Online Sports Betting
I wanted to start a thread where we can discuss weekly games, fights ...etc and help each other pick the favored team/fighter for the purpose of making money on online sports betting.

This is something new for me. So it would be cool if some of the experienced sports betters could shed some light.

Which online sports betting websites do you guys use?

Any upcoming picks?

RE: Online Sports Betting
Online sports books are frauds that will screw you over in the long run (if you bet sizeable amounts). The majority of them are all based in places like Antigua, Costa Rica, places in Caribbean, etc. If they don't pay you your winnings and they stop communication with you, you are SOL and won't be able to get your $ back. Pretty much, you'll be in the position of 'a drug dealer having his product and cash robbed' (he can't go to cops/authorities for help).

I've heard plenty of stories from people who were betting $1,000-5,000 per wager w/ an online sports book. They won a few wagers and were facing a good profit. They cashed out expecting their check or wire transfer of their winnings and principal. The sport book didn't send them a check or wire transfer, b/c they didn't want to pay out such high winnings. Sometime the sport book also seized their principal. A few were lucky to get their principal deposit back. (And these guys were using the 'reputable' online sports books).

So be aware with these shady fuckers. What happened with Full Tilt Poker last week happens with online sports books. I truly believe your best and safest choice (some ppl will laugh) is with a reputable bookie in your city. Good luck.

This can unfortunately be the case for US players since the companies have to be somewhat shady in the first place even to take them. That being said people outside of the US have plenty viable and trustworthy options - I've been involed in the industry since 2006 and well a lot of the US books have done shady stuff for other countries it's usually pretty good.

Try to get a friend of yours in Europe to bet on Bwin or Bet365 for you.

I just posted something very similar in the other gambling thread, it's a risky business but there is money to be made (not nearly as much as there used to be) if you are smart.

Google matched betting and arbing.

This is something new for me.

I'm experienced. There are specialized forums for this, primarily populated by idiots. The best one is probably roughingthepunter.com.

Predicting the outcome is not a good way to make money because the markets are too efficient. Historically much of the money was made from dumb bookies who went out of business, stiffed people, or left the U.S. Sportsbookreview.com shows only one or two A-rated books that will take professional-level U.S. bets. And they will take countermeasures against pros (cut your limits, etc.).

Maybe you can find a dumb local bookie or agent.

That's a good thing you did...Parley. Well, I agree that there are many betting sites which are fraud and cheat many players. But still there are some sites which do their work with honesty and try to provide safe and secure environment to the players. Bettors should select those sites which are legal.

RE: Online Sports Betting
I'm always game for some sports betting. I rarely bet a lot though as I don't have much disposable income being a student!

About 95% of my bets are on football (soccer), I always bet on tournaments such as the euros and world cup and sometimes throughout the course of a season.

There are plenty of sites to browse to find good tips that they've found through the statistics.

The last euros in poland and ukraine I ended up £100 up, starting with a tenner. So thats 10x my original bet.

If you do bet on a tournament I'd say your in for the long run. My first 2 bets culminated in me being 75 quid down. Other upsets meant I lost a bit more such as Russia and Germany losing.

Overall it makes the sport a bit mroe fun and person to watch.[/u]

RE: Online Sports Betting
Aside from the inherent risks involved in gambling, these online sites really seem to put the bettor at a great risk of being scammed. I would recommend just driving or flying to Las Vegas and betting cash at one of the many sportsbooks. If you do that, the only risk you will seem to face is the obvious one of possibly losing the bet. I am seriously considering catching a flight to Las Vegas two weeks from tomorrow and putting some serious money (solid five figures) on Sergio Martinez. I never gamble, but I can't see Chavez possibly pulling it off. The odds are not that unfavorable for Martinez considering that almost everyone considers him to be the superior fighter. My concern is that I have tried to contact sportsbooks to get the odds and they are being completely James Bond about giving me any information. They are basically telling me that I need to go to Las Vegas to find out any information from the sports books. I do know from some of the online betting sites that the odds have gone from about 1.5:5 to over 2:1 in the past several weeks with Martinez being the favorite. I am just concerned about how much higher than 2:1 the odds may get before September 15. I definitely do not want to take my chances with any online gambling. Any information regarding Las Vegas sportsbooks would be greatly appreciated.

I agree that gamblers usually lose. There are exceptions to that though. If you had bet $2,000 on Floyd Mayweather in the first fight in which you could place a bet on him and continued to bet on him with that initial $2,000 plus any additional amount you made from betting on him in each fight, I am pretty sure that you would have a solid six-figure amount in winnings. The guy has never lost, but you would have to be an excellent scout of boxers in order to predict that he would win every fight. I know that there is someone alive who has bet on him every fight and has reaped the benifits.
