Honestly I don't care for either the Italian ad or this one. They both garner cheap laughs from the lowest common denominator. I'm not against them either. However, I would be thrilled to see Black Knight's suggestion of the machine forcing a SJW to turn into a feminine long-haired woman.

What I found the most interesting about this is that they didn't pick a dark-skinned Chinese person to participate in the commercial. They used a foreigner. It's like they didn't want the commercial to hit too close to home, "so let's just choose some guy who has nothing to do with Chinese culture and will make our stuff go viral at the same time".

I bet they would have gotten in even more trouble if they picked up some tan skinned field worker from a far-off province.

How's all that cultural enrichment and "investment" from the middle east and North Africa working out for Europe?

Like I said before Asia is not a multicultural destination. No one is throwing out a mass invite for people of the world to settle and make a living there or to form their own foreign communities.

You can't expect people in Asia to be P.C. about these things and in fact the case is getting stronger that the worst they could do is submit to the western multuculturalist type of thinking. Protecting ones nation and ethnic boundaries will win out in the end.

I seriously doubt a laundry ad will lead to mass pullout of investment. Most of the investment is in manufacturing and export industry to begin with. One hand washes the other these days between the globalist elites of asia and the west.

Zero of which give two fucks about a mindless commercial showcasing a black dude in a washing machine.

Anyhow the most "racism" people will get when visiting most of asia is some stares and comments about the novelty of it all that would make people who grew up in the west butthurt but it's harmless.

At the end of the day no one is going to be dragging black people behind trucks or hanging people up in trees like christmas ornaments.

If racism was so extreme it's doubtful T.K. would have had the success he did there. Yes it's odd to think of it that way but it's true. China and Russia differed in this regard as well. Russia made an effort to integrate its minorities and sub nationalities into one Soviet identity.

China tended to keep those ethnic boundaries but made it mandatory to submit to the state. So a lot of minorities kept their identities but it was generally frowned upon and they were treated as almost separate nationalities in some ways.

Modern day Russia is an unraveling of those previous Soviet ideals into their own modern day nationalist and pan slavic identity.

Whereas China has always maintained that nationalist and han dominant cultural perception of itself.

Racial sensitivity is a slippery slope. Everyone makes fun of everyone. Even in this thread people are ragging on asians, blacks, etc... whatever.

Chinese and Sub Saharan African relations at the state and personal level are going to be interesting in the next 100 years. They're so diametrically different culturally and politically, yet share some of the most common undesirable traits (corruption, indifference to fellow citizens, hierarchal societal structure). Maybe 10 years ago I would've said China could potentially have colonized Africa in the future, but with Africa's population boom that's not going to happen barring any black swan events.

There's only going to be more interaction between these societies and cultures. The little racist incidents will always occur. Every so often there's some Chinese businessman that gets caught doing something anti-black/anti-african or unscrupulous in Africa, then gets arrested, and subsequently deported (sometimes not even to the right country).

Then you get China itself, not the most black friendly place. Every so often Chinese police will detain africans who've overstayed their visas, rough them up, and deport them (sometimes it might kill a man or two). Then there will be riot. An african country will respond in kind by rounding up some Chinese labourers, miners, or businessmen, throw some charges on them and toss them out by the thousands.

China needs Africa's resources (not just gold or oil, but access to arable land too), and Africa's countries badly need any form of infrastructure investment to rev up their industries and support their growing populations. But both societies are proud, and neither will take kindly to blatant disrespect and racist indiscretions. Ultimately governments on both sides will over the long term try to get their peasants to smooth out relations so they can keep the money flowing.

Nothing worse than racism and blind nationalism getting in the way of making money. And one thing both Africans and Chinese love doing is making money. No matter how greasy the method is.

In my opinion things will continue as they are indefinitely. Despite the media hype China is actually not all powerful. China can't even contain regional dissent in its own backyard.

China is dealing with Africa in a much more peer like fashion than it would seem on the surface. This means there will be give and take balancing out over time with regards to this. Right now China has a slight upper hand but it will balance out if various african nations it deals with currently advance to the next level.

A true colonial relationship is mostly about supplanting the local authority and extraction of resources in a way where the natives benefit little to nothing from it. It's patently untrue that Africa does not benefit...the elites certainly benefit in various African countries but the problem is bad governance. People cry exploitation when actually the problems are mostly internal and already endemic within those nations before they ever did business with China.

Just look at the relationship between other commodities nations and China. Canada, Australia, and Brazil have profited handsomely off China's rise. The reason is..good governance.

edit: OK maybe not so much Brazil when it comes to good governance but the middle class certainly did benefit in some ways from a real trickle down effect from the commodities boom.
