All of this stuff is interesting, but also bound to look pretty hideous when you get past 50 and your skin begins wrinkling. Or do tattooing techniques somehow prevent that?

RE: Badass tattoos
Just to clarify, tattoos are acceptable if you are a biker, sailor, armed forces, rocker, badass, yakuza, gang member or pro athlete.

Other ridiculous arguments you might agree with:

- Tattoos are marks of personality disorder.

- Low self-esteem, lack of self-control, sadomasochism, bondage, fetishism, bisexuality, antisocial personality, mania and bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia are reflected in tattoos.

- Very serious studies have linked tattoos to homosexuality, lesbianism and gross sexual perversion.

- Tattoos have always reflected a note of marked deviancy and propensity for criminal behavior

- Tattoos carry a streak of aggression and anti-establishmentarianism and are subversive of morality.

- Tattoos have nothing to do with fashion, self-expression, free will, artistic freedom or reminders of spiritual/cultural traditions, but rather they're sinister signs of growing mental disarray into modern society.

- Ect

Nah, I just want a badass tattoo so everyone can see how badass I am.

Can anyone tell me what would be a badass tattoo? Perhaps post a picture of a badass tattoo so I can show it to the tattoo guy...

Tattoos (in western culture) are for men whose livelihood puts their actual lives on the line and/or are members of a brotherhood.

Sailors, soldiers, cops/firemen, underworld, etc.

And, of course, pirates.

Don't forget that tattoos make it easier for the police (and people who would rat you out to them) to ID you. Not that you're breaking laws, but it's one more consideration to add to the many above.

RE: Badass tattoos
My brother has the most retarded tattoos of anyone I know, he started out with a Pantera CFH tattoo which was cool but the he got the world "alcohol" tattooed in old English letters on his forearm. Since then some of his gems include a big weed leaf on his arm, a pregnant chick holding a bottle of rum and a handful of cards with the words "a man's ruin" on his arm, tons of skulls, etc. The best ones he has are on his calves though, on one is the movie character Ernest (from Ernest Goes to camp) and on the other is Tommy Chong.

God damned them all, I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold, we'd fire no guns-shed no tears, now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers!

Very true! I've never been to jail in my life, but then again I can't speak for the future. There is another major issue, it's allergy, they say it's really rare, but I'm allergic to a lot of things, so I need to make sure that I'm not allergic to the ink.

RE: Badass tattoos
The only tattoo that I find cool is Oliver Reed's. Apparently, he had eagle claws tatted on his cock and was fond of showing them off.

Hector 'Macho' Camacho also apparently had a unicorn's head on his tip.

There's definitely potential in this conversation:

"Wanna see my tattoo?"

"Sure."

[unzips]

There's a huge downside in that it's really going to hurt and that your member will need time to heal.

So basically, don't do it.

RE: Badass tattoos
germanico that is absolutely hilarious.

Alberto,

If you want one, get one. Just make sure it's something you really like. Most artists will put in a lot of effort into making something sweet for you all you have to do is give them something to work with. They want your biz and they take pride in their work. I recently got my first and am very glad I did. Dude took my kind of cool concept and morphed it into awesomeness.

If you don't like what the artist draws up for you don't feel like you have to go through with it. Be 100% about it.

RE: Badass tattoos
Get a tattoo if you want to, if you like it, who cares what anybody else thinks. Sure guys have a point that there are a lot of people who destroy their bodies with tattoos, a lot of cheesy/lame/ugly tattoos, and it's fucking lame that tattoos have become too trendy in modern culture/society. That said, it's almost become cool or trendy to hate on tattoos, that's something else I've noticed with people who don't have them.

I got a tattoo that I kind of regret, I was 15, snuck away from my parent on our family trip in Turkey, hit a tattoo parlor and chose a tribal style arm band out of their design book. Would I ever get that tattoo or do something like that now? Hell fucking no. But, you know what such is life (c'est la vie), I really don't sweat it though, I've gotten other much sicker and meaningful tattoos since then. It's a part of my body now, and it represent a time and experience in my life. However, I got the tattoo for the wrong reason, I thought it looked "cool", I thought my high school thug peers who already had tattoos were, "cool", "tough", "badass", etc. I wanted to get one too for all those lame reasons.

That's the point, the tattoo becomes a part of you and you carry it with you until you die, or get it removed from expensive painful laser surgery. Get something that is meaningful to you that you truly want or care about. When you do get it you got to not give a fuck what anyone else, but you thinks about it. Ultimately your opinion is the only one that matters, but keep in mind some tattoos especially public ones on hands, neck, etc., will affect people perceptions of you, and could make getting a job that much harder. THings to think about and take into consideration.

Also not all tattoo artists are equal, find one that is the shit, pay the money, make an appointment, and wait months if you have to, my artist in S.F. has like a 3-4 month long waiting list, that's how good he is, booked months in advance.
