Anyone feel like summarizing? I've spent 5 months in Thailand total so I am curious to see what the video says, but not curious enough to spend 45 minutes watching it.

I've seen this, albeit a long time ago. It's reasonably well made - MUCH better than most of the sensationalized shit that comes out of popular media in England (and to some extent the US) decrying the prostitution migrants/scene in Thailand.

If you are brand new to the country, and know nothing about the history or details of Western-Thai prostitution, this would bring you up to speed.

I saw it a while ago. I highly recommend you give it a shot whenever you have the time, it really is a good watch.

Summary: The documentary mainly follows a couple of Thai ladies, both young (the first one, "Fon", is 21) single moms. One is sort of a 'kept' bargirl (she's got a foreign "sponsor" she's trying to cultivate), the other a village girl who tries to reach foreigners online with some help. The doc details the challenges and struggles they and others like them face in trying to find a foreign husband, which is the ultimate end game for all of them.

The documentary makes clear that the value of a foreign husband can't be overstated in Thailand among Thai women who are not well-to-do or upper middle class (read: most of them). They're romanticized on television and in song, and the girls see clearly the value they bring in the villages. Lots of foreigners have married, settled, and built nice homes in these towns (skip to 5:00 to see them), and all the other girls obviously want to live and raise families in them.

Basically, the foreigners are in extremely high demand because they can provide a great lifestyle than these girls cannot otherwise access. Just about any foreigner can pull this off-the cost of living is low enough in Thailand (even after decades of tourist onslaught) that a 50-something westerner with even a basic $20-30k annual pension can build a nice house in a village, start a family and live pretty well.
In the case of the single mothers this video follows, access to that lifestyle is particularly important because they want their kids to grow up well. The men are out of the picture, and many of the girls themselves grew up with Thai stepdads and do not want their kids to go through that experience.

Bottomline: Even socio-economically average Westerners have a lot of options in Thailand romantically with young Thai women, much younger than they'd have access to in the west. If you are such a westerner, Thailand is a good place to be and you should probably consider a trip at some point. You'd need to be a multi-millionaire in the USA to enjoy the type of sexual access these guys have out there, with 20-25 year old girls literally fighting over them.

I watched 15 minutes. What I got out of it is that Thai hookers are probably better wives than American girls and they target guys in my age group.

Its a great read, funny too. One of my travel buddy's gave the paperback book to me and i have read it twice so far.

I advise anyone who's going to Thailand (or any other South East Asian country) to read this book, it will make you laugh and more important it will save you money, knowing all the scams the girls are gonna pull on you.

I kind of feel like most girls here in Thailand who would want to marry a westerner for money/economic reasons really arent the kinds of girls I wanna be around, especially longterm. Just too uneducated, emotional issues, needy etc, just cant relate to them. I mean these are girls straight off the farm / out of the villages, pretty much.

The coolest girls I've met here have had good jobs - managers, accountants, marketing - and were mainly happy to pay their own way for things. Even though they still earn a lot less than us I dont get the vibe from educated girls that they're after a western guy for money/marriage. Im not sure though, maybe that is a factor for them and they're playing a longer-term game?

In my experience educated Thai girls are paranoid about being seen with a foreigner due to the damage it can cause their social status, as the rule of thumb in Thailand is generally Thai girl + farang = hooker.
Have you met many girls otherwise? As you say though they might have a long haul agenda, but thats a risk I suppose you assume with any Thai girl...

It;s only the real HiSo ones that are averse to being with farangs. Plenty of middle class girls are very into it.

A good chunk of the girls I've been with here have been educated with decent jobs. There's tons of info on pulling normal girls in the Thailand threads- check out The Bangkok nightlife stuff and "How to meet non-pros in Bangkok". In the right clubs (RCA, khaoSan, Bed, others) they are very receptive. And also daygame from what I hear, but havent really tried it yet. You see a fair amount of white guys with apparently normal, nice thai girlfriends...it's very doable.

Yeah I saw the documentary. These girls are fugly. I wouldn't pay these girls for sex, let alone think about marrying them. And they have these really irritating high pitched voices and absolutely ZERO sophistication.

I would be embarassed to introduce a girl like this to my family and friends as a potential girlfriend or wife. They will think I have lost my mind.

A mix of both, of course.

On one hand, there are plenty of dregs flying over who honestly just aren't attractive and cannot pull in the west for that reason-this is true. At the same time, I find that there are just as many guys who have had some sexual success in the west (longterm GFs, hookups, etc) and still prefer to travel.

It makes sense, really. When you actually think about it, the west isn't a particularly easy place to do that well for the average guy. Ratios are bad, as this excellent blog details, and the entire culture in a place like the USA is just not quite as friendly to guys from a sexual viewpoint as many others (the shaming language, the punitive family law, not-so-equalist-feminism, etc, we all know the story).

As mentioned before in here, an average western dude over in Thailand can easily, at 45 years of age and with an income not much more than $25-30k annually, pull a 20-25 year old for an LTR or several such females for a number of more casual relationships.

How many American or other western men do you know that can regularly pull this off? Unless you're a celebrity, it probably isn't happening. We can go on and on about the value of game, but even a fairly competent 35-45 year old player in a major American city is going to have a tough time regularly pulling 20-25 year old chicks, much less fit and attractive ones. A few very well polished and affluent players will do ok, but not without a lot of skill and capital. In Thailand (among many other nations), such women will fight over him for relatively little effort on his part. An return on investment like that is tough to turn down.

Taking all of this into account alongide the potential for many of these guys to just prefer the look of certain women overseas (the near total lack of obesity helps) and you can see why even a dude with some options might consider making the trip. Even if you aren't a loser, a place like this can have a lot to offer you. ROI's this high are just tough to ignore.

Some guys prefer petite women-nothing wrong with that so long as they are legal. Others are just happy to be in the company of fewer plump women, the kind that is all too common throughout the west.

Honestly, if many of those women were plucked out of that dude's arms and placed on my campus, they'd easily be among the 2-3 hottest Asian girls at the school. For any guy coming out of an environment like that (where women are either scarce due to bad ratios, somewhat plain as a whole, or both), these girls would be good catches. Quite a few (possibly most) western guys come out of environments like that.

My question- are foreign men in demand only because of the $ that they bring, or are they actually attracted to them? How many of them will keep Thai boyfriends on the side.

Most documentaries, books and articles about Thailand and it's women are written based on what is seen with old sex tourists and Thai prostitutes. It gives Thai women a bad rap, as well as people who travel here who are not old sex tourists searching for hookers.

Celtic, foreign men are in demand to varying degrees depending on the social class of the Thai girl. Lower class will want you for sure for your money. They may be attracted to you, and even love you, but your money is no doubt a factor. These girls need someone to take care of them and their families. Getting a white husband with even a little bit of money is seen as a huge jump in status in her community, as well as her and her families quality of life. Some of the ones who marry older guys do have Thai boyfriends on the side, some don't. Some make great wives, some don't. Just depends. However, there is a difference between getting a bar girl as a wife, or getting a poor girl as a wife. They are not always one and the same.

Middle class and upper middle class girls might want you for your money, but not like a poor village girl. I've hooked up with Thai girls who have picked me up in their cars which were brand new. For me, as a 27 year old, I didn't really represent much of an upgrade in their lifestyle at this point in my life. If I was 35-40 and loaded this may be different, but for me they hook up with me because I am young, white and handsome. I never buy them shit and many of them even offer to split the bill when we go out. You can meet lots of good girls in this category who don't want your money, they just like you and want to have a good time.

HiSo (upper class) Thai girls will NOT want you for your money, because they are fucking loaded. These girls will have a BMW or Mercedes and if they like you it is because of you. However, they will be harder to get at. It can look bad on them to be with a white guy to their social circle. Some HiSo girls like white guys and always go after them, but it is my understanding that most HiSo girls prefer other HiSo Thai guys. Also, most of us younger white guys are not going to have the kind of money these Thai HiSo kids have. Kind of like a middle class guy from back home hooking up with the rich daughter of a Hollywood producer. Going to be much tougher.

Based on my experience in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, I would say Cambodians are the hottest.
