In America, it is easier going after small fry like you in this case, than going after Investment Banks, etc. who knowingly sold their clients bad products etc. You hear about small guys all the time, rarely does it seem some large corporation takes a hit. If anything, they settle without admitting anything and for less cost than the money the made. People get arrested for shoplifting small items, it would be pretty foolhardy to think that you won't get caught when your intent was to fabricate stuff to get the loan.

Your case would be easier to prove than the ton of work without a certain outcome like some of these major cases. And they can the authorities can boast about it. Also, think about the institution you borrow from, it doesn't want to develop a reputation of letting people borrow money and not pay it back. They have every interest to prosecute to protect their reputation. They have departments full of people to address this stuff.

Whatever you do, don't be like the younger generation that wants to post everything on FB. It is amazing that kids actually do that - commit a crime and post it on FB.

Wrong. you watch too much columbo. Intent NOT motive is needed. Putting wrong information, falsifying in anyway and proof of that is all that is needed. If they want to report it they can. Yea some places have financing options, but only for UK permanent residents, because most payment plans are for 3 or more years. I would not have even thought about taking out a UK loan, had it not been for the few international students at my college who claimed to have done that.

According to the credit-check company, I have little to no chance of getting a loan,but I might be able to get credit cards with very low limits. However, my bank tells me, if I get registered with the UK electoral roll, I might be able to get a small loan.

I suppose I'm better off waiting till I head back to the States if things don't work out well. Eastern Europe is a tad cheaper for LASIK, but I don't know if they're very good at it. As for going to Asia, where I'm sure LASIK is dirt cheap, it's still a lot of money wasted on flights and hotels.

well in the UK, we have bailiffs, you will track you to the ends of the earth for anything from £1 owed to £1 million owed, followed by county court judgements etc. We have payday companies harassing people for repayments, quite a few suicides from that. these companies will want their money back, no matter what the figure is. remember even if they take you to court and it costs them £1000s, they'll get that from you when they win the case.

I borrowed 20k on credit cards and pay-day loans and then moved house and didn't pay them back. They never caught up with me or hunted me down.

I then changed my surname and re-applied for the same credit cards again and opened a bank account in the same branch of HSBC that I ripped off 2 years earlier, no questions asked. I am now just building up my credit with them before I take them to the cleaners again.

Remember it is NOT illegal to borrow money and refuse to pay it back, it's only a civil matter in the UK. You can't be in trouble for being rubbish with money. If the bailiffs ever caught up with me I would go bankrupt immediately and then they can't touch shit ( or just move house ). My friend has done it about ten times. The problem is once you go bankrupt you must declare that on future credit card applications. If you don't then it is fraud and that IS illegal.

Once you are turned down and it's on your record it is nigh on impossible to get one for a period of time. The easiest one to get is HSBC. Open an account and they offer you one.

The most important thing to know is how to fill the forms in. You should say you are a home owner of 9 years with no mortgage. Make 50K a year. Married. That will tick the right boxes and you get a bigger opening amount.

I shouldn't say all this as I'm not particularly proud of my actions but back when the economy was good Amex gave me 5000 pounds when I applied. I bought a ticket to Bangkok immediately and spent the lot on hotels and whores. There was this high class escort agency in BKK that accepted credit cards so I'd phone them up and get two or three sent over all thanks to the lovely shareholders at American Express. When I came back to the UK I tried buying my train ticket home but my card was refused as it was empty. The ticket girl would not give me my card back either so I said phone Amex and speak to them. The girl phoned Amex and she handed me the phone. The guy on the other end said that the card was being confiscated as I had missed all my payments and had used all my credit so I said "no problem mate I've spunked your 5k on whores and cocaine, thanks for the ride, good luck finding me". Alberto if you are planning on leaving the country after your studies just get a cheque book from your bank which are much much easier to get than credit cards and then just go to pay day loan companies and get advances on the cheques you write. I did it all over the north east back in my naughty days. They want some address proof though like a bill and some ask for wage slips. Just google 'replacement pay slips' and order some with whatever wages you want to put on them. It's all very easy.

Vorkuta, I'm leaving soon, either in September or January, all depends on how I do in my exams. As for Pay day companies, I tried one out online, and they were happy to offer me up to 500 pounds immediately. I was rejected by all Credit card companies due to the fact that I am not on the electoral roll. However, I opened a couple of Current Accounts with Halifax and Nationwide, and they have arranged O/D facilities.
