I'm getting this a lot recently too and am also curious as to what the proper response is. The context is that I'm at her place or mine, and we we're in the process of making out. Then she wants to know if I just want to have sex or a relationship. I say "you don't have to do anything you don't have to." I repeat this over and over but it does not seem to satisfy them and stops escalation.

I usually tell girls that I never define things in advance but am open to a relationship with the right girl, then keep pressing for sex.

For questions that you don't how to answer, you answer them with the same question. The result? No answer given and one of you will change the subject. Don't try to give out smart answers to these questions, it may just fuck up everything.
