I think it's psychological. Perhaps on some level you don't feel you deserve a truly beautiful girl, so the thought of hooking up with one psyches you out. Enter the butterface: Since butterfaces have an easily perceivable flaw, they're more approachable and hence more attainable to you. Work on improving your inner game and I'm willing to bet you'll find yourself more willing/able to score true beauties.

"Chemistry" is often a bullshit term that women use, but it's true that you share it with some women more than others.

When a chick gives you a boner it can sometimes have nothing to do with her level of attractiveness. She could have serious sex appeal or it's that she behaves coquettishly.

But generally speaking, if you have a new woman in your bed, the novelty alone should see to it that you get a hard-on.

I theorize it can also be a rationalization. If a girl is very beautiful, then you might focus on her beauty, and then if she has looks worse one day than another day, you might question your decision and wonder, "Could I do better?" When she's close to perfection, you're more likely to notice every imperfection.

However, if she's not that pretty, then you might say, "Well, if I got with this girl, despite her being not that pretty, she must have a really awesome personality, or she must be really good in bed, or something." This can make her seem like more of a special snowflake, whom the prettier girls can't compete with. As Rollo wrote:

I gotta remind you guys though that there's a reason most chicks nowadays look the same. You know what I'm talking about, the cardboard cutout look of the new modern woman: thick penciled in eyebrows (or whatever it is they do), excessive use of mascara, a vibrant lip stick color and heavy, heavy foundation. This has been the case with me.
