Scotian, if you do cross into Ecuador by land, I suggest getting the hell out of the border town Tulcan ASAP. It's overpriced and dodgy as fuck. Just get your stamp and keep moving on towards Quito.

Be prepared to see a different Colombia in Pasto, a shitload of ugly native girls there.Also everyone will attack you with foam and people will ask to take pictures with you. The carnaval is pretty nice though.

Dont worry about border safety, been through plentz of times, no problems. Watch out with the money changers at the border though.

Quito is a pretty cool city for what it's worth. Cool Historico Centro. Dirty as hell though; never been in a city of that relative size that is more polluted than that place.
