RE: Gillette releases new toxic masculinity commercial: "The Best Men Can Be"
620K downvotes vs. 220k likes, pretty impressive.

Gilette as "we're the authority of masculinity" has been largely rejected from men according to the numbers. Displaying feminine behavior to appeal to men will be largely rejected by them... Ha! Marketing execs at Gilette are sooo dumb. Not really, I have to believe that the goal of this ad was not to appeal to men but merely to create a buzz and appeal to women. Hence, the #3 Trending on Youtube, 10M+ views and the 200k likes (mostly women I suspect).

Also, I believe most of people who are disgusted by this video are not Gilette customers to begin with. I don't expect to see this ad after the Sunday football game anytime soon. The current Gilette customer between 30-55 yo will probably never see this ad. I was curious so I went to check Gilette's website to see why Gilette wanted us to watch this video. Here's the answer;

Quote: Wednesday, November 29, 2017 8:30 am EST BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Gillette today unveiled a new approach to delivering the grooming solutions men and women want. Beginning in January, Gillette will launch its most comprehensive innovation bundle ever, with eight outstanding grooming solutions to delight consumers across a wide range of price points.

Quote:The new offerings were developed by Gillette scientists who studied consumers’ habits and practices SNIP. The new solutions zero in on several high interest areas such as: the 40 million U.S. men who prefer disposable razors, and the nearly 50% of women who remove facial hair .

On one hand, you have 40 million men who prefer disposable razors. Low-margin product. On the other hand, you have 50% of all US women population who remove their facial hair; let alone hair in other places. Here are some of the latest innovations from Gilette;

For Men:

Quote:New Gillette Sensor3 Cool, disposable razors with Cooling Technology: SRP: $4.99 - $6.99

Quote:New Gillette3 and Gillette5 razors: SRP: $7.99-$9.99

Quote:Improved Gillette Fusion5™ and Gillette MACH3® cartridges: SRP: $9.99 for MACH3 and $14.99 for Fusion 4-pack of cartridges

Most of these product are low-margin and face a huge competition. Also, shaving is not popular among men anymore...

Quote:Gillette® Launches SkinGuard A Razor Clinically Proven for Sensitive Skin

For teenage guys with acne.

For women:

Quote:New Venus Face Perfection: nearly 50% of women who remove facial hair. SRP: $34.99

Quote:New Venus Bikini Precision:SRP $19.99 For the two out of three women who remove bikini hair, Venus is providing a convenient, new solution for the bikini area.

Quote:New Venus Platinum: SRP: Responding to the 40% of women who want a more durable razor handle, this refillable razor brings a new sense of luxury $8.99 for a razor and cartridge.

Luxury for only 8.99$ ladies...

Quote:12/7/18 10:12 am EST-- Gillette Venus Teams Up with YouTube Star Remi Cruz for Limited-Edition Razor

The razor market is saturated for men, this ad is dedicated to women. They successfully created a buzz by displaying men featuring feminine behaviors to appeal to women. They did this knowing that most men will be disgusted by this video and react... Many kids growing up watching this video will be brainwashed and aspire to become like one of those dickless men displayed on this video. Brilliant marketing, disgusting propaganda.

< Nah - I think that they overblew it. They thought that the NPC males were more brainwashed than they were similar to how they predicted a 95% win of Hillary over Trump.

Companies and and marketing companies are not some kind of super-human beings who have a perfect track record. They do things wrong all the time. And this is really easy for them when they are surrounded by libtards in their professional and private life. The conservatives among them don't voice their opinions for fear of being fired like that Google guy. So of course you get an army of yes men and Soviet Aparatschniks that tell you that the 5-year-plan will work perfectly. And then when the shit is not gobbled up by the people, then they blame the "Alt-Right-Misogynists" and trolls from Russia.

It was a giant blunder and nothing else. That brand manager above will get fired for it regardless whether it was signed off. Most of the market may not see it, but millions of men will never buy a Gillette razor again.

Gillette's brand manager isn't going anywhere. This backlash proves, in their mind, that more work still needs to be done. That's how progressives think.

I'm not so sure about that. In a few months this ad will be a distant memory. There will be a few people who follow through on the boycott. But for most people who found this ad distateful and said they will never again buy Gillette, they won't follow through on it, since boycotts on goods never last very long. People have very short memories. If anthing, this ad will improve sales, since the brand name Gillette has had so much exposure that it's left a subliminal imprint on people's minds, and they will unconsciously reach for the brand name that is most familiar to them. If that's the case, this was a genius marketing strategy.

This video is just one in a series, as stated in the AP article: https://www.apnews.com/752f3d102a8142d98106ceb22139200b

Quote:Pankaj Bhalla, North America brand director on Gillette says the controversy was not the intended goal of the ad, which is part of a larger campaign that takes a look at redefining Gillette’s longtime tagline “The Best a Man Can Get,” in different ways. Another online ad features one-handed NFL rookie Shaquem Griffin.

Hard to tell if they will be more of the same or aim for different themes. I'm thinking it's going to be the later.

RE: Gillette releases new toxic masculinity commercial: "The Best Men Can Be"
I had totally forgotten that Shaqueim Griffin ad was also Gillette (he is an American football player who was drafted in the NFL last year despite having had one of his hands amputated at age 3 or 4). That's actually a really good one, shows positive examples of masculinity in terms of hard work paying off, fatherhood and brotherhood, overcoming obstacles instead of playing the victim, even shows his father teaching him how to shave one handed. There's also some back story there in that Griffin's twin brother, who has both hands, was offered a scholarship to play at his dream school (University of Miami) and turned it down to play at a lower level school which offered both brothers.

This ad also came out around the same time as the Kaepernick Nike ad and I had pointed it out to a few people as a more positive alternative showcasing a player who actually did overcome obstacles. Shame Gillette blew it with this new crap.

(Just realized that's the full 2:30 ad and I've only seen the 30 second TV version, apologies in advance if there's some leftist faggotry they snuck in the extended version)

I got my Magnum condoms, I got my wad of hundreds, I'm ready to plow!

I'm really shocked that so little attention has been given to the little troll who's running Gillette North America for P&G: Pankaj Bhalla
https://www.linkedin.com/in/pankaj-bhalla-68b70917

That they would select a guy who's majority of life experience was in India - didn't even go to college here or business school - to run a brand that caters 80% to white and black men is insane.

The funny thing is, because men aren't SJWs, if Gillette just said they made a mistake and apologized for trashing men, most would let it go.

Gillette won't do that of course.

They haven't even addressed any of this in their Twitter feed.

Their last Tweet:

These corporate executives and ad agencies just seem to think "Controversy Creates Cash", no matter what it is. It's based on an old Pro-Wrestling premise, to just get a reaction, no matter whether it's positive or negative. The worst thing you can do in the entertainment business is to be ignored or make people indifferent. When you can't get a positive reaction, getting someone to hate you is often just as beneficial and controversial. At least they won't forget about you.

These execs at Gillette & P&G are happily sacrificing profits just to be talked about on social media, to get noticed again, and "start a conversation". Here is what they think will happen to them....

Razor burn: Gillette ad stirs online uproar
https://www.apnews.com/752f3d102a8142d98106ceb22139200b

Allen Adamson, co-founder of branding firm Metaforce, called the ad a “hail Mary” pass from the 117-year-old company. But he added that online buzz, whether positive or negative, rarely makes a long-term difference for a marketer since memory fades quickly.

“Getting noticed and getting buzz is no easy task, and they’ve managed to break through,” Adamson said. “Most advertisers advertise, and no one notices because there is so much noise in the marketplace, so just getting noticed Is a big win, especially for low-interest category like a razor.”

On the flip side, it probably won’t sell many razors either, he said.

These companies and their Ad agencies have basically become like the post-wall women, dying their hair pink, wearing crazy outfits and uggifying themselves with garish tattoos, just hoping to be noticed again by this new generation of men.

I agree with this. But Gillette is only part of the problem. The company is serving as the messenger for a bunch of anti-male "concepts" cooked up in college Women's Studies department without an iota of science behind them (or an understanding of biology).

For decades, feminists have been trying to get their man-hating ideas into the mainstream through every venue possible: TV, movies, newspapers (of course!), mags, and now ads.

So, it might soon be forgotten that Gillette made a mistake in creating this ad. But what won't be forgotten is the collective "FUCK YOU" than both men and women in the U.S. gave to Gillette when they tried to take "toxic feminism" mainstream.

Maybe they could have pulled this off in 1989 or 1999. But with decades of people communicating online, this doesn't wash anymore.

All of that won't be forgotten by the public, the marketing "geniuses," the cowed feminists, the boards of directors, and the people who make decisions. No company wants even a day of bad publicity. They'll think twice before allowing feminists and their male lackeys the power to make marketing decisions and "re-brand" a company.

When you look at this one from 1989, the contrast from 30 years ago until now is stark. This commercial was highlighting the true strength and positivity of men and masculinity. What the fuck happened? It's good that science can't resurrect anyone. They'd dig up John Wayne and make him a huge fag just to rub it in our faces.

Brilliant. I agree with you and PJW that it's free advertising via virtue signaling. A new tactic for the desperate and antiquated to get noticed in both business and politics. But there's definitely an agenda at play here as well.

"White men are toxic and evil and must die out! Oh and buy our razors, or something."

I appreciate a well-crafted message enough where I think I would be able to, on some level, appreciate a well-constructed piece of propaganda that also sells razors. This is just virtue signaling that isn't even trying to be clever or coy.

At least TRY, you retards.

< The boomers as Gilette also would have lost the old most popular comment of: "My wife's boyfriend loved it!"

Brands are not immutable objects. I agree that long-term it won't tank a company like P&G or a even a brand like Gillette. But brands do get destroyed or marred. Even the marketing exec there said that it won't sell them any razors. Disney SJW destroyed the Star Wars franchise - at least it heavily decreased the profit potential by some 50% already - maybe even destroying the long-term potential. But sure -consumer goods are not movie franchises.

Still - get woke, go broke is not an unfounded statement. Stalinist marketing of telling you to like Captain Marvel and Rose Tico - that won't work.

Shitting in your face and telling you to keep on buying your razors - that won't work either. Just as it won't work to tell women to like Beta-soy-cuck men. They will viscerally cringe in disgust regardless despite a lifetime of feminazi programming.

The ad is just end-stage Roman or end-stage communist propaganda. Lap it up while you can you cucks - the next war, global economic crisis or social collapse will have that manager's head on pike and the women embracing the "most toxic" males just for survival.

I'm no marketing expert but this commercial looks like it's aimed at building a brand presence in the mind of women rather than being an effort to undermine masculinity. The controversy will soon blow over, everyone will soon forget about this commercial however there will be a subtle reinforcement of the Gillette brand in the mind of many potential female customers.

I preferred the approach that Gillette took a few years ago when they released that Vibrance razor for women, the one with the built in vibrator in the handle Smile

PJW on twitter also theorized a kind of, no publicity is bad publicity, swing on it. The video like it or not has reached 6mil+ views and many more people in general, creating some mental real estate in each said person. So the outrage clicks have ended up generating a bunch of free publicity for the brand, bad or good, the mindless drones will still buy through pure presence in mind. Just like Nike and Kaepernick, it will blow over as you say, and then they do just fine.

Could be wrong, but was a decent other side of the coin take on it.

RE: Gillette releases new toxic masculinity commercial: "The Best Men Can Be"

Perhaps. And if there truly is something meaningful in the water, this is only the very earliest stage of anything which could spark a decisive pushback. People suspect that something is up, but it remains to be seen if they build on this suspicion to effect anything of consequence, or if they retreat back into a cozy world of emasculated defeatism. It's the difference between men who have learned to firmly dismiss female hysterics, and men who find themselves broken after years of acquiescing to the irrational whims of the women in their lives. On the larger scale, men in the West have chosen the latter approach in response to feminism, resulting in an ever deafining and baffling crescendo of irrational hysteria.

I remember that as a younger man, my early relationships with women were impossible to understand. They always started well, but within a short amount of time they descended into conflict. Out of the blue, I would be berated with complaints that made no rational sense. And I would always calm down the situation by apologising, even if I wasn't entirely sure what I was apologising for. If I tried to rationally explain that the complaints were unfair, I would face a torrent of even more irrational abuse. It never ended well and I thought something was wrong with me.

The turning point was a situation with a girl with whom I'd been in a relationship for a few months. As expected, she hurled abuse at me, but I was too tired to care. I told her that I would drive her home and we should stop seeing each other. We were done. Extremely out of character for me at the time. Within a five minutes, she went from a venomous mess of enraged tears, to gently laying her head on my shoulder, submissively stroking my chin, and telling me that she was sorry. It seemed so counter-intuative, since I assumed that caving to a woman's demands and promising to abide by everything she demanded would gain her respect - the happy wife happy life principle. It turns out that women respect men who are steadfast in their beliefs and put their foot down at the first signs of emotionally driven hysteria.

And on a larger scale, this is what is needed. #TimesUpLadies

This whole movement we're seeing a test, where women are probing for the weaknesses of men. It's something that is evolutionarily hardwired into their brain. This is a good thing in terms of natural selection, since they are probing to choose the strongest men, the men who aren't inclined to melt in response to their incoherant demands.

I'm calling it here. At least one Western country will repeal the right of women to vote within 20 years. Watch this space.

People will definitely forget about this.

Remember how the media outrage cycle works, it looks for the next best thing.

Most normal guys I know got a chuckle about how foolish this ad was.

This ad is only for the people on the left, it's just another feel good virtue signaling ad.

Obviously we know what the agenda behind this is, we know what they're trying to push, and we know the people behind this propaganda.

My first reaction was a smirk, followed by a smile, followed by a shrug.

Question is, how do you stop a multi billion corporation from pushing out this kind of propaganda?

Sure boycotts, but honestly, it's not THAT hard to avoid products by these companies.

Buy locally sourced, buy from local shops, buy off brand, eat simple and clean, avoid all processed foods, use cleaning products with natural ingredients (look on the bottle to find out who makes it and where).

I can pretty much say I avoid all major corpos when it come to products I buy - then again I could give a shit less about a boycott to begin with.

Damien said it best - this is controversy for cash - that way this brand is talked about.

I honestly think the people who will go out and buy the blades because of this ad will wash out the people who drop these blades.

At least for a few months, before people move onto the next controversy.

People can choose their blades, I have a beard, I don't even touch my face, a buddy Barber of mine will clean me up ever so often.

Fortunately Proctor & Gamble and similar corporations doesn`t own meat, fish, vegetables, nuts and seeds etc. It`s actually very easy to avoid buying any of the commercial brands. You certainly don`t need their crappy flour, hydrogenated oils and HFCS laden foods!

As for toiletries and stuff like that, I suggest you follow Roosh`s no shampoo and deodorant advice. (use bicarb as a substitute.) Works like a charm, much better hair and scalp after 3 years of no shampoo. I just shower daily with warm water and Aloe Vera added soap. (not for my hair) I buy toothpaste, tooth brushes, shaving foam, razors and so on from Turkish migrant shops. They usually have some obscure brands that are definitely not SJW affected. I doubt I use more than $50 a year on these types of items. So there`s no need for any of these brands in your life.

We will stomp to the top with the wind in our teeth.
