In America, spanish is considered cheap language. 'I speak spanish too', 'oh yeah?' (nothing special)

If you speak french, you won't use it at all. however people will respond 'oh really' (looks at you little different)

I want to learn french because I just like how it sounds....of course I have a desire for french chicks too....

'America' as in United States?

Would love to hear an American speak Spanish without that gringo accent.

I dont speak frence... but Speaking spanish(not school spanish) has gotten me so much bangs. Honestly. I take my english game and act the same way, but not as articulate and it pays dividens(for me). Now my experience is limited to Puerto Rico, D.R. and MExico. But that will change soon. Just my thoughts. But I have seen how french speaking girls hunt for guys, and much more forward from my experience. So I ant imagine how being fluent in french wouldnt be like play the game in god mode.

It obviously depends on your personal situation, I learned French in school (compulsory in Canada) then became fluent by moving to France for a year in high school. I continued my studies in French and earned a BA in it, I was planning on becoming a French teacher or continue working for the federal government, where I worked part time throughout uni.

In my situation, as a Canadian, learning French was an advantage, but it ended up that I moved out west where speaking French isn`t so important. So now I`m not really using it much besides a few French speaking people I meet at work or while travelling. Speaking French has gotten me skin in different Canadian cities and while travelling, especially in France.

As for Spanish, I decided to learn it for travelling, as I plan on spending quite a bit of time in Latin America for years to come. I still have a lot to learn but to me, this seems like one of the best languages for a North American guy to learn so he can visit plenty of different unique places, close by.

EM: In your case, I`d focus on computer based home study and try to meet up once or twice a week with a native Spanish speaker to practice. And of course, continue your trips to Latin America!

Maybe what you mean is that in the US lot's of people speak Spanish as a first language, and quite a few as a second language so, it doesn't have novelty value there. Might be true, but I'm looking to learn French and Spanish so I can speak to people who use these languages, rather than impress people who can speak neither.

@Scotian:
That's one thing I love about Canada. Someone with a BA in French working "on the line" in the AB oil sands. Definitely lots of space to get out of your pigeon hole there. What is your opinion on French language skills of Canadians in general? I moved there after high school so never went through that process and therefore can't judge the effectiveness of high school language instruction there. If someone from English Canada, BC or AB say, goes through high school learning French how would you rate his ability after graduation?

Yeah, I didn't really get what the guy was talking about.

You learn languages to speak with people, not to impress people.

That being said, the amount of people that have learned Spanish as a second language in America is minimal.

And I am talking Miami and Southern California.

Not some two-bit places.

Roosh has a good post on this.
While tutors will help you, most of your progress will be on your own.
What helped me out a lot was to buy an old-school Rolodex and write vocabulary words on it.
