Quick backstory: Met a chick in Bogota over the summer when I was vacationing for a couple of weeks, stayed in touch, vacationed with her again in San Andres Island in December, had a blast, etc. It's a very casual, "open" relationship, but she's super cool and I'd certainly like to hang with her again.

Now she wants to visit me in the states in April when I'll be spending some time in Miami. Here's the issue: she's been denied twice a tourist visa by the embassy in Bogota, with the last rejection about four months ago. Every other family member of hers has been successful in obtaining a tourist visa to the USA, but she keeps getting rejected for no clear reason.

Here are some facts related to her situation:
-22 years old, currently enrolled in university
-Comes from a stratus 6 neighborhood
-Employed by her family company
-Has property in her name (through a family trust setup - I'm not sure on the specifics)

Basically she meets all of the criteria that *I* (not an expert) think would be viewed favorably by the embassy.

Now that she'll be applying again for a third time, can any of you guys provide any guidance in this area? Common mistakes or pitfalls that may be getting her application red flagged?

I can see why she was rejected.

Red flags:

1. She is YOUNG, chances of staying and meeting a gringo to stay (this is you) are exponentially higher than a 35 year old with kids.

2. She works for her "family business" -- yeah, what Colombian doesn't.

3. She was already denied, and keeps applying quickly. This shows desperation and need.

Property on her name means dick, she needs to show 50,000USD in cold hard cash in a Colombian bank account, and she's in - because she is that young.

4. It's a lottery man. I've seen legit medical doctors get rejected tourist visas, and I have seen broke taxi drivers who don't have shit get approved. Go figure.

This why we fuck so easily in Colombia, because getting visas is hard for them, and the only guaranteed track into America is guys like you who take them on vacations to San Andres, and now, want to fly them to America....wwwhhhyyyyyyy????

2. I wasn't aware that this was a common phenomenon in Colombia. I guess that washes out any possible advantage.

3. Four months is too soon?

4. That's whack. I guess there's no way to ensure an advantage.

Also, come on man.. don't be so quick to assume I'm that gringo paying for a Colombian girl's vacations and shit! For the record, she paid her own way to San Andres, and she'll be paying her own way into Miami as well. I pay for drinks when we go out and sometimes food.. that's my style with anyone I'm seeing that I give two shits about, but nothing more.

Yup. she would wait at lest 1 year between re-applying to make it look like she has no need to come N. America, and it really is just tourism to "Disney World".

Don't feel bad man, it's the stigma that goes with being an American dating local girls in Colombia, and going on vacations in San Andres. What you described is the exact cookie-cut mold of how a typical American/Anglo-Colombain relationship develops. Get used to it if you plan on continuing to see her. Just the way it is.

However, I don't blame you, nobody is more addicted to Colombian women on this forum than me. I've been traveling to Colombia doing what you've just done with your girl for the past 15 years, and with several hundred of them by now. I was even going to marry one, and went through ALMOST the whole K1 FIANCE VISA PROCESS!! Ha!

Yes, the one I was going to marry was an LTR, I posted her story somewhere on this forum, dig through the archives and you'll find it.

No, I don't own a 300z (never have). ??? I know a few cats that do own a 300z, 350z, and 370z/GTR; it's a pretty popular whip nowadays. I'm a street Porsche kinda guy.
