photography is an amazing opportunity for a man to meet really pretty girls and add value to their lives by taking great pictures of them. it's not that expensive either. that's why a lot of men get into photography, obviously, to be around pretty girls, but how do you actually get them in bed? well, i have a method i have been working on for several years that i am ready to share.

my simple method has nine easy steps:

1. stick to b/w photography. it's easier to learn, and more "artistic." that's a win win. color photography is HARD. trust me.

2. stick to natural lighting. artificial lighting is more expensive, and easier to fuck up. another win win. oh, and say to the girl that you "only work with natural light" with slight arrogance, and she will believe that you are a true artist. that's a triple win.

3. stick to portraits. don't do anything that could be interpreted as sleazy by doing lingerie or whatever. trust me on this too. would you rather see her in her underwear, or date her and sleep with her? another win.

4. practice b/w natural light pictures by taking pictures of vegetables and fruit. seriously. look up edward weston's peppers. so sensual and gorgeous. taking pictures of vegetables with natural light will teach you how to see the beauty of light and shadow. remember, photography is first and foremost about capturing light. learn to see light, and then learn how to make her comfortable in front of the camera, and you are halfway home.

5. oh yeah, get a basic nikon or canon with prime standard lens and a portrait lens -- email me for details if you want -- and be grateful that thanks to the miracle of technology, amazing DLSR cameras are pretty damn affordable.

6. start by taking pictures of your cute or ugly female friends, or if you have slightly more cash, get on model mayhem and pay some experienced models to work with you. just tell them you are starting out and they will be nice. girls don't bite, especially if they are paid.

7. once you have enough experience, post a casting call on model mayhem for TFP portraits -- time for print, nobody pays nobody -- and now is when you start meeting the girls you want to meet. oh yeah, all you need is a white wall and a window and a stool, and again, the "artistic arrogance" that you only work with natural light. schedule the shoot for several hours, starting in the afternoon (after lunch).

8. how to make her comfortable in front of the camera? joke around. be professional. again, BE PROFESSIONAL. wear a blazer. wear dress shoes. tease her a bit, use all your game skills, but don't overdo it. in fact, tell her she looks beautiful. encourage her. praise her. tell her how to pose. girls love that. you can give off a slightly sexual vibe, but no touching, just be a man, enjoy her, but respect her. BE PROFESSIONAL. show her the pics as you go along (if they're good), that will encourage her and build momentum and trust.

9. okay, so here's the simple, final twist that finally worked for me: BE PROFESSIONAL and then when the shoot is done, and it's evening by now, say, "i really enjoyed working with you. you did amazing. to thank you, i would like to invite you out for a drink." do this in a very polite, respectful way -- be the opposite of all the sleazy photographers she has undoubtedly met before -- and if you can get her to go out with you for an "instadate", that night or even on another night, then you have yourself a date with a really pretty girl that you picked out yourself.

that's it.

so the quick background on how i got to my theory: i did dozens of photo shoots where i tried being more sexual and touchy feely, and it created the wrong frame of me chasing her, and although she would enjoy the attention, eventually she would shut down, or at least be on guard to my advances. by being VERY PROFESSIONAL and RESPECTFUL, you create a situation where the girl is curious and also doubtful -- is he going to hit on me? is he attracted to me? she is suspended between hope and doubt. it helps to really know what you are doing -- practice! learn! -- and also to dress really well.

so yeah, i did dozens of photo shoots the more "predictable" way, and got nothing. barely a kiss. and then actually a friend of mine, not a photographer, suggested, hey, why not be just really professional, and make it a "two step" process. instead of trying to hook up with her during the shoot, just be professional, and ask her out in a polite way once the shoot is done.

bam!

i have done five shoots this way, and i slept with one beautiful girl, and almost slept with another. admittedly, it's a small sample size, but i can really see this method working long term. it just feels right. it makes sense. and so far, it works.

i didn't want to wait to write this post, because it takes months or years to become a great photographer, and so if you want to try this method, it's best to start right away. i am going to keep track of my own progress, and see how my method develops over time, but i am excited and confident about this basic structure.

Photographers can absolutely slay it with models.

I have some close friends, a couple who are relatively famous among the fashion world and they pull ass on a very high level.

A tip one of them told me about was if a model was having trouble hitting the 'zone', he offers her a shot of alcohol. He does it in a playful manner and 9/10 times they are all about it.

He prefaces it with, "Just one shot, this isn't a party". One shot to a thin girl can get her on her way to buzzing and it loosens them up.

The other angle he does is shoot alot in the evening right before the sun goes down. It's no shock that girls feel more free/loose in the evening under the cloak of darkness. He shoots them, then says, 'Let's grab a drink, I need one after this shoot'. Works for him.

Awesome stuff Rivelino (great nick btw! what a player he was!). +1 from me as well! I've always been curious about photography and after reading this, I'm def getting into it. What good camera would you recommend for a beginner photographer?

Also, do you prepare the girl yourself in terms of make up/clothing? or you tell them what to wear/bring?

Just an idea, but another technique to try to separate from the crowd of photographers who are obviously just trying to bang these girls is having multiple models or a female "assistant" present who is just a friend willing to help you out to make the girls feel more comfortable. Or meeting/shooting at a public place, then heading to your "studio".

I guess the general theme here is to only use the photography as a means to set something else up later/instadate. It might up the notch count/consistency.

hey bonedaddy, i read through that other thread, there's some great information on that thread, some great points, but also i think people are overcomplicating things. some of my quick thoughts:

1. it's true, a "real" shoot is exhausting and hard work, but it is also FUN.

2. nobody talks about just using natural light in that other thread. why not? natural light is incredibly beautiful. you just need to learn how to see it and use it. a window with a semi transparent curtain -- or even with no curtain -- is stunningly beautiful light. or even outdoor, in the shade. soft lighting is what you are looking for. "harsh" lighting can be more dramatic, but when you are starting out, it's much harder to control, easier to fuck up.

3. i realize that shooting a girl with tons of equipment helps create that aura of power, status, and expertise, but it's also expensive as shit, takes time to learn, can be confusing, and is easy to fuck up. again, NATURAL LIGHT AND A GOOD EYE, much better, much easier, it just take self confidence and practice to learn to see beautiful light, and to make the girl feel comfortable and relaxed.

4. and yeah, fake it till you make it applies here too. telling a girl, "i only work in natural light, and only shoot b/w", that shit goes a long way to getting her to believe your story, to fall into your frame, to submit to your reality as an "artist". also, having a few reference books by the masters also helps. show her a richard avedon book and she will believe that you are the real deal.

5. yeah, having an assistant, a makeup artist, and a hair person, all that shit helps, but damn, if you're a beginner, again, that shit is A LOT of work, difficult to coordinate, etc etc. just tell the girl to look pretty, that you want a natural look, tell her to wear jeans and a tank top, and you're off to the races.

6. if there is ONE thing i will recommend, though, as far as equipment, it's a fixed portrait lens. about 135mm for a full frame DSLR or 85mm for a dx/cropped frame dslr, that's what i like. why? because it is much easier to create that BLURRED BACKGROUND EFFECT -- a nice "shortcut" for professional looking, artistic looking photographs -- with a portrait lens. you can get the same effect with a zoom lens, even a kit zoom lens, but a fixed portrait lens simply works better (in particular, it works better in lower light). if you have the money, that is. if not, a kit zoom lens can work too. my overall point is, go for that blurred effect, which you get easiest when you are shooting her at 85mm or 135mm or so.

7. wreckingball, for basic equipment for a newbie, i would honestly start with a used nikon d40. i had a nikon d40 for several years, and it took some damn good pictures. you can get a quality used one for about $300-$350:

the only thing, it seems to come with a zoom lens that is 18mm-55mm. you don't want that. for portraits, you want a zoom lens that is 55-200. okay, here it is, i found it:

i had this lens, works good enough. $250. so for under $600 you have all that you need. and i am sure you can find that 55-200mm lens used for maybe $150 or maybe less.

8. trust me on this stuff guys, i have been shooting for over five years, and i did TONS of research, and made MANY mistakes, and i have learned so much about taking great pics, you can learn much faster by just believing me and not making the mistakes i made, buying unnecessary equipment like i did, etc.

9. after the d40, nikon came out with the d5000, and then the d5100, and i think now the d5200, and also the d3100, i don't have time to do all the research to figure out what they've been up to, but you simply can't go wrong with any of these. i would just start cheap, and used, so you don't invest too much on something if you aren't sure you are going to love it. again, the d40 is all that you need. i know some professional photographers hate ken rockwell -- he is definitely off about some things -- but about the d40 he is right on. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40.htm

10. as for my equipment, i started with the d40, then got the d7000, and then i switched and went canon with their high end canon 5d mark iii. the canon 5d is better obviously, but it is over $3000. the d40 is a beautiful little thing, and good enough for a beginner. in fact, it's GREAT. my point is, you don't need a super expensive camera to take great pictures and meet pretty girls.

11. oh yeah, and i know all about terry richardson and his point and shoot cameras, and about the iphone, and how iphone pics are hanging in museums, etc., and i believe all that stuff, but when you are starting out, again, the d40 is better, or any other DSLR. you want to learn about the basics of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. the iphone is way too slow, and the p&s cameras don't give you that blurred background that you want.

12. alright, so this has been a rambling update, but i hope it all made sense. my tl/dr advice:

-keep it simple
-use simple, but specific, equipment, as recommended by me, who has done all the research and trial and error for you
-buy used equipment initially to see if you actually ENJOY taking pictures and have a knack for it
-learn to see light
-don't overcomplicate things, it's supposed to be FUN

13. life is beautiful, girls are beautiful, digital cameras are affordable and take beautiful pictures, give it a shot! it could be a great addition to your life.

Good point on the d40. I've had mine for about 5 years, travelled all over the world with it, bashed it about on some rough trips and it's always delivered excellent quality photos even with the stock lens. Best investment I ever made in regards to my travels.

This is a great thread. Photography game is one of the few niche ideas I am genuinely interested in trying and willing to spend some time learning. Even putting aside bangs, what could be a better way to spend your days than hanging out and photographing attractive women? If you want to bang models you have to hang out with models.

There is a browse function on the site, I went through it one time when I was looking for an actress with a certain look. It has a lot of models and from all over the world. Even without signing up you can search and the models indicate whether they require compensation or not, nude, and you look at all their pics. Pretty good resource!

Some of them want to be actresses, I was looking for a real thin pale brunette for something I wanted to shoot. It didn't work out.

A good way to meet actresses is if you have a short or film you want to shoot and you can do a casting call. Some places I think let you use the facility for free if you give feedback on the actors. Paying gigs will attract the most talent. But you could conduct a casting and not select anyone but you have contact info now and headshots. Some might not appreciate being contacted after a casting call for something other than the shoot and you might start getting commented on negatively on the internet. Seen a few on the CL LA gigs section people complaining about certain producers, etc.

On CL there are always people posting gigs. Sometimes you see an actor dropped out last minute and they need someone. So I think you could do something with CL.

I think once you have a portfolio, you would have credibility. I think rivelino had a good point about maybe paying a few while you learn.

rivelino, what is the rate you usually pay for models? I get everything is negotiable. Thanks.

1. vorkuta, yeah i use model mayhem. it's easy to join. like the other thread says, you just need to show them 3-5 pics, and you are allowed to join. i was living in nyc at the time, took a couple of photo classes with models, and boom, there i had my three pics. but i was also much more shy back then, and was too nervous to ask any female friends to sit for me for portraits, for practice. classes are great though, any classes. photography is not a subject that is taught very well, in my opinion. i suspect that something like piano or tennis or even salsa can be and is taught in a much more linear, systematic way. i've taken about five photo classes, and read a bunch of books and essays, and had to piece my learning from a bunch of disparate sources. some classes are great, some suck, some books are great, some suck, you get the idea.

2. but yeah, model mayhem is a great way to start. there are literally i think thousands or tens of thousands of girls signed up worldwide. i have shot girls in america and europe using model mayhem. like i said in the first post, it could be a good idea to just pay an experienced model when you are still learning, and just practice with her. they aren't that expensive. you negotiate a girl down from her asking price. that's what i did when i started. i think you can do a clothed photo shoot for 2 hours for maybe $50 or $100 bucks? maybe more, maybe less. i mean, it would be better to start off with a pretty friend who wants pictures, or to find an actress on craigslist who is also just starting out, and do TFP, but if you need a place to start and are shy, a photo class or an MM paid model could do the trick and be the boost you need to get those initial shoots under your belt. pretty girls can be scary, i'll be the first to admit that, and taking their picture is a great way to get "used to" female beauty. it really helped me.

3. having said that, my goal is to get good enough and persuasive enough to be able to pull girls off the street, just normal, beautiful girls, and have them come to my apartment/studio for an impromptu photo shoot. i haven't been able to do that yet. also, eventually i would love to work with modeling agencies and do test shooting with them for their new faces division. anyway, those are my two goals for 2013 and 2014.

4. oh yeah, also, like you said, it's just FUN. even without the bangs, photographing girls is a blast. it's just a nice skill to have, too. imagine you find yourself a beautiful gf through game, or get a sexy one night stand, imagine having the confidence to say, "hey babe, let me take your picture", and quickly snap away and capture her beauty forever, in a nice, well lit b/w image that captures her beauty at that moment. it's awesome.

5. and, of course, all this is capturing value for you. you just become a more interesting person. it's like learning the guitar. even if you can only play one song, if you have that guitar in your apt, and play that one song for a girl, that could do the trick. display display display.

6. and, if other girls know that you shoot models, that will give you tons of social proof. i had one girl that fell for me quickly, she knew i took pictures of girls, and she looked through my phone and saw that i had all these girls' numbers with "model" after it and she commented on it, damn you know a lot of models! they weren't real models, but yeah, they were model mayhem girls that i met and photographed, and had saved their numbers in my phone as "christina model", etc.

7. basically, it's just another way to create a more interesting life, and bring more beautiful girls into your life.

Hey Rivelino,

I like your style and attitude towards using photography to get laid. You're making some good points.

I got into this from the perspective of, "Hey, I think the gear and technology is cool. I want to learn and get involved in photography." I started out shooting landscapes and cityscapes. It was only much later that I discovered that shooting hot girls is a lot more enjoyable.

Some guys have asked where to find girls who like to be photographed. ModelMayhem is certainly an option, but I've found Craigslist to be much more productive for me. I post casting calls in the Talent/Gigs section and my phone and email blows up for days after I post an ad. I recently ran a couple of ads seeking girls of color, girls with tats and piercings and the responses came in faster than I could reply.

My problem is that I stay so busy with my other business pursuits and with my current stable of girls that I just don't have enough time to pursue this the way I would like.

Someone stated that every other guy with a camera does this. While its true that there are lots of guys with cameras who try to do this, most of them seem to be borderline illiterate and socially awkward. At least that's what their casting calls seem to indicate.

As Rivelino suggests, behaving and dressing in a stylish and professional manner, knowing what you're doing, being literate, and being prompt and courteous with your communications, will put you head and shoulders above the noise.

Rivelino maybe you should set up a one day photography game workshop. You organize a model and a studio and whichever members are interested fly in and see how you do it and you show them the ropes. We pick up the bill for your time and model. I'd be down for that if you are in Europe.

You know Hegre has started doing nude workshops down in Sitges. I considered it but prices are pretty high.

You don't need the 85mm or 135mm lenses to get more of a blurred background (bokeh) effect. You just take the picture closer, and you'll get equivalent bokeh. The shorter the focusing distance the more bokeh you get. A 50mm f/1.8 for full frame or the 35mm f/1.8 for APS will work great for anyone. Me and my other photo hobby friends eventually find out the 24-70mm f/2.8 pretty much covers everything you'll do practically, and the the 50mm f/1.8 for bars and other very low lit areas.

The other problem with an 135mm/85mm is if your working area is too small you can't back up enough since your too zoomed in. You'll need a bigger room to take photos in.

Also another tip is to get an eye-fi and a retina iPad or similar. The ability to instantly show people photos that isn't that shitty 3.5" screen on your camera is pretty amazing.

Also a shit ton of photography is skill, it's not the fucking gear. You can do amazing shit with a tripod, a $400 SLR, some photoshop and desire. This loner kid is fucking amazing, and it was basically him, the camera and the tripod: http://www.kylethompsonphotography.com/

1. malc, you are right about getting the blurred background with a 50mm lens, however if you get up close with a 50mm then the face gets slightly distorted, or better put, people look better when photographed with an 135mm lens (because maybe the 135mm lens distorts as well, but in a positive way.) JUST TRUST ME.

2. you don't need to much space. i mean, you can't shoot in a closet, yeah, but any normal size room, you will be fine. again, TRUST ME.

3. yes, except when you're starting out, often times the pictures look better smaller (in case your focus is slightly off, and for other reasons). and, the screens of almost all DSLRs are now pretty good. and, even more so, the biggest reason is, KEEP IT SIMPLE.

1. yes, but again, KEEP IT SIMPLE is my strategy. maybe that is what i should call my method, THE KEEP IT SIMPLE WAY TO GETTING LAID THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY. i mean, obviously, if you are making a movie, girls will flock to you. that would be awesome. i just don't want to start lying to girls about some major project when i don't have one in the works. KEEP IT SIMPLE. say you like shooting portraits, and shoot them. no excuses necessary.

2. yes, CL works but i just think MM works better, at least for me. maybe in LA CL works really well, i don't know. but MM has SO MANY GIRLS on it, it is insane. the site is HUGE. okay, i just checked. of course the numbers are inflated, but it just said right now that it has over 700,000 female models registered to the site as of today, around the world. just think about those numbers! even think 1/10th of that. damn. that's a lot of girls who want to have their picture taken.

3. yes, if you have a bit of cash to burn, it's a nice investment. if not, again, female friends, friends of friends, SO MANY GIRLS want to be photographed. it's a validation thing. girls feel special in front of the camera.

4. it all depends. girls are VERY negotiable, though, especially as you get better. the best thing to do is do your own casting call, with a rate, and then the girls who reply know the deal. i have paid $50 for a five hour shoot, if that gives you an idea. girls who are starting out are thrilled just to get the experience and the photographs. TFP works great too, although you have to deal with girls flaking. but that's true for anything having to do with girls. i am at the point where girls want to pay me to shoot them, but not the really hot girls. not yet! soon.

okay, last point for today. i was really thinking about why i love my method, i don't think i explained it fully. it's like this.

you want the girl to feel this way:
"i met this really cool man at my photo shoot, the photographer! he was so good at his job. really talented and dedicated. and then, after the shoot, he invited me out for a drink, and we hit it off. i am seeing him again next week."

NOT this way:
"the photographer tried to fuck me during the shoot. what a sleaze. i bet he tries that with all the girls."

HUGE DIFFERENCE.

you want the girl to feel like it was almost by accident that you two hit it off, or destiny, or whatever. you DON"T want to make her feel that you are just a pervy photographer that tries to fuck every girl that comes into his "studio". you want to be taken seriously, and you want her to feel that she is being taken seriously. you two are creating something beautiful and magical, capturing beauty, creating art. you have a higher calling. it's like roissy's 3rd commandment. you have a mission. you are the real deal. a photographer who does it as a calling, because he loves the craft. of course he has fun too, and he loves to meet new people, and if he happens to really connect with one of the girls, well then maybe he will make an *exception* to his "i don't date models" rule and invite her for a drink, but only *one* drink, because he's a busy and popular man.

that's the attitude.

that's the scenario you want to create.

if you just try to fuck her during the shoot, unless you are famous or really handsome and really turn her on, it is just really unlikely that she is going to fuck you during the shoot, because she will lose value if she does. actually yohami explained that to me really well. unless you are in fact terry richardson, if she fucks you, then she is just another slutty model who fucked the random photographer. most girls don't want to be that girl and lose value. BUT if you treat her with respect, like a professional, and tease her slightly, and make her feel special, and connect emotionally during the shoot, and then AFTER the shoot you ask her out for a casual drink, THEN it's no longer the sleazy photographer trying to fuck the model -- what a cliche! -- it's two people that met and hit it off during an artistic project. something beautiful and even romantic.

final point, i am an introvert, and i shine one on one. if you are an extrovert and love to party, try your hand at party photography. i tried that a bit and it's amazing too. girls WILL shake their ass for the camera, or kiss, etc. it's EXACTLY like girls gone wild. well, none ever flashed for me, so it's not exactly the same. but my point is, this is my method that i developed to play to MY strengths. one on one, quiet, intimate, get to know each other, that kind of thing.

there are many ways to make photography and pretty girls a part of your life. this is my way, my method.
