Now that I know more about your situation, I'd try to have access to Santa Monica/Venice (aka Silicon Beach). There are a bunch of Start ups out there. You won't be able to afford it out there, but maybe live in Culver City and live near the metro rail line (should be done in a few months).

You'll have central access to most of LA, you'll have the comforts of the westside (i.e. 20 degrees cooler in the summer versus the Valley) and then you can rent co-work space in Downtown Santa Monica which gives you the feeling of going into an office everyday and being around people.

I'm just generally not a fan of the Valley for various reasons and if you don't have roots, don't really know why anyone would live there. Like I said, its like the burbs of LA. Separated physically from LA by mountain ranges.

Watch out for the predatory car registration laws.

I've been dinged for about $400 over the years, because once I had a car stolen ( reported to the police) and they still assume you own it and should be paying the registration. So they take the registration fees for the car you don't even own anymore and haven't seen in a year out of your tax return ozzoollzllzlzlz.

There is some complex process to try to get the money refunded but they make it so hard you'd miss days at work.

Then , another time, I sold a car to a guy who seemed a bit shady, he paid in over a hundred $20 bills.

I didn't get ID or retain the info from selling the car, but I do think I mailed in the "I sold it form." ...and about three years later the same thing happened, Franchise tax board
decided since that the buyer had never registered it, I owed the reg fees. It's presumption of guilt.

Make sure you get the ID of the person you're selling to , and make SURE DMV knows ( and get a record of them knowing) that you sold a car.

Also, incredibly, if a car has parking tickets on it unpaid when you buy it, you owe the parking tickets. You can check I think if it has tickets at the DMV.

And NEVER buy a car that hasn't been smogged with the certificate within the last 90 days unless it's pre 1975 or diesel I think. It's a paperweight if you can't pass smog.

Honestly dude, if you can get a consistent 4k a month which is totally location independent, get the fuck out of the United States. You said you like Latinas, right? Go live in Colombia, Argentina or Mexico. 4k a month in those countries would be baller status. A 1bdrm apartment apartment in the trendy walkable part of Guadalajara with hot ass Mexican girls everywhere will only cost less than $500 hundred dollars a month. 4k a month in L.A. is barely cutting it and wouldn't even allow you to save much. Plus you live in a spread out suburbanized city where nightlife shuts down at 2am. Latin girls in Latin America are way better than Latin girls in the USA that are Americanized. The difference is blatant. So that's my suggestion, just skip L.A. and go abroad. After 35 years of living in L.A. my general feeling is that it's a cool city, great weather, lots to do, but the crazy cost of living there isn't worth the benefit. My favorite part of California when I lived out there. My favorite first date venue. I'm glad to be out of CA, but my heart still feels at home when I go back and visit Pasadena. There's tons of guys on here who have made the jump to some pussy paradise abroad, even at a young age. Just ask questions and talk to them. I'm sure they'll give you way better more detailed advice than I can.

I know if you grow up in Georgia, L.A. sounds like some kind of paradise. But if you go abroad, you'll come back thinking L.A. sucks shit. Here's my advice, if you can make money online, DO NOT make a permanent move to L.A. without at least taking even a short trip abroad to see what life is like there. On 4k a month you can either live baller status Buenos Aires or Guadalajara where the party goes on all night and you don't even need a car because you can walk to everything. Or you can pay $1200 a month for a fucking studio in a boring L.A. suburb where you live a working class existence and have to sit in traffic everywhere, deal with shitty ratios and where the bouncers are pushing you out of the club by 1:30.

And make no mistake, L.A. is NOT an easy city for game. I've known guys who did well in places like NYC and Chicago and utterly bombed in L.A. Competition is top notch out there, women are notoriously flakey. Like I said, great city if you're making good money, have an apartment in a great location and have access to 8+ women. Short of that, I think most dudes are better off elsewhere. UNLESS...you just like the idea of living in California and don't care about any of the stuff I mentioned above.

It's up to you, I'm not trying to derail your dream, maybe California is your kind of place. Just trying to to open your mind to some other options. But regardless, you should at least check it out for a weeks there and then a few weeks abroad before making a decision.

First of all if your only 19 and can pull in 4k a month congratulations your already lightyears ahead of your peers at this age.

Nevertheless im curious why u arent in college at this point in your life. I am no hardcore university advocate but at this point in your life thats where most people your age will be concentrated.

Will your location independent lifestyle/job still be waiting for you when your done? Im assuming it will although I dont know all the particulars in your case. What would u lose from spending 3yrs or so at a university partying with 19yr old sluts while networking and gaining a degree that may come in handy at some point in your career?

Furthermore look outside the bubble of the US, I understand as well as anyone the desire to move to glamorous "LA and Socal" as a 19yr old I also wanted to do just that. At this point in your life california seems so far away from atlanta, its almost a 5hr flight but for someone that likes latinas as you stated, places like Guadalajara, puerto rico, DR, costa rica are actually closer if u need to fly back and see the family. With all the extra money u save in rent etc, u can even fly back more often.

You have time on your side, being 19 you are at the best point in your life to learn a language, i recommend spanish, french or russian. It will never be easier than it is right now. I can tell u that LA is NOT the place for a brotha to learn spanish, u will have a much easier time doing that overseas and enjoy the process as you interact with attractive females eager to help u out.

Another big issue is that your age is a detriment in LA. You cant drink, take trips to vegas for real, you will pay jacked up car insurance rates, u lack a sufficient credit history, it will be harder to get quality apartments as landlords are more wary of teenage renters with no rental history, viewed with more suspicion by police, etc

I cant recommend for a 19yr old black male to move to LA without family ties here unless you absolutely have to be in hollywood to enter the entertainment industry or something. If you were 24 it might make sense for a few years.

If u absolutely have to be in socal at 19 go the university route Ucla,Santa Barbara or Usc. But even then u would have to pay out of state tuition which is outrageous.

Solid advice bro. I was wanting to go down to Brazil for the World Cup, but nothing really worked out. I was even thinking about studying abroad in Norway or Sweden next year, but now I don't know.

The reason I like California is because it seems like I share a similar mentality with a lot of people out there and it seems cool for someone my age. Maybe I'll change my mind when I get there.

Excellent write up man thanks! The reason I'm not in college is because I honestly think it's a waste of time for the field I'm in. I've had pretty solid job offers before I graduated HS 2 months ago, the most for 85k, but the more solid one was for 45-50k.

If it was absolutely necessary I was going to go the community college route and go to Santa Monica College then transfer to UCLA or UCSB.

California is cool. I'm sure you won't hate it. But just do yourself a favor and travel for a bit before deciding where you want to be. I grew up in California but moved to the south in high school. At your age, I moved from the south back out to California. I was going to school in Atlanta prior. Now I just moved back to the south last winter to save some money and try to make a jump abroad in the next year. I had no international ambitions at your age and wished someone had schooled me about the different options like maybe teaching English in a foreign country for a year or doing like many European and Australian youngsters do and take a gap year traveling through the world and then starting college after.

I agree with what you said, for your occupation, a degree is irrelevent. Portfolio trumps any education. If you've decided that you want to be in that field long term, then forget college. It's a waste of time and money. You might miss out on that college experience but you won't miss out on being $60,000 in debt either when you graduate. You can always post up near a college campus anyway and make friends with students to get some of the social life benefits. As others mentioned, UCSB/Isla Vista is great(if you're mostly into white girls). San Diego is a good alternative to L.A. too.

If you already speak functional Spanish and love Latin American culture and have location independent income, that opens the whole world south of the border. 4k a month solid income you could be living in Polanco in Mexico City. That's like their Beverly Hills. Or the Chaputepec or Zapopan area of Guadalajara, also nice. I know a middle class Mexican girl there with a roommate paying $200 for her share of the rent and literally has all the nightlife a few steps from her front door. If that's something you decide on down the line, I could put you in touch with her and maybe she has advice on getting a pad for cheap.

Any upscale night spot in Monterrey, Guadalajara or Mexico City and they are a dime a dozen and they'll be way nicer in personality than a similar looking girl in L.A.

Don't worry about racism in Mexico. Some Mexicans in America can be racist toward blacks, but in Mexico I've found them way cooler, especially the middle and upper class Mexicans who are most Westernized. I was treated well by everyone.

So here's what I suggest(and it's only a suggestion) go visit California for a few weeks, tour around, see what you think. Then take a few months and travel to different Latin American countries. If you have some money saved up you can just backpack and hostel. In 2009 I hit Chile, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil in just 2 months and it was a life changing experience. Then when you get back to the U.S. your whole perspective on what's out there will be different. Maybe you'll still decide on California and if you do that's cool, nothing wrong with that if you really like it. But at least you'll have other places to compare it to and not wonder what you might be missing out on.

There are a couple things to keep in mind regardless. Value. L.A. in my opinion doesn't offer a lot of value. By that I mean the lifestyle you get for what you have to pay for it. By global standards L.A.'s nightlife is weak. The beach culture in Brazil blows California out of the water. The weather and geography in Chile is identical to California but with cheaper costs and in some ways more freedom(like you can actually have a beer on the beach). You are 19 so your nightlife is restricted to house parties for the next two years. Get abroad and none of that shit matters. With decent location independent income like you stated, you can live very good anywhere in Latin America, whereas that same money in California(most expensive state in the country after Hawaii) is barely cutting it.

Second, and I can't emphasize this enough. Women in other countries are a much better experience than American women. It's one of those things you just have to see for yourself. But every dude in this forum will vouch for what I'm saying. Once you've experienced foriegn women, you'll never want an American woman again. Oh and almost forgot to mention. A second idea. You can get a freelancer visa for Germany good for 2 years I think. If you can prove that you have freelance income from your home country, you can get a visa to live in Germany, and this means of course you can travel all around the EU easily with Germany being right in the center. Berlin is one of the cheapest Western capitals in the world. Some say it has the best nightlife in the world and you don't have to wait till 21 to experience it. Language shouldn't be an issue either since nearly everyone under 40 speaks English. I'd research that option as well. Talk to Sourcecode, he's could tell you all about Germany.

My favorite part of California when I lived out there. My favorite first date venue. I'm glad to be out of CA, but my heart still feels at home when I go back and visit Pasadena. In Pasadena I had this cute little girl at a smoothie joint there giving me eyes and asking personal questions and any time a petite barely legal is doggie dinner bowl that leaves a special place in my heart for that venue and hood in particular. Love the young.

I still don't get your main motivation. You say you like the mentality of the people out here, but want to live in the more conservative suburban outskirts of LA where its "quieter"? If you really want to be out in the burbs, move to a smaller town or something, if you want to be in LA, there should be a purpose. Say, you like the weather or you want to be in the entertainment biz, but because you think you'll have something similar with the people out here? That's a pretty terrible reason, just because how LA is.

I think you should take classes at Santa Monica College during the day and do some online hustling at night. You'll have access to TONS of girls there. There are some Valley JCs too, if you're set on the Valley. I'l just say that I think you'll have a harder time dating interracially than if you live in LA itself. Maybe others will disagree with that, but its just my guesstimate as, like I said, its a bit more family oriented and conservative versus the wild wild west of young hustlers out in LA.

Living out in the Valley and staying inside isn't really the LA experience. As for LA itself, the people are shallow, fake and will stab you if you're not dialed in, and the best way for your age group is to be in an educational setting, even if just for the connections. Unrealistic expectations on what its like here.

Some people can handle it, some can't. People come into LA with great expectations and get kicked back to where they were from a year later, it happens all the time.

Yeah, I probably should have went more in depth. I really love the geography of LA and SoCal, it being close to a lot of really awesome cities (being close to Mexico is a plus), the weather (I really hate winters), and the people (in California in general) seem chiller and cool to be around. I just feel like it has something that no other city can offer me.

That might sound a little silly though.

There's tons of guys on here who have made the jump to some pussy paradise abroad, even at a young age. Just ask questions and talk to them. I'm sure they'll give you way better more detailed advice than I can.

I know if you grow up in Georgia, L.A. sounds like some kind of paradise. But if you go abroad, you'll come back thinking L.A. sucks shit. Here's my advice, if you can make money online, DO NOT make a permanent move to L.A. without at least taking even a short trip abroad to see what life is like there. On 4k a month you can either live baller status Buenos Aires or Guadalajara where the party goes on all night and you don't even need a car because you can walk to everything. Or you can pay $1200 a month for a fucking studio in a boring L.A. suburb where you live a working class existence and have to sit in traffic everywhere, deal with shitty ratios and where the bouncers are pushing you out of the club by 1:30.

And make no mistake, L.A. is NOT an easy city for game. I've known guys who did well in places like NYC and Chicago and utterly bombed in L.A. Competition is top notch out there, women are notoriously flakey. Like I said, great city if you're making good money, have an apartment in a great location and have access to 8+ women. Short of that, I think most dudes are better off elsewhere. UNLESS...you just like the idea of living in California and don't care about any of the stuff I mentioned above.

It's up to you, I'm not trying to derail your dream, maybe California is your kind of place. Just trying to to open your mind to some other options. But regardless, you should at least check it out for a weeks there and then a few weeks abroad before making a decision.

Solid advice bro. I was wanting to go down to Brazil for the World Cup, but nothing really worked out. I was even thinking about studying abroad in Norway or Sweden next year, but now I don't know.

The reason I like California is because it seems like I share a similar mentality with a lot of people out there and it seems cool for someone my age. Maybe I'll change my mind when I get there.

California is cool. I'm sure you won't hate it. But just do yourself a favor and travel for a bit before deciding where you want to be. I grew up in California but moved to the south in high school. At your age, I moved from the south back out to California. I was going to school in Atlanta prior. Now I just moved back to the south last winter to save some money and try to make a jump abroad in the next year. I had no international ambitions at your age and wished someone had schooled me about the different options like maybe teaching English in a foreign country for a year or doing like many European and Australian youngsters do and take a gap year traveling through the world and then starting college after.

I agree with what you said, for your occupation, a degree is irrelevent. Portfolio trumps any education. If you've decided that you want to be in that field long term, then forget college. It's a waste of time and money. You might miss out on that college experience but you won't miss out on being $60,000 in debt either when you graduate. You can always post up near a college campus anyway and make friends with students to get some of the social life benefits. As others mentioned, UCSB/Isla Vista is great(if you're mostly into white girls). San Diego is a good alternative to L.A. too.

If you already speak functional Spanish and love Latin American culture and have location independent income, that opens the whole world south of the border. 4k a month solid income you could be living in Polanco in Mexico City. That's like their Beverly Hills. Or the Chaputepec or Zapopan area of Guadalajara, also nice. I know a middle class Mexican girl there with a roommate paying $200 for her share of the rent and literally has all the nightlife a few steps from her front door. If that's something you decide on down the line, I could put you in touch with her and maybe she has advice on getting a pad for cheap.

Any upscale night spot in Monterrey, Guadalajara or Mexico City and they are a dime a dozen and they'll be way nicer in personality than a similar looking girl in L.A.

Don't worry about racism in Mexico. Some Mexicans in America can be racist toward blacks, but in Mexico I've found them way cooler, especially the middle and upper class Mexicans who are most Westernized. I was treated well by everyone.

So here's what I suggest(and it's only a suggestion) go visit California for a few weeks, tour around, see what you think. Then take a few months and travel to different Latin American countries. If you have some money saved up you can just backpack and hostel. In 2009 I hit Chile, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil in just 2 months and it was a life changing experience. Then when you get back to the U.S. your whole perspective on what's out there will be different. Maybe you'll still decide on California and if you do that's cool, nothing wrong with that if you really like it. But at least you'll have other places to compare it to and not wonder what you might be missing out on.

There are a couple things to keep in mind regardless. Value. L.A. in my opinion doesn't offer a lot of value. By that I mean the lifestyle you get for what you have to pay for it. By global standards L.A.'s nightlife is weak. The beach culture in Brazil blows California out of the water. The weather and geography in Chile is identical to California but with cheaper costs and in some ways more freedom(like you can actually have a beer on the beach). You are 19 so your nightlife is restricted to house parties for the next two years. Get abroad and none of that shit matters. With decent location independent income like you stated, you can live very good anywhere in Latin America, whereas that same money in California(most expensive state in the country after Hawaii) is barely cutting it.

Second, and I can't emphasize this enough. Women in other countries are a much better experience than American women. It's one of those things you just have to see for yourself. But every dude in this forum will vouch for what I'm saying. Once you've experienced foriegn women, you'll never want an American woman again. Damn dude, awesome read! I'm gonna take your advice and visit California for a week and explore (should be easy since I'll have a car), then hit up Latin America for a month or two to see what I can find. And yeah I plan on staying in the web field for life pretty much, I love it too much.

I think UCLA starts in September and USC starts in August.

Not that there are not enough girls in LA, but you're at the right age and would get the best idea if school was in session.

So maybe shoot for September. Plus, UCLA is in a nicer part of town and the campus is pretty nice.

Agree with the recs to go travel a bit before deciding on LA. You are still really young and you don't want to bet it all on LA. Lots of ppl have this impression of LA from movies and TV but then they move there and it is not like that. It's a city like anywhere else, with especially acute traffic and sprawl problems. Since you have a mobile income you can live in Latin America for a third of the cost or less and be around a lot more women who are still feminine and non-fat. Plus, since it seems you have the willingness to move far away (which a lot of guys never even develop) I'm sure you're capable of making a move abroad. So I'd basically go on Airbnb and find a place in LA for one month. Check it out for a month, then get a flight to Latin America and check out 3-4 countries there. After that make your decision.

I feel like it's better to be in a tier 2 city with a fair number of attractive women, but not so many celebs
and pro athletes. Phoenix and Denver would seem like good bets.
