Tanning
Juicingformen.com has a post about how juicing can give your skin that tan glow.

I've also been wondering about tanning lately. I'm very fair-skinned, but have quite dark hair, so by the end of winter I look like death. Being tan raises my looks by at least 1 if not 2 points. Note: I live at longitude 55 degress North.

But I also have a lot of moles, and have gotten quite a few all over my chest and back (I'd say a density of one every 2-3 square inches), and I really got burnt a lot in Southern California, Central America Brazil a few years back. My sister has the same skin type as I have, very pale, but can get really dark. She's a book-worm, however... so because she stayed inside all the time, she's got very few moles. So while the damage is done already, I'm also interested in avoiding past mistakes.

The chances of me developing skin cancer in life are probably well-above average, so I make sure to check annually with the doctor, although I doubt I'll start seeing problems till my 40's.

So to the question:

1) What can I do to get a healthier, more colorful look without causing more unecessary damage. For instance is a a mild fake-bake once or twice a week recommended?

2) Is there anything I can do about the high number of moles I have?

3) Other advice, considerations, tips, health benefits.

A year from now you'll wish you started today

research melanotan I and melanotan II.... injectable peptides that make your skin think you are getting lots of sun so you get dark, fast.

@ElJefe

I am also in the same boat as you, fair skinned with tons of moles...

I fake and bake once a week maybe twice a week every once in awhile, used to go more often when I was younger.

I would def also like to know some more options from people in the know on this subject.

I have read a little about melanotan, just seems a little weird to be injecting yourself to tan your skin...also have seen some before and after pictures of people that have used it, and it can turn you pretty much black.

RE: Tanning
You only have 3 options:

1) tanning beds or lounge chairs in the sun
2) injectable tans
3) spray tans

take your pick.

RE: Tanning
I am light skinned asian but I can maintain bit dark skin by going to tanning salon maybe 10 times a year.

women needs to go more since they show more skin.

as a man, you don't have many chance to show enough skin except hot days in summer.

obviously tanning is bad and you might notice the effect when you get older.
(have you seen fitness chicks with nice tanning all over but her face is ew?)

go tanning maybe once a month and use bronzer to keep the tanning on your face.
I like Jergens natural glow. I haven't noticed any orange look effect.

RE: Tanning
Tomato Juice. is your answer.

I have a sheet on it here: Tomatoes

Tomato Juice is high in Lycopene which is crazy good for your skin. To the point if your diet is really high in Lycopene you will start to rarely if not ever get sunburn again (You can use tomato paste as sunscreen it is that potent).

Mediterranean diets are high in foods rich in Lycopene and thus people from lets say Italy or Greece can take a lot more sun then your potato eating Irishman.

Skin care starts from whiten. The shit is dead on the surface all the hard work has to be done internally via diet (These types of supplements are overpriced, way cheaper and more tasty to eat them then to pop them in pill form).

Up your intake of tomatoes easily via Tomato juice, Canned Tomatoes, Tomato paste. Eat the stuff daily. I drink a glass or two of Tomato Juice per day its a treat for me I drink V8 Low Sodium or I make it myself with Tomato paste. This thorough diet that is heavy in cooked tomatoes with other beneficial Anti-oxidants such as Vitamin E (almonds), will show you benefits quite quickly (I think the body makes a 'new' layer of skin in 6 weeks?) and in time you will see your skin become more supple, healthy looking and will hold and take sun/tanning a lot better.

RE: Tanning
So thats what it was! About a year ago my skin was in A+ shape and I've been trying to figure out what part of my diet it was (my excercise was about the same) but I was drinking tomato and vegetable juice daily and bringing home a basket of tomatoes every week from the farmers market because they were in season.

Interesting guide on tomatoes, kosko. I'll try making some tomato juice and see if you can also buy that stuff around here.

RE: Tanning
I own a tanning salon and while some beds may increase cancer the newer ones that you can use definitely will reduce the risk of the skin cancer.

Couple things to look for before tanning. Use beds that emit higher rates of UVBs. UVBs do not penetrate deep into the skin like UVAs do. You will tan quicker and don't have to worry about the UV's penetrating deep into the body which causes wrinkles and aging. Also probably even more important is to stay away from electromagnetic fields (emf). A lot of the beds use EMF ballasts. If you here a loud buzzing when tanning then you are probably getting a healthy dose of EMF. Use beds with only electronic ballasts.

To me the jury is still out even if the old beds cause cancer. Also the idea that the sun causes cancer is laughable to me. I have never read of people dieing off in mass because of skin cancer thousands of years ago when they spent all day in the sun with less clothing and far less shelter. Not to mention there are plenty of cultures around the world that spend far more time in the sun than Americans and skin cancer is non existant in those countries. And they sure as hell don't use suntan lotion.

Without getting off into conspiracies of what is probably causing the skin cancer epidemic in the US, I think people should be looking elsewhere than the sun and tanning beds

I mystic tan once a week. No harm like from traditional tanning beds, and at least on me, the glow looks better than that from a real tan.

I think a good tan helps a lot, ESPECIALLY with bodybuilding. I relax a little bit with the tanning since its freezing cold here (nyc), but in the spring I might get a fake tan here or there.

I want to try a spray tan, never tried it before....

I've been thinking about this topic all week. I spent the last 12 years in warm beach towns and now I'm in DC and the whitest I've been in, well, 12 years. I'm going to give the tomato juice a try before I hit a tanning bed. I'll let you know if I see results in a few weeks.

Screw tanning. I'd rather be pale and not have skin cancer.

RE: Tanning
the problem with getting no sun is vitamin d deficiency -> cancer. i think responsible tanning without getting sunburns is a health benefit. i would use natural light spectrum only, most tanning salons do not have devices like this

In Australia sunbeds are in the process of being phased out in most states. I use them sparingly, I might give tomatoe juice a try. Have also heard overuse of sunscreens could be the real culprit and that sunbedding is being used as a scapegoat. Melanotan is likely to get very popular when the ban takes effect. Again the jury is still out regarding Melanotan. Spraytanning and light sunbedding is probably the best option for me at the moment.

ElJefe, I haven't followed JfM, but I do know that eating lots of carrots gives your skin an orange tint. It's called carotenemia - you might benefit from getting a very mild version of this. It might take awhile to have an effect, so don't start drinking a gallon of carrot juice daily.

Carotenemia:

BUMP:

I've been walking around lots and I've gone from moderately pale to chochemonger level lightskinned latino.

Thing is I've got a shitty farmers tan already.

I don't want to get super dark and I tan really easily. How can I ensure an even tan without hitting the tanning beds. (walk around shirtless is a duh, but I'll be shirted more than shirtless).

Do you guys use sunscreen (I don't need tanning oil because I could sit out all day and look like the great IRT) I don't want to get a burn (although it takes me hours in the sun to get a burn).

Anyone want to drop a datasheet on tanning?

As the guys wrote, do some research on Melanotan. I can't get it cause I live in a shithole, but I heard it's effective. Just know your dose, the "latino" tan should be the final goal.

You should however watch your diet. I've seen people on 4chan's /fit/ having a shitty diet and ending up like roasted guidos. Lots of water, try some juicing, take zink, high protein overall.
