Jaylow may be talking about sublets. Often students are desperate to sublet and offer substantial discounts in the summer as there are so many sudden vacancies and far less new-entrants. I have no idea as to the prices in Montreal but that could lead to heavily discounted prices and would explain the "fully furnished" claim.

ESL jobs usually are much less stressful and time consuming than "real jobs" so one would have ample time to explore other opportunities - namely, importing luxury/branded products in China - as well as exporting products out of China

3. Set goal of moving out of ESL in 6-12 months and transitioning full time into entrepreneurship

With time, the import operation (or other business ventures) would become profitable enough to replace the full time job

If a young guy were to try this out for a year and fail miserably, the worst thing that would happen is that he'd break even and have a year's worth of international entrepreneurship experience.

You can replace China in this example with any SE Asian country, Colombia, Peru, Angola, etc etc.

My two cents.

I think hundreds of thousands of lost and jobless Gen Y graduates could follow this exact formula in a vast range of countries abroad and succeed - including, but not limited to:

-China
-Indonesia
-Malaysia
-Thailand
-Vietnam
-Colombia
-Peru
-Mexico
-Brazil

It doesn't have to all be import/export either. There are endless blue ocean opportunities in ecommerce and the internet space in many of these markets.

My two cents. Take it with a grain of salt.

Also in a similar situation, just graduating at the end of April. Going to go down to Alberta to make some money and take things from there. Seems like the best option if you are unsure. Worst case scenario you are a bit richer without losing that many other opportunities.

Alright I think I'm slightly younger than you and will be at this crossroads pretty soon, here's my plan.

First off I'd like to recommend in buying commercial real estate. Your young and already have 10k which may be enough to buy a property with 4-5 units which is a prime starter building. This would A) enable you to move out, B) Live rent free for as long as you want and C) Give you a steady option of Semi Location dependent Income for the rest of your life. If It's something people would want I can drop a data sheet on how to purchase your first Income Property at a young age and how to manage the properties as well.

10k Would probably be enough to get started here although you'd probably have to buy a fixer-upper, get a good rate on a mortgage and Find a grant or business loan which isn't that hard.

Secondly, after you've finished getting your property up and running take some time to travel. Hire a Superintendent to manage the building while your away and have him deposit the money into a business bank account the first of each month. I wouldn't recommend being away for more than 2 months at a time when your first starting out. Once you find a good super I wouldn't really worry that much but try and keep the travel light while your beginning.

Like everyone else is saying take advantage of the current incomes out western Canada while you can. Save money to set yourself in a good spot financially. Ill be out in Alberta this summer as well if I'm not staying in Halifax. Either one is a viable option and shoot me a message if you ever want to meet up.

Im just going at my own pace and checking ads 1 or 2 times a day like I usually do instead of investing time for Mr G. Ive been looking 2 weeks straight, I know whats out there.
