Anyone here ever worked as a tourguide/tour manager ?
I'm thinking about working as a tourguide/manager in some hot country, I prefer South America or South East Asia.
The pay is horrible. Tour operators in Holland only pay 4 hours a day and it's minimum wage which is like 30 dollars total a day. You have to be on standby 24/7 so if someone has a problem you have to solve it. It is clear that i won't be bringing money back to Holland.
Anyone here have experience showing people around on tours abroad?
If I get a job in some poor country then 30 dollar a day would be ok because a private room and money for food is provided for. A lot of hustling is involved to get tips and free meals/drinks of course.
30 bucks + free room and drinks/food is a way bigger budget than i used to travel on.
It's clear to me, this work is quite hard and i won't be bringing home the big bucks.
Positives:
- Living in a country on the cheap. Decent food and housing for free.
- a tourguide is a DHV for anyone in the group since you are the group leader + you're scoring points with the locals.
- You get to know the people in the places you go including the chicks. a honey in every town ??
- lots of hustling
- good development of social skills
- building a network
- sightseeing is free and even paid for but will soon be boring of course.
Negatives
- It pays bad
- A lot of hustling in a negative way
- having to entertain the same people for 2 or 3 weeks, even if you don't like them
- problem solving : people getting sick, lost, drunk, robbed, in a accident etc etc
- It's hard to bang a girl in a group. Some beta dude has a crush on a girl and the tourguide swoops her = negative comment to the main company = losing your job ?
- guys will be beta and/old. I mean alphas don't do group tours, only scared and lazy people do that.
Any feedback and /or thoughts on this would be highly appreciated, even if you didn't do this kind of work.

Not sure what you mean by little temper. What's that ? I had a few meltdowns and dirty tricks in my book now. Especially with taxi drivers
I'm actually pretty psyched now about a idea I had just before I went to salsa.
My idea would be to do a few tours as a guide and to write short 150 page books about it. I could write a new one with every tour or country. Sell that shit on kindle/ebook for 4 bucks and cash in on a whole series. Use a lot of flowery prose and a book is easily filled.
I could write when I have off time from work. All I have to do is bang a chick on the tour and some local girls and write up on the drama happening around it. Chicks would love to read dramatic stuff like that.
I can use the same cover as I use now with a slightly altered text on it.
This would be a niche on its own and I wouldn't be in Rooshes area of expertise so we don't take money out of each others pocket.
Good idea or what ?

RE: Anyone here ever worked as a tourguide/tour manager ?
Back in the old days I did a few tours with my old girlfriend because in the USA we only got 2-3 weeks for vacation and wanted to cover the most cities and sites in the shortest period of time.
Neil, I want to be clear about what you are talking about. Are you talking about taking Dutch tour groups to South America or SEA? Would you be flying down from Netherlands to these countries? If this is the case, then you need to consider how often you'll be back the same country in SEA. You have to go frequently and should be constantly doing the same route then you could build a harem of girls in different towns. If your company has you fly to Thailand once, then go to another country next and you only get back every 3 months you will lose some girls in between visits. 4 hours a day sounds low. I'm guessing you’re talking about picking up local tour guides to do the actual 4 to 8 hours of local tours the group usually goes on. You are right, you are always on call. Most of the men on the tours would be old and betas for sure. Most of the ladies would be old too. On the tours I did, there were usually only a few young people on any tour, I ever took. If you can actually get stationed in one country then, you'd have a lot of time with the locals.
Your best bet to if you want to get girls on the tour, is work for someone like Con-tiki or some British company that takes the college aged girls. This would be a total goldmine. These tours are 5 girls to every guy. You would definitely bang some of the girls. I don’t know if there any rules about the tour guide not banging the tour members, but you have to take your chances and if you got caught, you could be fired! Most girls will be quiet though or there may not be any rules about this. I did a grand tour of Europe when I was in college with a college tour group. I know one of the bus drivers banged a good looking college girl. On my tour, I was with 4 different girls and banged 2. One became my Girlfriend for second half of the trip. The Con-tiki Aussie and New Zealand girls had a lot of ugly girls, but I’m pretty particular. On Contiki only 4 girls out of 45 people were good looking or even fuckable. I’m guessing that is close to the fuckable ratio at hostels too.
I think it's a smart thing to do. The truth is pussy is better than money and most people spend too much time working to make money and don’t have enough time to get ass!

Thompson's basically in Puerto Rico as a reporter but he manages to get himself involved with the craziest characters having the craziest time. Work this angle as a tour guide and you could have yourself a bestseller.
Rum diaries. Noted. I'll have a look at it when I finish my current book.
Of course my books will be filled with crazy shit too. But it doesn't hurt to cater a bit to women since they buy twice as much books as guys and they are far more interested in romantic adventures of tourguides.
I met a French dude while on a amazon riverboat in Brazil who worked as a tourguide in Africa. He said he got laid all the time. Could be a bit of boasting but it's common knowledge that tourguides rank the same as bartenders. People look up to them.
Well, if you act the part of course. Be a colorful, buffed up,sun tanned, happy guy who is responsible for their safety and knows all ins and outs. Dress up like a laid back version of Indiana Jones
I would carry a massive Crocodile Dundee knife hahaha
It's a bit like a G lockdown. Every place you go you know people, shake hands left and right, slap some shoulders and introduce people to each other.
The locals of course like to see you since they make money of your group so they will treat you like a half-celebrity.
Ideas, opinions ??

Yep, i'm talking about Dutch groups on a holiday. I would be living in the country or fly there. I prefer living there because you can build a life there for the time being. I have no illusions that the job itself is difficult and people compare it to a higher management function since there's so much work involved. You get only paid for 4 hours per day. These are Dutch rules and I don't know the rules for other countries. One day you might work 2 or 3 hours and other days you might have to work a 12 hour day or wake up in the middle of the night if some one has a problem that needs to be fixed.
I heard both good things and bad things about contiki. Sure most of the people on group tours are older but there are always local girls too.
Yep, the whole making money first s only good if you can sustain it. Look at me, I used up all my money to travel for nearly three years and now i'm back to square one. I'm sitting behind my desk all day promoting my book and trying to find things to make money of instead of going out and gaming some chicks.
I don't need to have luxury but need chicks. I rather be a broke ass tourguide who's getting laid on the regular than sit in some office all day and have a two to four week vacation every year.
Sure 30 dollars a day is low but it's basically all spending money since you get food and housing for free. You can hustle free drinks too. My standard of living would be a lot higher than as a backpacker.
