Alright,
Since I'm from Los Angeles, I have Melrose and Fairfax in my backyard.
There's a lot of stores around here like Supreme, Diamond Supply Co, Stussy- but they all have that "Hypebeast" style to them.
What do you guys think? Worth spending money on those brands? Or should I be sticking to stuff like Zara, AX, etc.? I can't tell if girls in my age range are impressed more by brand or style, seems 50/50 to me.

If you're messing with the 18-25 range, probably doesn't matter either way. Just dress to the way that appeals to the girls you are most attracted to. The Hypebeast brands tend to be very trendy though and run their course eventually(e.g. Bape or LRG), while a brand like Zara offers more timeless wear if you want to segue into the more "grown man" look.

Personally, since you live in LA, you can pull it off with relative ease as street casual wear is pretty popular for any age range, especially if you're kicking it in that area. Just have a wide variety of stuff, different looks, different fits depending on your mood. Just don't get stuff too baggy. I usually don't rock that street wear although I do have a lot of the stuff (lots of UNDFTD, ALIFE, etc), but I went shopping in the Grove with an Estevan Oriol "LA" shirt and I was getting scoped out more by a lot of the ladies, someone even stopped me to instagram my shirt while I was shopping, just wearing that, shorts and some old school Jordans. The stuff is pretty LA classic, just don't be looking like Turtle from Entourage.

This stuff looks like over-priced, ill-fitting junk for the most part. I wear some things from Hypebeast selectively, but usually can't justify shelling out 50 bucks for a normal fit/material t-shirt, as I'm just paying for the branding premium. I went to the Stussy store in NYC and was quite disappointed at how boxy the t-shirts were.

Dude he looks like a douche in that stuff, seems a bit old for it.
That's a problem I'm considering- some girls seem to gravitate towards $$$ and brand/reputation, but they're usually the "trashier" girls. Then there's the real quality girls who expect you to dress nicer, but then you can't get with the "other" girls as much.

I am a little torn here. I grew up a skateboarder, and still do occasionally. I have been shopping at Supreme and Stussy for 20 years, have been wearing Vans since the 80's. On the weekends this is how I dress, but since I was in the corp world I appreciate a nice suit or pair of dress shoes, a nice pair of denim(raw RRL). On dates I usually dress up. It all comes down to your personal style and the look you want to have. Look at Rob Dyrdek, he sort of bridges the gap. I wouldn't worry about what the women think. The most high quality women I was ever with was when I was skating and dirty as fuck. Smart girls are usually attracted to those types.

Cudi is a good model to follow. Depending on the venue, he'll switch the style and can even mix street and more grown up wear together seamlessly. He still rocks the hypebeast brands pretty heavily, but it never really looks out of place. I'm kind of in the same boat in that I can't part with some of my Jays, even though I'm cleaning up quite a bit.

I'm not a fan, looks a bit ghetto to me personally. I like Mark McNairy, Civillionaire, etc. Go to American Rag on La Brea or Fred Segal on Melrose, they have good street wear that is a little more expensive, fits better, etc.

What I usually end up dressing in is a Ben Sherman or similar button-down shirt with sleeves rolled, Levis or Famous jeans (dark or waxed), some decent shoes, some DTA/Rogue Status or Express jacket if it's cold, and ALWAYS a watch (either something street like a G-Shock or a bit classier like an Omega.)

Does this seem decent?

Yeah, I always rock button downs and jeans. Either that and a plain v-neck, just the most versatile. I have way too many street wear shirts I bought and never wear, seriously like 200 t-shirts and I never wear them. I think I want to, but then I feel like a kid when I wear them out.

Have a red G-shock too, either that or my Nike fuel band.

I wouldn't know. Just don't look like you're trying too hard, just be casual about it and if it vibes with your personality it shouldn't be an issue.
