on the Clarks desert boots - the sizing is a little wonky on them (I sized down from typically wearing 11-11.5 to 10.5 I think) and with the two-lace design they often slip a little at the heel as you walk. they're super comfortable especially with the crepe soles, but IMO not the best for a long day of walking around.

I have a pair of Clarks DBs and a pair of Bushacres - only difference is the Bushacre has a rubber sole instead of crepe so it will be more durable and less of a pain in the rain.

I also have a couple pairs of suede chukkas that are a little more 'formal' - the desert boot is very wide and rounded at the front which makes it a good casual sneaker replacement, but a more traditional dress boot cut can be good for a somewhat more dressy approach. Deluge's 2nd desert boot pic is the style I'm talking about - according to Google Image they're Charles Tyrwhitt "Harwood" chukkas.

anything suede I recommend buying a suede protectant spray to preserve them. Saphir makes great suede sprays in neutral or colored. And Tarrago Nano Spray is incredible - check out this video.

Hey I'm a pretty broke student, so I looked at Allen Edmonds and for sure I can't afford them, it would take half my month's scholarship to afford a pair. I went on Amazon to find some cheaper brands. What do you think of fake leather? These look nice to me and caught my eye:







The brands are called Delli Aldo and Ferro Aldo, and to my untrained eye it looks pretty similar in styling to the good brands. They got high reviews online but a lot of people complained about the tire smell, which i assume is from the polyurethane fake leather. But they say airing it out for 2-3 days gets rid of it, and for 35$ it seems like a small setback

Finding Jeans for Athletic Thighs

I’ve certainly dropped some weight since my playing days, but I still have the proportions problem. If they fit in the waist, they’re way too tight in the thighs (which can’t be let-out in jeans). And if they fit in the thighs, then they are likely way too big in the waist.

So what’s the solution?

Here’s some tips:

• Avoid anything with the words “Skinny” or “Matchstick”. These are not for you
• Hit a large department store and try on as many brands/sizes/cuts as possible to find the closest fit. Be weary of “slim”, too. What you’re looking for is probably “Straight” or maybe even “Relaxed”
• The trick is to find a pair that fits well through the thigh, even if they are a little big in the waist/seat. Remember they can be taken-in at the tailor, but cannot be let-out
• Once you find the closest fit, wear them around the house for a day or two to pre-stretch them. Then bring them to your tailor to have them slimmed-down where needed
• Keep in mind the waist/seat can’t be TOO big, as slimming it down brings the back pockets closer together
• If you’re not experienced working with a tailor, consider brining a picture of the fit you’re looking for (being realistic with your body type). You can use the newly added TSBmen LOOKBOOK to find inspiration.
• Once you have your new jeans nipped to the perfect fit, don’t wash them! Try to go unwashed for as long as possible. If they get too funky, go with dry cleaning instead as this will avoid any possible shrinkage or fit changes.

Good thread, couple personal thoughts

-Boat shoes should not be worn unless your on the taller side. I have a co-worker about 5'6" and probably has a size 8 shoe and boat shoes are a terrible look on him. Talk about a way to make someone small look smaller. If you're 6'1" and have a model build, wear them all day.

-I disagree on sneakers to an extent. They are pretty much a go to with shorts for me and I wear them plenty with jeans as well. It really depends on the circumstance though but girls at least in the U.S. aren't looking down on you if you have good style with sneakers.

On the interweb, there is a shed loads of stuff on mens fashion. But the thing is, most of this stuff seem to be about guys in suits.

Nice post, it was a good read. A quick question though: I am particularly interested in rebel style, where can I find pictures of guys displaying this identity?

^ In the picture above, the dude in the black t-shirt has poor style. The dude next to him (looks like the leader) is bit on the overweight side. The dude next to him with the bandana, you can't see him too well and does look a bit fat.

The dude furthest to the right, looks like he has got it everything right. He is lean and has clothing which fits him perfectly.

I bet very few dudes would be willing to go out dressed like this.because they prefer to be conservative.

Much of what I see in these mens fashion blogs is guys in preppy suits, I haven't seen too many where the emphasis is all on casual wear.

Those are the guys from Duck Dynasty... When you have a tv show, their money, and their level of influence, you can wear whatever the hell you want.

If you go out to Middle of Fuck Nowhere, USA you'll see guys dressed like this even when it's not hunting season.

If you're short and you have really small feet then wearing a shoe with with really thin soles isn't the best option IMO. Boat shoes tend to have a small overall profile as well so it made this guy feet look really small and I never noticed that about a guy before. On the flipside I have a friend who is 6'2", swimmer build and boat shoes look great on him. With women i'd say the only ones who shouldn't wear boat shoes are fat girls.

In summary i'd say don't wear boat shoes if you have any of the following attributes;

-Short
-Really small feet
-Fat

Sole thickness varies by brand. My pair of Sperry Topsiders don't have thick soles, but I wouldn't call them thin either. Out of the 7 pairs of shoes I own, my desert boots, leather ankle boots and low top Converse I wear when lifting that all have thinner soles.



^By most people's standards this is not thin. Maybe if you're a manlet and every extra centimeter counts, but same applies to tons of different shoes. You're probably better off getting heel lifts then worrying about how thick the soles are in that situation.

For those annoying collars both on dress shirts that pop out, and polo shirts that get floppy and curled, I found a good product. Its like a collar stay except better as you can use it on polos and dress shirts without the little pocket for collar stays. Though this brand is a bit pricey, hopefully you can get the same product online somewhere a bit cheaper.
