Most teachers have no incentive to be a better teacher. All they have to do is the bare minimum and teach the test and get an easy pay check with little possibility of being fired.

+1. Teachers cannot be original or risk pissing off one or two students and getting fired. All teachers are paid to do is be babysitters, really.

Most kids don't want to learn. All the teachers I had were glad to help if I wanted to come early for tutoring but I didn't give a fuck. Even the ones in alternative school would help me as much as they could if asked for it. I don't understand why people are supporting this Jeff Spicoli like wigger. Teaching must be one hell of a job and there's no way you're gonna be able to "touch every kid's heart" if they don't want you to. It's always people who have a long history of shitty parents in their family tree that expect the teachers to be a babysitter, teacher, psychiatrist, etc. Go to school, do your work, learn what you have to and get A's. Learn real shit outside of school from your parents and family.

The ability of teachers to determine future student outcomes is greatly overrated.

I suppose it's more soothing for the PC public to believe that all children are able to become particle physicists or tech entrepreneurs, and only need the right schools and/or teachers, instead of accepting that some children are just dumb and/or lazy and others smart and/or hard-working.

It's easy to repeat a bunch of generic platitudes from a Michelle Pfiffer or Meg Ryan movie and put all the responsibility for a broken-ass system on one teacher who's probably just doing her best with a fucked up situation. She's expected to be all Dead Poets Society in there just because that's what will keep his distractable-ass engaged, yet she's paid shit, is overloaded with bullshit work, and has no power to enforce an orderly classroom because she'll get in trouble. Fuck. That. Shit.

I can't believe we've come to a point where a slacker, high-school dropout, who looks like one of the bullies on the Simpsons, can make unsupported complaints and disrespect the classroom on a cellphone video and be granted enough credibility to be put on the news.

I wish 100 percent of teachers walked off of the job.

I admire the fact the teachers can tolerate half the shit that goes on in schools today. The media themselves apparently now are justifying the broken education system that exists in this country. How the fuck does that simple looking fuck get a minute of air time is beyond me.

The real problem is that the US education system is a joke. Teachers ARE babysitters because they have very little of value to teach. Their job is to give students mind numbing busy work and ensure that they pass tests with zero real world value.

I do agree with the kid though. Most of my teachers were complete dipshits who were just there for the paycheck.

The entire US education system is in desperate need of an overhaul.
