I took a break from here for a little bit because too much information and not enough action really works against you. I found myself getting mixed up and thinking about a hundred different things when talking to a girl instead of being closer to my natural self. Fittingly enough even this topic has been beaten to death on these boards.

RVF is like any other educational forum I have been to. Over time the information becomes redundant and its just regulars trying to fill the void with amusing but off topic conversation. Seems like RVF has slowed down a lot in the Summer anyway. Hopefully there is more content in the coming Winter months.

I'd like more info from the vets of this board on restaurant/art gallery game. In short, some focus on the high-end. G-man has written a bit about this. In fact, RVF is somewhat lacking on these areas.

roosh's post was directed at keyboard jockeys, which i was until 2011. i thought i could plot out all interactions, all contingencies; have the perfect maneuver, line, routine, etc. for every scenario; manipulate the interaction and the girl like a technician.

this thinking is borne out of out hardcore social awkwardness - a lack of social experience and understanding of girls and of people, generally. a steady dose of approaches, with the right amount of success and failures, and the ability to learn from them, will disabuse of person of this, like it did me.

nerds flock to pua and continue on being nerds, viewing human interaction as the new video game. in reality pick up is in some ways more simple and in other ways more fleshed out; it's mostly based on "hard" factors outside the realm of strategy: the girl's availability, horniness, drunkenness, mood, preferences, cultural orientation; your appearance, energy, extroversion, wit, articulation, achievements, etc. it's the same old numbers game basically. build up your value and see who's buying.

For some its dead, for others its very much alive.

It just depends who we are talking about.

For a newbie that doesn't know the basics, he is still struggling to swim, he has not mastered game or even discovered his own style of gaming. For this guy, Game is alive. He battles it everyday. Game is a mountain that he is trying to climb. It's alive.

For veterans, they could take it or leave it. They might feel like gaming today or they might not.. Game, may as well be dead, its just another tool in their tool belt.

Then you have all the guys who are advancing from novice to beginner. That's one of the most important transitions to make. Its very much alive here. There are in the trenches.

Also, the guys going from beginner to low intermediate, big jump, game is alive here.

And, the guys going low intermediate to intermediate, this is fun, you start getting more consistent results, alive and well!

Intermediate ----> low advanced. This is about where I am. I am pushing to get to an advanced level. I choose to let game live or die. It's my choice.

The Masters, Game is dead. Game is a concept that they learned long ago. It is fully internalized. They can bring it back to life at any time since it is merely a concept in their minds. They can add to it or delete from it, at their judgement.

Its a personal thing, I think. We make it more alive or less alive based on our attention to it.

I see it like the old apple tree in my grandmas backyard. Every October, we would go out there and cut a few branches off. Removing the ones that don't produce fruit and highlighting the ones that do. The tree changes over time, but it gets more efficient about how it makes fruit.

My final answer is --

Game is not dead, at least for me its not. I'm getting better everyday and developing new strategies and techniques.

Game gives me life.

I think the great value of the forum is that it's a place for like-minded people to share their experiences. People have sought out community for as long as there have been people and "Game" just happens to be what brought an exceptional cast of characters all to one place.

There's information here for men of every stripe, regardless of where they are at in Game or in life. I agree with the basic premise of Roosh's post that too much information can be paralyzing for some. Thankfully, now we have a post/thread for that too.

We are a "how to" society. Tell me how to get to x. We want it easy and without the work. That is why there are so many how to books out there. But that is just a mechanic the true factor is desire/intention and action. But out egos are fragile and we don't want to make mistakes etc. So people just want to keep processing data in a vacuum. It is safer than real world contact. Where so many things may go outside of the plan. Much like a movie is perfect before it is made. That is when it is easiest (generally) to presell because all it is a script, some named actors and nice marketing materials. It is at the highest quality in people's minds because everyone is buying the hype and anticipation of it. But once it is made sometimes it fails to meet expectations and you get a lot less for the sale of the movie.

How does this tie to this thread? When people are planning the potential of success is still there. If you haven't asked her out yet, you believe you still have a chance. You have not made your move so you haven't bombed yet (I know people shouldn't expect to fail but some do). That is why a lot of people enjoy the mental masturbation of constantly studying and trying to perfect themselves without ever applying it.

It is a way for some to convince themselves they are making progress. A way of stalling the actual need to take action. Making up numbers here, they get 50 percent of the joy without any risk of pain. That's the ego's job to avoid pain.

For some who never try and all they do is read and post, the reality is they are spinning in their own hamster wheel.

For me, this forum has been a real asset. It helped to reset some beliefs and provided a lot of motivation. After several years of not taking a vacation, I am here in Poland (unable to sleep damn time difference). Win, lose or draw, I will discover more about myself these next few days.

I think Roosh's post is mostly about the "ceiling" that most guys hit from reading books about game and various other pursuits. It can increase your knowledge, awareness, etc., but unless you are going out and actually pounding the pavement, experiencing it for yourself, than you will never truly learn, grow, and improve. Every guy needs to go through a bit of trial and error if he really wants to figure things out for himself, and get good at anything that's challenging and takes time to get good at.

Personally I've at certain points in time have been guilty of being too much a "student" of game, reading blogs, books, watching vids, etc., but not actually going out there and doing that many approaches or putting as much effort into it in real life. Not to say I was key board jockeying, but just being too invested in reading and studying as opposed to doing the actual work, which is ultimately what it boils down to.

For as much as I've read and studied I should be an elite level guy, but absorbing knowledge can only take you so far. If you can apply that knowledge, internalize it and truly embody it, then in some ways it's arguably useless. Fortunately I have learned a lot, and have been able to apply it to improve a decent bit, but overall I'd say I'm still stuck at the "low intermediate" level, with my main issue being a lack of consistency with hot and cold spells.

Now I've probably started ranting and am becoming redundant, but the main take away point I got from Roosh's post is that there is no substitute for action and experience. A friend of mine who is a total beta chode who hasn't been laid in two years, is someone I've tried to turn onto game. He for whatever reason never really got into Roosh's work, but really loves RSD. This guy watches RSD videos every day and has been to two of their hot seat seminars, but yet after like 6 months of this hasn't made any real approaches and thus hasn't collected a phone number, got a kiss, or anything. How the fuck is watching hours of RSD videos going to do you any good, if you can't even open your mouth to talk to a chick?
