Alberto, the blazer and jeans combo is the right choice for your age if you want to stand out. Shoe wise, try something like Desert Boots or Bucks.

I'm roughly the same age and yes, I suit up everyday.. for work though but I personally wouldn't do it otherwise.

22 might be a little too young to sport a suit everyday. You can still rock the trendy club clothes style.
Dress trendy but for your age. You should be banging all the hot high school girls at 22 in my opinion.

Save the suit til you get to about 30 or more.

I wore a suit every day from 23 but it was for work. If you are going to school still, I think it would be hard to pull off without looking silly. I agree it looks better and everyone should do it like it is 1932 but you have to make some concessions to the time unless you want to be seen as an eccentric.

Same here. Also the one on the right.

Anyone know where can I get a blue jacket like that ?

Seems like in really cold weathers that would be a killer style.

RE: Suiting up on daily basis at 22
I've been suitiing up for the past couple weeks now. The pants are too long for me, I'm only 5'7, about an inch too long. Even though I'm short, my arms are longer than the average dude of my height. I wear 36 Regular, most of my jackets are couple inches too long, but the sleeves are perfect. I'm thinking of getting my jackets shortened from a nearby dry cleaner, but then again, why risk it? They might totally mess up the balance and leave with a jacket that I won't be wearing again. At least 4 suit jackets I have needs work, hell I can buy 2 cheap suits from H&M for that.

Bro you are 22 the only suit you need is a beach body + wife beater.

Worry about suits when you can no longer run life of the party game

I know what you're saying, lots of young girls get turned off by it but I only wear it to get the proper 9-5 feeling and I never wear a tie. All my classes are 9-5, and the course I'm doing is a professional finance course.

What? No professional finance grind is 9-5? You're training to be a sheeple? (Serious question) no reason to wear a suit at school.

RE: Suiting up on daily basis at 22
WC - My dad fired that exact question when I switched from Medicine to Finance.

Alberto - I knew a Brazilian engineer that went suited down everyday with a briefcase, it was his niche and he pulled tail, though he dressed the part. My dad emphasised dressing the part too, I had a closet with mostly custom stuff. Since most young North Americans have no dress sense, I stood out and couldn't pull like the other kid. I looked like I was 25 at age 18, some bars didn't ID me because of that.

In college, appearing groomed and wearing fitted clothes is more than enough. If you want to step it up, get a leather blazer. It can add class to button down with slacks or you can rock it on jeans with a beater. For work, one custom suit is enough, spend on a few tailored slacks and shirts - I knew a 25 year old banker with a closet of suits like Bateman, excessive. You'll need to suit down in your late 20s, it's overkill at this time.

RE: Suiting up on daily basis at 22
The age is not the question. The question is the money/utility. Are you tastes stable? Doubtful. Is it worth the extra expense at this point in your life? Unlikely.

If you want up your looks, take it up in small steps. Try this.

1) No more T-shirts. Switch to V-neck. The angled v-neck line frames your face and add length to your upper body. Don't get excessively deep or very short. V-neck will run you a pack of 3 for 13 dollars, or at max (pima/egyptian butter soft cotton) for 20 dollars for 1.

2) Step 1 alone should yield great dividends. Next try a bunch of dress-shirts. I recommend cotton-poly wrinkle-free blends to start with. Its a lot easier for a younger kid. Hell, I still have a few of these that I absolutely love. The saying is "buy for quality to last you a lifetime", but I think in youth this is a terrible paradigm. You are going to buy and try lots of different fabrics, cut, and colors. This is inevitable to improve your fashion IQ. I recommend not spending more than 40-50 dollars/shirt. I had Van Huesen and Perry Ellis (around 30-35 dollars/dress shirt) for a while when going through school. Looks decent, fabric is mediocre, but it did the job for 2-3 years. Consider this a down-payment and learning period to learn what cuts and colors work best for you.

3) Buy 1-2 jackets and 1 suit. Sounds like you have the suit covered. The jackets I would buy is a navy blue blazer and a dark-military jacket w/ those shoulder straps (exact name escapes me). These dark jacket work very well w/dark jeans, gray pants, tan/khaki pants. The military jacket will frame your figure and add width because of the pockets/shoulder straps.

[Image: Banana%20Republic%20Tri-Blend%20Military...Jacket.jpg]

Another nice jacket to have is a grey blazer or jacket.

3) Invest in some slacks. Don't go for high-end wool pants or what not. Just some different colored slacks. Calvin Klein has some, Perry Ellis/Van Huesen, or if you are really hurting Marshalls. The work-horse pants will be jeans, soild gray slacks/corduroys, solid light tan slacks (no corduroys, tan corduroys look too farmer-ish to me).

4) Shoes- 3-4 pair of shoes youll need. Oxblood, black, suede/tan, and flash. Considering your age, fashionable sneakers will do. Creative Recreations are a good bet- you can also buy them on amazon for heavy discounts.

Here are some thoughts...
[Image: pencils-of-promise-creative-recreation-c...-lo-02.jpg]

[Image: creative-recreation-liggio-shoes-0.jpg?w=450]

[Image: creative-recreation-cesario-lo-skate-sho...1500.3.jpg]

When you get more comfortable w/all of this, you can start playing w/the individual aspects, red-shoe laces on black shoes (red v-neck, blue jeans, black shoes w/red laces). Blue shoe laces on black shoes (white v-neck, blue jeans, navy blazer). Bring some swag into your appearance.

In recapitulation, this should give you a steady wardrobe for your age and the girls you will encounter. Just mix and match, and youll likely be set. When cash flow improves, then you can start worrying about suits and the such.

WIA- For most of men, our time being masters of our own fate, kings in our own castles is short. Even those of us in the game will eventually succumb to ease of servitude rather than deal with the malaise of solitude

^^ have to disagree with Dvy.

1. Not all men should wear v-necks only
In shape (closer than not to golden ratio).
2. He is wasting cash on suits. LmaoZ if you show up in a custom suit to a real job even on Wall Street I will throw a mouse at you and ask why you think you're Gordon gekko
3. Why is he training to be a sheep? That shit doesn't work if you want to be rich.
4. When you are new you want to come off as humble and quiet willing to learn, not as "I already know I'm a g so get out of my way" you'll be shown the door in a heart beat. Always play "dead" when you want information, if someone is going to give you advice you act quiet + beta and suck it all in. No one wants to help a young guy who thinks he knows it all, play dead to get the info you need.

Dude, chalk stripe is for a ***MUCH*** older man! You won't come off looking sophisticated, debonair, or wise beyond your years. You'll come off looking like a pretender, a wanna-be, a douche.

In general, while i'm a huge fan of suits and the impact it has on women, I think that at 22, you need to be careful how you play this. That is, you need to make this look AUTHENTIC. Since most offices are casual these days, girls will ask you (or a guy will ask, in front of the girls!) "Why are you wearing a suit". You'll come off douchey if you just say "Well, you know, I, uh, work in a casual office, but I think I should always dress a little better than everyone else". WRONG ANSWER! The best way to play this is to say "Oh, we had an important client meeting today so I needed to dress up". But you can't play that every-day; 2-3 days a week at most. On the other days, wear something that shows STYLE. Mix it up. Show them you're not just a one-dimensional drone. Of course, if you're a lawyer or a Big 4 CPA or otherwise work in an office that DOES wear a suit everyday, then that's your answer. But if ALL of your colleagues and friends are in khakis and golf shirts, and you come rockin' a suit, just be aware that people will imagine a scarlet "D" on your forehead, and this will be a handicap you'll have to overcome.

Follow-up to my last post: Don't even think about wearing French cuffs and cufflinks with your suit at 22, unless you want them to think you're not just a douche, but the King of Douches. At 29, you can wear them occasionally. In your 30's, you can wear them everyday. At 22...um, no.

I wouldn't worry about that. At 22, Alberto isn't looking for the future Mrs. Alberto. He's looking to get laid! Yes, they will find out you are penniless, but as long as they don't figure that out until AFTER you score, who cares?? You can keep up the façade for a few weeks.

I think a bigger risk is that your blanket assumption "Women will find me intriguing" isn't necessarily true. Maybe they will, if you are otherwise intriguing. But I think its just as likely that the average 22 year old walking into a bar he wouldn't have even been allowed into 18 months ago with a suit and big dorky smile on his face is most likely to be seen as a pretender. So, let's hope Alberto is not the typical 22 year old!

Not true. Wall Street is one of the last bastions of dressiness left. That goes times 2 if you work in a firm with a sizable percentage of London expats. To them, a "bespoke" suit (or custom anything, for that matter) is the height of elegance.

I am referring to your comment about the cuff links etc. what I am saying is if he goes in there decked out on day one he will be laughed at.

Been on the street for longer and am in a hiring position. But I am guessing we are on the same page.

Yeah he needs to wear a suit, but coming in with a pair of Gucci loafers at 22 is a joke.

If you want to succeed in the street you have to figure out who matters, get them to like you move up generate revenue repeat.

Basically he does not want to show up like a class A d-bag custom suited down with a Rolex, you will make a huge negative impression

I think you can pull this off. Tom Leykis has LOTS of great ideas on how to fake having money, and excuses for why you're driving that crap car ("this is a loaner while my Lexus is being fixed") and live in that crap apartment. The goal is to score within a few dates, before they figure out you don't have the cash or career prospects you say. As for dates, there are PLENTY of bars with a hipness factor chicks will respond to, without even noticing they aren't very expensive. Avoiding dinner is KEY. You need to dodge meal-whores.

I agree. Some of it is subtle - he could get away with a high-end suit, but needs to be careful on watches, cufflinks, etc. Everyone will have a nice suit (unless you are at some small firm that only does agency brokerage) but many will have plastic watches. Wall Street is a true sub-culture and perhaps not relevant to Alberto's situation.

Yeah what I am also saying, is there is no real legit job in finance where you need high end suits at 22. That's a lie.

So if he is going into an average finance position (back office) wtf is he doing preparing to be a cubicle drone for? It's like training to be a sheeple.

He is much better off lifting some weights, wearing a 30cent wife beater and simply saying hello to cute girls.

Suit at 22 = waste of money, use the most valuable asset you have at 22, your healthy body to put on that muscle and run "d-bag muscle dude" game.

I agree, but that's another topic. Most guys at 22 have no idea what they want to, or what the alternatives are. They smart/lucky ones figure it out before its too late. The really lucky ones had a professional dad to direct them at a young age, to avoid all the mistakes he made. Those are the kids who go into college already targeting a bulge bracket firm.
