RE: 18 Ways To Wear A Necktie [CHART]
When I was a kid my grandfather taught my how to tie a tie - on the palm my left hand. What I mean is, the tie is completely finished before it goes around my neck. The process of tying is reminiscent of how you wrap your hands for boxing; weaving through the fingers and also across the palm.

I've been doing it this way for years and have never seen anyone else use this method. I always cringe when I see guys struggling in front of a mirror trying to tie a Four-In-Hand, the knot looks so cheesy and weak.

I've tried googling my grandfathers technique, but to no avail. He grew up poor in Russia, so I've always liked to think it was some sort of secret ancient knot passed down through the ages. Does anyone else use this knot or know what I am talking about?

I do a 4-in-hand, but I rarely wear ties. What knot do you guys use?

Half-windsor most often.
Full windsor for longer ties or spread collar shirts.
Christensen looks cool without being tacky.

Four in hand is touted as a casual knot by some, but the unevenness makes it look sloppy.

When the current trend is a graphic tee + skinny jeans, wearing a tie puts you 2 levels up, so why use an amateurish knot?

Every time i see a 4 in hand with blazer: "You're already stepping up the suit game, do it justice--halfwindsor or bust"

"The whole point of being alpha, is doing what the fuck you want.
That's why you see real life alphas without chicks. He's doing him.

Real alphas don't tend to have game. They don't tend to care about the emotional lives of the people around them."

Half windsor with pointed collar shirts.

Full windsor with spread collar shirts.

Bow tie.

Ascot at the track (or whenever I feel like pissing people off)

With windsor knots, dont forget the dimples.

The fuller, even knots like the windsor look terrible with skinny ties.

From 'With Russia, With Love' (book): "Bond mistrusted anyone who tied his tie with a Windsor knot. It showed too much vanity. It was often the mark of a cad."

Not that I necessarily agree, just think it's a funny quote especially combined with that picture.

I use half windsor or 4-in-hand. The full windsor is way too big for me, and usually doesn't work with any of the ties I have (makes the tie way too short)

Never heard of such a thing, but I really want to learn it. Make a vid?

RE: 18 Ways To Wear A Necktie [CHART]
I rotate between Pratt knot, Trinity knot, and Merovingian knots at the moment.

Unlike in the diagram, I don't tuck the trinity knot end into the collar, rather I thread it through the back of the knot, like in the cafe knot.

The Pratt knot is not really 'uneven,' although you can make it uneven by pulling the knot too tight.

I find the Merovingian to be quiet aesthetically pleasing:
http://thewelldressedman.net/how-to-tie-...ngian-knot

It's strange, but people treat me better since I've started wearing ties, and women look at me more.

I think men wearing a tie and a good suit is to women what women wearing heels and a sexy dress are to men.

The only knot I dislike is the Eldridge knot. While it always draws a comment, I feel like it gets me mixed reactions, and it's huge and uncomfortable to wear. I would also advise threading the end through like in the cafe knot, because having that extra end in the collar makes the collar go uneven and sometimes the end can slip out of the collar, which looks bad.

I keep it simple with the 4 in hand.

I second this. I'd also like to learn it.

I pretty much always wear a half-windsor, with 3 inch ties and a standard point collar. I really think you need to consider the shape/size of your face, then determine a collar style that flatters it, and then wear a knot to match the collar.

I always tie a full Windsor. Problem is, the back of the tie always ends up too short. Is there a better choice that also has an even knot? I don't like those assymetrical knots.

If only you knew how bad things really are.
