Spanish or Portuguese first ( for Latam)
Hi all
So I made the decision to learn Portuguese first, although the former is more widely spoken, more useful, more good for business, more easier to learn with more resources etc.

And the reason is this.( bear in mind I come from living in london( not a town in us mid west), probably the most diverse and global city in the western world)

I wanna learn the language while living and settling down in the country for a long time. ( not just a tourist for few months) I have the basics of the language, but need to improve it living in the country.. However, as I am also concerned about other things, living conditions, social circle, jobs, etc, the place needs to be of cosmopolitan character, so it has some jobs for career purposes or a good environment for business, ( ya going to a village in Bolivia will help you learn Spanish and integrate with locals, but you will likely sacrifice your career prospects as compared to living in sao palo or Mexico City.plus, you might also get bored.
So I found in Spanish speaking Latam doesn't really have any good city that I want to live and settle down in, with the exception of Mexico df, but even then, I would choose sp or rio in a heart beat.. So here is the list

Lima : bad foggy weather, but big enough for jobs though. And on the coast, I love surfing
BA- everyone saying girls difficult there and mentally retarded and immature, not to bother
Santiago- ugly chicks, although a lot of highly paid jobs in the corporate sector, some business opportunities if you wanna start a business, good business environment, most advanced country probably
Bogota- shitty cold weather all year round. 6 to 16 degrees c, city is dirty,
Cali- size too small, not many jobs, not cosmopolitan enough, although nice small city
Caracas, too dangerous, some jobs if you work in oil
Quito - probably worse than Lima in terms of everything
La Paz - too poor , ugly chicks,

The above list has pros and cons each, some have beautiful women, but are too poor, dirty and lack jobs, some are the other way around, some have good nature, ie close to sea, or has a beach

Only city I can think of to live is Mexico City df, it's international, a lot of things going on, nice weather, close to us, ok chicks, some highly paid jobs, etc

So although you got so many countries that speak Spanish, there is few that I wanna live and settle down in.the list makes me wonder why the Spanish chose such poor locations for their economic hubs in Lata, I mean look at bogota( at 2500m) whereas Portuguese chose good locations, look at rioSmile)

Bogota was chosen by the Spanish because it is a massive plain of flatlands that is fertile. And they came accross it when they were on the hunt for El Dorado.

Also I don't think the Spanish took surfing or job opportunities into consideration when choosing their city.

Your post is confusing because you say you made the decision to learn Portuguese, but all the locations you listed are Spanish speaking ones.

To the OP: can you rewrite your original post below so we can get a better idea of exactly what it is you're asking?
