What exactly is (in Chateau's words) reframing?
Is it just shifting the teasing or "shit test" onto the woman rather than allowing the woman to shit test you?

Reframing is telling a story from a different perspective. Spinning something from negative to positive. You have your vision of the world and she has hers. It's persuading her to your way of thinking.

Its seriously a powerful tool and sometimes required when a women doesn't seem to be meshing with you very well.

Don't give them what they expect, and you'll get from them what you never expected.

It is kind of marketing speech when you say "this is a status item" instead of "no sane person would pay this kind of price for this piece of shit".

RE: What exactly is (in Chateau's words) reframing?
Reframing is this:

Have u ever seen a politician get interviewed?

Interviewer: Senator, since you've taken office high school dropout rates have increased 100%. How do you respond?
Senator: Yes, education is important. Many things are important. For example, job creation is also important. Look how many jobs I created since taken office - unemployment has dropped from 12% to 8%.

Pretty much barely acknowledging or ignoring the original question/statement and & talking about what YOU want to talk about, i.e. 'controlling the frame.'

This is not reframing. He didn't acknowledge a stated fact in a positive way, he just ignored the question altogether (which, in this case, was fair).

Now if he said, 100%? that's great! the less educated people are around, the higher the value of people like us who are educated - that would be reframing.

HiLo gets it.

Reframing just means "changing the subject of the conversation".

The way people talk on this forum can be pretty annoying at times, because people do it alllll the time.

RE: What exactly is (in Chateau's words) reframing?
The easiest way to explain reframing is to imagine a woman seeing your side when there's no way she would have before (it is NOT changing the subject of the conversation)...

Something that makes her say (or more importantly, think):

"I never thought of it that way."
"Hmm, interesting."
"Well when you put it like that..."

Then you know you're in.

It means to basically get her to accept your view through careful persuasion and choice of words... or humor. It's taking the bull by the horns... and then making the bull fall for you.

Would you cite any reference to support your opinion? It is a pretty common term.

RE: What exactly is (in Chateau's words) reframing?
I stand by my original claim. By "subject", I mean subject in the widest sense possible.

The wiki article from OldNem has a good sentence on this:

Quote:Another meaning or another sense is assigned by reframing a situation or context, thus sees a situation in another frame.

So, for example, let's examine some shit tests.

Girl: "You're kinda short..."
You: "And your nose is kinda big..."

In this case, the reframe went from the topic of your shortness being an issue to her nose being an equal if not greater issue.

Girl: "I need to find my friends!"
You: "Are you close with your friends?"
Girl: "Yes."
You: "Then why would they ever ditch you?"
Girl: "Good point..."
You: "Stop worrying that shit..."

In this case, you've changed the topic of her being alone with you to challenging if her friends have any loyalty to her.

Here's an alternate version of the same conversation:

Girl: "I need to find my friends!"
You: "Are you close with your friends?"
Girl: "Not really..."
You: "Then what are you worried for? I'm more fun than your friends are anyways."

The reframe here goes from her needing her friends to her needing me.

(On the phone)
Girl: "I don't want to have sex with you anymore, but can we still be friends?"
You: "Hmm, I need to think about that."
Girl: "You need to think about it?"
You: "Yeah, let me get back to you on that."
(Hang up)

Although she wanted to dump you, you change the subject to whether or not you validate her and leave her hanging.

(at a party)
Girl: "I can't believe you don't remember me!"
You: "Uh... is that bad?"
Girl: "Oh, it's really bad."
You: "Just how bad?"
Girl: "Bad."
You: "Uhm... I don't care." (Turn to a different group of people) "Hey, have you guys ever played Mario Party 9?"
Girl: "What's Mario Party 9?"

This is a simple blow-off, but it is a reframe nonetheless. Instead of letting her label you as a bad person, you dismiss her because of it's trivial nature. So what if you can't remember her? You meet hundreds of people each week, how can you expect to remember them all?

The girl then asks you what Mario Party 9 is in order to win back your attention.

Reframing is a subtle, manipulative process that took me a few years to improve at. It is changing the subject of the conservation in order to gain power and control of the conversation.

Politicians, players, and philosophers are masters of reframing.

Framing is not just about conversation. Framing is also about controlling the non-verbal context.

Framing is at the essence of all parts in game. Not only do you have to control the conversation, you have to control the way she sees you (social value, body language, etc.)

You have to live the frame, not just talk it.

RE: What exactly is (in Chateau's words) reframing?
Samseau, you missed the point.
HiFlo provided an example which clearly changes the subject, and basically created a strawman. This isn't reframing, and it is not very useful in ordinary discussions. Read his post again, would you answer a question like that in a regular conversation? This is the "sleazy politician" kind of answer, which is one of the reasons why people hate those politicians.

Now with your examples to come with this kind of answer would be like that:

(On the phone)
Girl: "I don't want to have sex with you anymore, but can we still be friends?"
You: "Friendship is very important. Psychologists say the people who have more friends live happier. I have studied psychology in the university, and my grades were really good. And people with good grades tend to be better in business just like I do!"

This would be very similar to the example above. But would you say it is a good, or even acceptable answer? Would you call it reframing? I'd call it retarding.

As Wiki says, reframing is basically reinterpreting what she said so it has a different meaning. For example, she said you're not her type (with the context behind it that "I'm too good for you"), and you reply back with "I got it, you prefer low-quality guys" (which makes it look like you interpreted the context behind it as completely opposite - i.e. she meant "you are too good for me"). Basically it is reframing if the phrase has an obvious context behind it which is different from the phrase, and your reply is based on a different context, while staying on the same subject. For example, answering "no you aren't" or "you're fat anyway" is not reframing because your reply is not based on a different context.

Reframing is a well-known concept in marketing and business negotiations, a typical example is "your item costs twice more than your competitor's one" (the context is "you're charging too much") with a typical reply "because it costs money to build quality" (with the context "our competitors sell low quality stuff").

In the essence it is doublespeak, you're communicating the things you cannot say openly because of some reason (typically social constructs).

this thread has officially taken a turn for the worse. arguing about nuanced subtleties of semantics has gotten no one anywhere.

Glass half full/half empty? (the way you look at it)

Girl: Oh my god my BF cheated on me. we talked about getting married. I am so sad!
You: well think of this way, what if he cheated on you after the marriage? I know it's sad but you shouldn't let yourself down blah blah.

Yep, glass half full/half empty is a classic reframing. Thank you Sebastian.
