Possibly moving to SA for a yr.
Ok so i might have to wait a year to start my masters degree and do my air force rotc program. So i figure if im going to have to waste a year im going to make it a damn good one. So i have come up with a plan to move to south america, prob buenos aires and try and get a job to be able to stay there for the year.

Now for anyone that might know, whats the best bet for going about getting a job there? I know a grl there and would have money to support my self for alittle while until i was able to get some sort of job.

How probable is this and any advise on this would be much appreciated. Also i would be open to living in another city if it is easier or more feasible.

I'd say start looking for freelance work in your field of study or something you have skills in right away, starting with people you know. Working and making money in SA is difficult, since jobs and work visas are hard to come by, especially for a year stay. Why not work for 6 months, living frugally and with family so your expenses are minimized, then travel for the other 6?

"Now for anyone that might know, whats the best bet for going about getting a job there?"

The issue with getting work in a foreign country is you get paid foreign wages. Plus, if a country has an unemployment problem, the chances of the hiring you are real slim.

You are way better off getting paid in dollars from a biz you can run while you are down there.

Although, I think Google has an office down there, you might want to try to get a job with them.

How much time do you have before you get down there? Maybe you have enough time to invest in a small online business and build it up to where you have some automatic income. Just throwing some ideas out there.

The tricky part is that anyone who is doing it well doesn't like to give up the data sheets.

For obvious reasons.

My advice is to find something that you enjoy and try to monetize.

You can find a way to buy and sell almost anything these days. You just have to promote it well and find a market.

RE: Possibly moving to SA for a yr.
I'm sure the path down this road is to think about things you may have some expertise in above and beyond the average person, or are particularly skilled at, then find a market of people willing to purchase that knowledge or skill. Sometimes even a specific knowledge in a niche area can yield rewards. Look at porn for example. There are entire porn sites dedicated to guys with foot fetishes or sex with obese midgets or whatever. Not that I'm saying start a porn site(the world doesn't need anymore porn sites!), but somebody saw all these weird niches in society that someone was willing to pay to see and they capitalized on it. I think if you have some imagination and business savvy, you can find under-served corners of society and market to them. Guys that are skilled with picking up women have made a killing training guys out in the field.

Another way perhaps is finding a product you can acquire cheaply and sell at a profit. Maybe you'll take a trip somewhere and find some village where they produce this amazing craft work that would sell for a lot in the U.S. but it sells for cheap there. You could then partner with these guys to sell to the U.S. market and you are the middle man. I think a lot of this stuff starts with just keeping your eyes open for opportunity and learning to think like a business person, and of course having some business savvy. Might want to read up on the principles of running business as a start.
