Yeah, I left at about 945 and there was a line 75 people deep. probably caught a lot of the after work crowd (like I was when I rolled in there). I really liked the vibe in there, I think I'm only going to go there early though, it seemed nice when the sun was still out...

Santa Monica has been a shit show recently. I have no idea why.

I used to run the Viceroy. We'd shoo up around 11:30 and always get in without drama. For the first time in over 30 times I had been there, there was a line - at 10:30!

Bungalo is a zoo. Last night it was at capacity at 8 o'clock.

It's a fun zoo. If you're in line at 10, expect wait for 30-60 minutes.

Wilshire is packed unless you're there before 10 or 10:30.

Did a bunch of people move to the West Side?

Rolling out to non-Main Street bars used to be the way to go. Now even regular spots are starting to involve lines and door drama.

Just get a table at 31 Ten or something. You get right in. You can get 10 people in for one bottle. After service charges and mixers, you're all in for about $500. Unless you have dead beats/mooches, it's only $50 a guy.

I haven't been to 31ten on a friday/saturday recently, but when I did go last, the place is empty at ten, with no line. They play games with the lines there, but it's actually good because it doesn't get too packed inside even when they have a big line, and they start charging cover for guys at 1100 or so.

they had a fire code violation a few months ago, fire marshalls shut it down so they've had to keep the crowd down. i'm headed there tonight actually.

Was at 31ten tonight. There was no line. It's gone downhill - few white people left, tons of dudes most of whom are Persian or Hispanic or vaguely low class. Gangs of Asians, and the white girls seem precious all of a sudden. In the Hollywood promoter blogger parlance, it's a 'tier 4' establishment ( confessionsofahollywoodpromoter.blogspot.com/2010/01/life-cycle-of-hollywood-club-pt-2_02.html? m=1 ). Several whales, including a black one who opened me, not far from Tier 5 territory, like Circle Bar. They also weirdly had tables in the dance floor area, as if it would look empty if they had moved them out of the way. Would not be surprised if it closes within a year.

Main on Main judging by the line is a much better bet. Haven't been there yet.

There were still some white girls walking around, plus a bunch at tables. But the tables don't lend themselves to macking. You can probably still make something of the place, but I'm going to look for greener pastures... I always did like that it was not a very loud place.

Yeah, I was there for a minute too. honestly the best place to chat girls is in the bathroom line. lol. i think the crowd was indictative of just that night because last time (about a month ago) there was a ton of white girls (and others) that were pretty good looking.

i think that table was put there on purpose on the dance floor b/c of the capacity issues. was going to go elsewhere on main street but it was too crowded so ended up in manhattan beach. had the taxi take us by Nikkis too which seemed dead.

Fair point, but often these joints never recover from uh, diversity. Main on Main had a huge line.

Can you break down a successful bathroom line pickup you've done before? I always talk to girls while in line, but then I or she go into the bathroom, and it's over. Best you can hope for is that you run into her in the club later and chat again. Plus at 31ten, everyone can hear everyone in the bathroom line, you're spitting game to 20 girls and guys at the same time, holding court basically.

kind of tounge in cheek of a comment, as you described. its just the girls in line are pretty good looking and kind of forced to be there (they can't leave really) and its just oddly silent at times. Yeah was trying to hit up Main on Main afterwards, but that place just gets fire capacity packed.

Not ready to write off 31-ten yet, i've had a few pickups there....i'll go back in a few weeks (maybe go solo, did much better than with a "wingman" last night who just complained about how many guys were in the place all night).

Anyone got good resources for discovering bars?

Here are a few I've been using:

Urban Daddy - they have a brief list of bars scattered throughout the city that look good.
Venice Papparazzi (mostly limited to Venice)
Metrowize (credit to Speakeasy for this one)

Still, you sort of have to check out each place on your own. All of the descriptions are almost worthless - the venue feedback I see on the forum here is usually much more valuable.

Metrowize has some happy hour maps with good leads.

For main on main you can pay the bouncers off to get in when there is a huge line. Sometimes they make you wait, and you have to ask multiple bounces (first two didn't allow it), but they will let you bribe them to get you in.

yeah, the $20 handshake works well there and a few other spots when the lines are long. not sure what's going on for LDW in LA. Usually its extremely chill, yesterday was the night to go out but I was too tired. i need to get my networking tighter again, used to go to private corporate parties...magazine launches, studio parties...those were the ultimate.

Question for guys here generally - say you have 10 local bars to choose from, and you feel like one gets you laid more than the others. Do you just always go to that one as a first choice? Assuming there aren't special events at the others. It's less novel, I guess, but I don't really go out for the scene anyway.

I feel like I've been wasting time 'bar-hopping' when I should just plant myself at one joint, or just have an early and a late joint. Get a routine down and stick to it.

I've been by El Baron but only during the day when its a restaurant, they have decent salvadorian food and curvy waitresses. Its a small place but I might swing by on a sunday when there's no cover and see if there is any talent.

You'll find a "secret" place where the music and ratios are good. Three months later you go back and don't recognize the place.

So make the most of the place.

L.A. favors young guys to the extent that you need to remain plugged in to find out what's good.

Facebook is good for that. If you have young hot slut friends, look at where they are checking in.

Bunaglo is still good. Shore Bar is supposed to be the new thing. (Haven't been, so I can't say.)

Definitely for some spots, especially the bigger, glamorous ones like Bungalow. And places with bottle service. The smaller, more neighborhood type joints, like the places in Venice, are less cyclical and last longer.

But if you want the hottest girls, you can't beat those trendy spots with a shelf life shorter than Lindsay Lohan's mug. Question is, do you want a Roman candle or a wax candle.

Urban Daddy and Eater LA are good resources for finding the hot joints. New --> hot.

Pretty busy for Sunny Spot on the weekends, at least when I've been. I went there for dinner once and there were groups of girls at the bar having drinks later at night.

I've only been 3 times there, but like the vibe alot. bohemian, not super packed and decent ratios when I've been. little order, more sophisticated crowd.

I haven't been to Brennans in years. Thursday night when they have the turtle races is the only time to really go there.

The Valley has almost no decent nightlife. That blows my mind given that the valley by itself is about the size of Phoenix.

The noho arts district is a decent area for going out. The Federal Bar is a nice little spot that gets good local traffic. Probably my favorite venue in the valley. Other than noho most the other half decent bars will either be in downtown burbank or scattered about along Ventura Blvd in the Studio City neighborhood.

In general though, I'd avoid moving to the valley if you're looking to get laid like crazy. It's an okay place to live and it's a bit cheaper(I grew up out here), but it's a logistical nightmare as far as pulling. Too few venues and going down to LA to party makes any SNLs almost impossible. If you made your mind up to move here best place is noho for a bachelor. Plus you're on the metro red line stop for easy access to Hollywood and downtown. If not there, then very close to Ventura Blvd in either U Universal City, Studio City or Sherman Oaks. Burbank nightlife is mostly wack to me but there are lots of bars and restaurants so if you're within walking distance of the center you may be cool. Good luck!

I've only been to LA for a week or so but even I figured out that while the popular places (new hot joints) are packed with talent its better to stay away since its not economical and you have to deal with bouncers and other ordeals. A good post would be best 10 meatmarkets with no cover, good ratios and no lineups...showed up at bungalow last night and even though we were there at 9pm, there was a huge lineup (an hours wait). Thank God for Huntleys.

Most of the decently popular joints only have lines starting around 11pm. Get there at 10pm, and you won't have problems. Most people in LA, especially guys, are too cool to show up early. Get your act together, show up at ten, get the best spot in the bar, and avoid all the line antics. Do it regularly at the same joints, and you'll get on good terms with the bar staff.

Bungalow however, is brand new, has a great space, A-list backing, and white-hot polularity, so none of that applies.

I can understand the appeal of showing up late and being seen getting in. That's the same everywhere. So, I'll try and show up earlier to places.
