up in the pivotal events of victorian england.

Human nature, especially that of the feral sluts we know too well is on point in these books. I can not give these books as much praise as they deserve they are seriously funny. I was reading through reviews and the men all love the series while women abhor flashy( while probably secretly getting wet ) if you are in need of some light reading, while also getting a dose of history check these books out they are great.

When i get gold im switching this shitty username to Harry Flashman in honor of my new hero.

I read them years ago as a teenager and loved them. Really should re-read them soon. I'd say quite a lot of members of the forum would enjoy them.

I'm a fan; been meaning to start a Flashman thread but never got around to it. They've been talking about making a new Flashman film for years now but it never seems to materialize. I think Ridley Scott and Domonic West are pushing for it.

A well made film would be fantastic. I'd have my doubts Hollywood would make it properly and not water down Flashman's caddishness, but Deadpool was done surprisingly well so you never know I guess.

It' s more of a comedy and I'm not sure if it's consistent with the books' spirit (I haven't read them) but I remember I enjoyed it when I saw it many, many years ago...

Apparently these are based on the Flashman character from the classic novel Tom Brown's Schooldays. For some reason, my grandmother thought it was very important for my moral development that we watch the 1970s BBC mini-series of the same name. Typical British public school hazing by the sadistic Flashman, floggings by the headmaster in front of the whole school and so on.

If any of you ever watched Blackadder, a recurring character in there "Flashheart" is based on Flashman.

Yes there is audiobooks, its in first person and the british guy who reads it is on point. The last few he wrote when he was older arent as good but arent bad by any means.

I LOVE these books. "Victorian Archer" is the perfect descritpion.

In the first book, young Flashman is expelled from boarding school for drunkenness, fucks his father's mistress, punches her, then joins the army by buying himself an officership position (an acceptable practice in the 1840s).

That's the first chapter.

I think "Flashman" should be a new postcount rank that comes after "Innovatice Casanova".

Blackadder is a great series, Rowan Atkinson is made for roles like this. He actually starts as a buffoon loser like Mr Bean and, during the series and different eras, he becomes more and more like Flashman. Also, if you are into it, the Warhammer40K universe has Commisar Caiaphas Cain, a similar character.
