Pomegranate juice raises testosterone levels
I recently stumbled upon an article on pomegranate juice, claiming that the juice raises your testosterone levels.

Being a curious cat, I bought myself a bottle of it.

Well, after two weeks on this juice, I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm feeling much more confident and energetic, my mood is better and my little beer belly is shrinking like a mofo. And yes, I feel that my sex drive has increased. Banana

I'm always sceptical with these things as I am well aware of the power of the placebo effect and the fact that there are just too many studies which are poorly designed and are of low scientific quality.

But, as I'm experiencing positive results myself, I thought I'd share my findings and would like to hear of other peoples' experiences.

The are no drawbacks to drinking pomegranate juice other than it naturally containing extra calories and being expensive.

In Germany, 1 bottle of 750ml costs around 8 Euros. You can get it cheaper if you order larger quantities on the internet, but not much cheaper. The juice should be available in the States, too.

It tastes quite good, much easier to drink than the Apple Vinegar which didn't nearly do as much for me as pommegranate juice apparently does.

Enjoy !

I will have to try this. I have found that eating about a cup of raw broccoli per day seems to make my T-levels explode.

In the study people drank 250 ml per day. Since it's expensive, I don't drink more than that.

What chemicals/mineral present do you think is responsible for the boost? This type of juice is pricey as hell and 250ml is a very small amount... you can achieve similar results with cheaper substitutes. But this is interesting I am gonna dig around to see what properties cause the boost.

I have now idea, I didn't dig deeper. All I know is that there is more research on the topic out there, from animal studies to studies on humans, with similar results.

Pommegranate has been treated as an aphrodisiac in the ancient times, maybe there were right.

And yeah, the juice is expensive as hell. I'm currently on job search and even 250ml a day is too expensive for me right now.

RE: Pomegranate juice raises testosterone levels
This is my mini-project for the afternoon between making music. I am going to look into this more. The reasons its so damn expensive is because its so labour intensive to extract that juice. But my guess is you could *maybe* get a way more potent dose of of its benefits for way cheaper just via the seeds. This would involve less labour and would mean more potent nutreints. But yea gotta dig around to see what properties are present, then see if they are concentrated when the seeds are sprouted (which is easy to do).

RE: Pomegranate juice raises testosterone levels
My hunch is that it is not one single but a combination of several substances in pommegranate that is responsible for this effect....but I don't know.

In Germany you can buy simple pommegranate juice or juice that also contains the juice of the seeds, the latter being even more expensive.

I just bough the simple juice.

I thought about buying the fruits and making the juice myself but it seems you don't really save much, if anything at all, by going down that route.

Regarding studies...here is one I quickly googled...

apparently Viagra/Cialis + Pommegranate resulted in priapism ( boner that won't go away) in 3 patients. Sounds funny but isn't, it's actually an emergency.

Don't try this at home
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles...ool=pubmed

This has got nothing to do with testosterone, though.

I'll give it a try. I like the taste of it. It is expensive though.

I've found a similar libido boosting effect by upping my protein intake and taking Apple Cider Vinegar.

Costco sells the POM brand in bulk. Can't remember the price, but it wasn't god-awful.

Never heard of pomegranate juice raising test levels, I have heard that the following herbs do: horny goat weed, fenugreek, and tongkat ali. Anyone use these and have anything to say about it?

Here's a comment, with a link to the original study:
Quote:First off, this study hasn't been published or peer reviewed so there is no way to actually validate the claims stated. Second, the abstract (linked below) from the conference this study was presented at makes no mention of increased testosterone levels. It simply states they found reduced cortisol levels which I assume someone made the leap that because released cortisol reduces testosterone then less cortisol must in turn mean more testosterone... not exactly how it works.

http://www.endocrine-abstracts.org/ea/00...25P139.htm

However I just got a 975ml bottle to try for around $6-7 dollars though, will report back. There's also some fancy concentrated essence stuff sold as a supplement that's really expensive. The fruit itself is cheap here, just not in season right now.

The person who commented referenced the wrong study.

This is the newer study on the effects on T levels.

http://www.endocrine-abstracts.org/ea/00...28P313.htm

Anyway... endocrinology is very complex. T levels depend on many variables, e.g. overall health, nutrition, mood, BMI, genetics etc...

Any specific brand or any old pomegranate juice will do? And where can you find it, Lidl, Penny, Edeka?

That study seems fairly legit.

I really wonder if the pills would work equally well. They're very cheap. I can't imagine much being missing from the pills that would be present in the juice. I can't find juice online for any decent prices. Best I can find is 1L for like $14.

I've read some reviews on the pom pills with no mentions of testosterone increases. Hmmm.

I bought mine at the "Reformhaus"....just try stores that offer "bio food" or upper class supermarkets. I haven't seen it at the cheaper chains like Aldi, Liddl etc.

Then, if you like it, order it on the internet for lower prices:

The brands I've tried so far were Rabenhorst and Voelkel. Didn't notice any differences.
