I recently discovered torrents and have lots of new music as expected....I have a few boxes full of cds and tapes and can not afford to waste more space plus burning cds is a hassle....I think it is time to pull the plug and invest in a mp3 player...Any tips on what i should look for? I guess it is expected that they will fall apart eventually like every other electronic device?? Does sound quality diminish once you connect the player to a source via aux? I will use this in my car and am a sound quality nut so I hope that can be avoided...I would like to slowly transfer music from my cd collection to a player to save place but not sure I want to if the quality starts going down the drain...Are flash memory players just as good as standard, bigger ones?? Help

When did i say i just discovered mp3s, im not that old!! I have been downloading albums since the Napster days, blogs, forums etc...i always refused to get a player when i saw someone lose his along with his entire music collection..most people casually put a few cds or random songs but i was never crazy about letting 200 albums go because it fell out of my pocket...R Smoov check out ICQ and Aol chat rooms

Discover 1-TB external hard drives. You lose the player, you still have a backup of your precious collection.

Brian - your post sounded as if you just discovered mp3s - no offense there man. It's only good-natured fun.

Personally I have my entire music collection on my hard-drives and update and change music on my Phone and my MP3-player.



I only use my Phone occasionally for music or my Ipod shuffle. I can recommend warmly the Shuffle, because it is highly durable, has an off-the charts usability value, though you have to select the songs via Notebook. I use it when going running, doing workouts or walking around the city if I don't tap into my phone. It's tiny and I even used it for conversational pieces having picked a garish color. The limited functionality does not concern me, because I don't like to look down for songs non-stop anyway.

I lost my MP3 player a few months ago and haven't bothered to replace it since. I never used to go anywhere alone without my headphones on to block out the horrors of contemporary society. Frankly its been liberating to stop giving a shit about that.

I'm not spending a grip to buy the iPhone 6 for an inferior interface. (touch screens blow)

FiiO, Sansa, and Sony all come to mind.
Cop those plus memory card and you should be good to go.

For my truck, I grabbed a small LG NetZero prepaid android phone at Walmart for $19. I skipped the activation and stripped off everything except Pandora, Netflix, YouTube and a music app.

I know it is touchscreen but $19 for a totally customizable media player that comes with 8 gigs storage , a micro SD slot and a wall charger. You would be hard pressed to find anything that comes close to it for anywhere near the price.

I uploaded all my music to Google's service, allows up to 30,000 songs at any bitrate. Use Viper for Android to keep the audio loud. My friends always look at me when we're at a party with no tunes since I'm now the walking jukebox

The problem I have with LPs is that one side usually finishes while I'm still banging away, leaving me with nothing but dead silence and squishy pussy noises to get my groove on.

My mp3 player has to be light because I like running with music. So I bought a SanDisk Sansa Clip.



Pros, in order of importance:
1. Price: $35 for the 4GB version. I got the lesser version because...
2. microSD card slot. I organized all my music into playlists and transferred it to a 64 GB microSD card. Pretty much my whole music library on that tiny thing.
3. Size and weight, plus the clip. It clips onto an armband I have for running.

Cons:
1. Crappy user interface. Not that it looks like shit, I don't care about that, but finding my playlists takes a bit longer and start-up takes a little longer as well. Also, when you put your SD card in, the player has to 'update' the library and render your player unusable for a while.
2. Build quality. Though that's deceptive, because even though it's made of cheap plastic, I've had this thing for almost 2 years, now that I think of it... and I've gone through multiple iPod nanos that didn't last nearly that long.
3. General reliability. It'll wonk out occasionally, shit looks like it's running MS-DOS.

The iPod Nanos are obviously better, but they have less memory and actually break more often on me than the SanDisk.

Yea, it was definitely worth it overall, especially just to get the hell off iTunes completely.
