So I've had a macbook pro for a year and a half, and I honestly haven't really figured out how to use it.

I feel really ADD with it.

My previous laptop had vista, which was also confusing.

I actually had my old laptop fixed, so I'm now thinking about ditching the apple and then going back to a version of windows before vista.

Life was so much easier on the old windows system. Apple software confuses the hell out of me.

Any thoughts? Anybody here make the switch from windows to mac?

Apple builds great hardware, but its software is designed for complete retards. I only survived OS X for less than a week, and I ditched all the iPhones I got withing a year.
There is a bunch of things you can do with Windows which you cannot do with Mac. Much less (any?) vice versa. Go for it.

There's definitely a bit of a learning curve when switching from windows to mac, but trust me - once you go Mac, you'd never go back. Mac's software and features like Spaces is years ahead of windows.

Have a mac and windows. Either one works fine if you spend some time and learning the differences. The only question to ask you is what do you use the laptop for?

If it's basic stuff, then you can keep either. If you run specific programs, then you might run into compatibility issues between the two systems.

Please explain what you mean. From a simple end user perspective, I think the Mac is better off. They hardly get viruses (since most virus writers write their shyt for Windows platforms) and overall shyt seems quite smooth.

Yes there are compatibility issues in terms of certain games (we are men, do we really need to base our computer purchase on playing games) but list other solid ways where you see the Windows software superior over Mac.

I'm using Window 7 and Office 10. Vista and Office 7 were train wrecks. So far 7 has been great. Linux Mint is another great alternative. It's set up and feels like Windows.

What do you use the mac to do?

Have you tried spending time with an online tutorial to learn about basic usage?

Go to the mac website and read through their tutorials.

If you're just not comfortable, then switch to windows. No harm, no foul.

In the old versions of windows, that was really easy. But with mac I get brain fry trying to figure out what happened to the program I just had open.

Once you decide to stick with Windows, you should probably move ahead to Windows 7.

Windows 7 is a pretty smooth experience. The familiarization time if you're coming from XP is not that much at all.

I bought my first Mac (and also my first laptop) in August 2007. White Macbook pro. Turned out to be one of the best investments I've ever made. Had it nearly five years, been all over the world, use it all day every day, and I've never had a single issue with it. I really cant envision a scenario where I ever go back to a non Apple laptop. They do cost a little more but its worth it many times over in my opinion.

I would say Windows 7 and Mac OS X are similar in terms of initial stability, but I find that all windows systems tend to slow down over time, whereas my Mac laptop feels as fast as the day I got it.

OP you do know about Spaces/Expose, right? Hit F3 to see everything you have open, then click on the thing you want.

Once you get the hang of that, you'll find macs WAY WAY better than windows. It just another level of multi-tasking.

Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and Office 10 are what I'm currently running. When you're a traveling professional, however, Windows is the way to go for worldwide compatibility.

Yeah I don't fuck around with my resume and cover letter. This is the specific reason why I run Windows. A while back my resume somehow got saved as an rtf file. Shit wouldn't open, but I didn't know it, and was sending it out everywhere. No wonder I didn't ever hear back on a job.

I started with Ubuntu 9.04 on a netbook. Great system, but it was smarter than me. I switched off to XP, then Mint. Mint was far more user friendly.

Another thing I suggest is to partition your HD, and run both 7 and Linux. For daily b.s., like surfing the web, use Linux. You won't get viruses. Keep Windows firewalled off, and only use it when compatibility is needed.

They do make programs like Wine, that let's you run Windows based software on Linux.

Another big disadvantage is pirating software. You find more stuff for windows than mac, especially newer versions of software...although torrent sites may be getting shut down soon anyway.

Is no one IT literate around you in the Phillipines? I know total IT phobes that have started off with Macs and loved it. How is your IT literacy? What do you use your computers for? It's one of those things that you use and you read up tips online as to different ways to use it.

I'm inherently against Mac, and I wont bring that issue here, but if you want an easy to use OS I recommend windows 7 as well.

In general, though, most people who claim to "not understand" computers are thinking WAY to hard. You have to realize, computer operating systems are designed to be used by Wal-Mart shoppers.

I think it's more about how you use your computer than its type. A machine that has only the applications you need, and is free of unnecessary clutter is always going to be better.
