I got misty at both videos. I think I actually relate to both of them.

My father is now and always has been there for me. He's an incredible man and an absolute model in almost every way. That's why I can relate to the second one; I can see him doing the same exact thing for me.

But I can somewhat relate to the first because my father was also stricken with nearly fatal cancer when I was about 8. But, being the masculine, alpha badass that he is, he battled it and won. Chemo, radiation therapy, surgeries. He took it all on. And through that whole ordeal, I don't remember him skipping a beat as a dad. He worked as much as possible. He still showed up at sporting events and practices that my brother and I had. He still taught us the valuable life lessons. He still took care of my mother. It's one of the most incredible things for me to think about the dedication and selflessness he showed to his family when no one would have blamed him for just sleeping, resting, and going to his treatments and letting my mom and my brother and I hack it out until he got better. I'm sometimes caught with emotion when I think about what my life would look like today if he hadn't beat it and I had been forced to grow up without a father. I look up to him in so many ways.

I also get moved by the military movies. My brother just left active duty Marines and served several deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. Perhaps 10 of his good friends were killed over the course of the ~11 years he was in. It's hard not to put yourself in the situation where you are the one getting the phone call or the knock at the door so when you see or hear about those things, it really hits home. Incidentally, I've only seen my dad get teary eyed a few times in my life. The first was when he sat us down to tell us he had the cancer. The second was when he presented my brother with a big plaque with some moving military quotes on it when my brother got home for his most recent and final deployment. My parents' joy at having my brother finally home safely and without possibility of going back was really touching.

I don't think there is anything beta at all about being moved by protecting, guarding, mentoring, etc... your children and wanting the best for them. I think that's actually a pretty alpha quality, to want to have your offspring thrive. I also don't think there's anything beta about having lot of sentimentality towards your parents. And as mentioned in this thread, if you've found a quality woman who through the decades has served as a trustworthy wife and a caring mother to your children, I don't think there's anything beta in shedding a tear for her either.

On a related note, I think Will Smith is an incredible actor. My favorite movie of his has to be I Am Legend and this scene is a potential tear jerker for anyone who has ever had a beloved pet:

Oh and my dad's pretty useless. He paid for my education though and played tennis/squash with me, so we're good.

And he's had cancer too, and somewhat blamed me for not diagnosing him or something. The nerves on the guy eh?

the 2nd one with the hammy got me, the waterworks didn't start up but definitely stirred emotions. The soldier ones with kids like the one posted and the ones with them coming back to their dogs are the ones that get me the most. Animal stuff in general gets me.

The second one got to me.

My father and I haven't always had the best relationship. He never told me what life would be like, and I had to figure out a lot of shit on my own. Oh well.

Braveheart and Gladiator ALWAYS get me.

Just something about overwhelming displays of masculinity and fighting for what you believe in (even hollywood-ized versions) that stir me up.

The Green Mile is probably the only film that I can think of that makes me cry. I even cry at the good things like when he cures that woman's cancer.

I often get more choked up at really 'cool' stuff, or heroic stuff than at sad things. I actually get 'chills' to the point of almost tears in Terminator 2, when he walks down the corridor and gets hit with loads of bullets from the Swat team. I don't know why, but it's just the music and everything, I love it. Is it weird and geeky? Probably.

First one did zero.
Second one was admittedly moving yes, but no tears.

My relations with my dad are strained at best, and one of my biggest worries is that I will become just like him. I see myself doing the same things that he does, and I have to constantly call myself on it. This is also why I will not get married, because there is a very good chance that I would hurt my kids in the same way, and I would not wish that on anyone.

I've only seen one video that has caused me to burst out in tears and that is this (watch from start to end):





Everytime he goes into the "What do you do with the mad that you feel?" part, I just lose it. Even today. It strikes me that there will very likely not be another genuine person like Mr. Rogers for quite some time, if ever. Which is very sad.

Was watching this movie recently. First movie scene to get me misty eyed in years. Ironically I don't cry when relatives or friends have died. I have to pretend to cry to fit in. I am easy to cry [comparatively] when shit happens that can be changed or has real affect though.

Maybe it's because I'm from a family with many military members, but the "surprise homecoming" videos are emotional kryptonite to me.

Very moving stuff, and I'm completely unashamed to say that some of them bring genuine tears - not of sadness necessarily, but of overwhelming joy and understanding to see that someone you love has returned safely after a long time away.

That said, there are some very touching moments in this compilation...

Sometimes its almost frightening how much I agree with posters on here. Scent of a Women, Green Mile, Braveheart, the gladiator..those are pretty much my favourite movies. Ill add another one which was touchy, in Crash when they shot the Afgan boy outside the liquor store. Sport movies get to me as well, but cant remember ever actually crying though.
