How is working as a Security guard like?
Soon as my exams are over, I'm gonna apply for full-time security positions, anyone know what it's like to work as a security guard?
I hear the pay is good, and the job isn't all that difficult, except for the fact that you gotta stay up all night.

RE: How is working as a Security guard like?
I couldn't think of more boring work, honestly. I considered putting in a resume at a local power plant once, and I even did something similar for a movie theater when I was in college (just prowling around the parking lot making sure no one broke into cars) - aside from when my gf would come by and bring me food or fool around her car, it sucked.

At this stage in my life, a security job would drive me nuts.

But a job is a job.

I worked as a security guard in Liverpool during summer hols. It was EXTREMELY boring. I had to manage a site with cement lorries and what have you.
It's alright, good to have a book or something to do while you kill those hours.

Just found out, I gotta pay 300 pounds for licencing, and then I can only start a job as a recruit, getting 7 pounds an hour, that is if I find something suitable.

Closest I've come is being a bouncer at a strip club and some regular clubs as well, which wasn't bad work and led to some nice bangs.

As a rather skinny man, I stand no chance as a bouncer.

Farking hell, London likes to rape people financially. I had to get a fake one off a bredrin down there. Fcuk paying for licensing. It's just additional way to line up Lizzie's pockets. What about doing construction work, last time I knew, they were paying 50 quid a day cash in hand.

One of my regulars used to be a security guard, she said all she had to do was sit around her entire shift and had to put in reports for the dumbest shit, ie. if a door is open or unlocked you have to do a site scan then put in a report.

RE: How is working as a Security guard like?
I've never worked a security job but have been friends with a number of fellows that have. As I understand, it's a pretty boring job, 95% of which is downtime. If you can entertain yourself on the clock it's a breezy paycheck.

Keeping occupied should be easy in the modern era of smartphones.

Dull. I did it one summer over thirty years ago and I doubt things have changed much. I was working as a guard at an auto plant (wrecking ball) and was supposed to make several tours through the place every evening. Christ, it was creepy in that place.

RE: How is working as a Security guard like?
It all depends on where you work and what shift you work. You will either be standing up or sitting down or a mix of both during your entire shift. You could be a lone security guard or part of a team. The busiest (and least boring) shift will be an 8am-5pm or any other variation of a morning shift. You will be interacting with a lot of people during this shift and more will be expected of you. Other shifts that lean towards evening and nights you will have less and less work and people to deal with. If you want an easier gig with barely any work try landing a job working evenings or nights in an office building or patrolling some sort of complex. Either people are leaving or will be gone during your shift so you dont have to deal with too much bs if any at all. If you like a little more action try a hospital or medical facility at any any shift (be warned, bs levels are high everywhere in such places and inter office politics go through the roof). A few more things you should consider.....

Working in hospitals or med facilities makes you feel more like a cop due to responding to certain emergencies, codes, unruly patients/visitors/staff etc. Another thing to consider is if you want to be armed or unarmed. Armed guards get more money but usually have a lot more responsibility. Licensing is also involved to get the gun. Not really worth it in my opinion. Also find out how long the license is good for and when you have to renew it should you exceed the limit. In summary if you want to get into law enforcement a security job is a good way to start. If you have any other questions send me a private email.

I'd go the TSA route if you're in the US. I worked with the TSA full time while I got my degree. Plenty of opportunities available once you get in the government.

My cousin use to do it.

The wage in AUS is $20/hr

Less than a door bouncer, but you dont get stabbed or spat on

U may well die of boredom, but that might well suit u?

Yea 50 pounds for an 8 hour day but this was time ago. Maybe it's more now maybe it's less. Since the EE was made part of the EU, I'm sure a lot of Slovaks have come over to swallow up those labour jobs so the rates might be lower now.

I have a friend doing it while going through school. He doesn't enjoy it.
