Know anyone 'in love with falling in love'?
My best friend is dumping his girlfriend - for a new one. I told him this would happen since every 2-4 years he starts a new relationship (this is his 8th serious girlfriend).

I don't have any experience with relationships - so I just want to get some feedback.

Do you think some people are addicted to the rush of a new relationship? And after a few years - they go looking for it again with somebody else?

Or is this just true of everyone - and maybe I am being too hard on my friend by unfairly identifying something which isn't really there?

Just curious what you guys think?

I think my friend is a cool guy. But if you get addicted to starting new relationships it seems you will be forever unhappy and never able to settle into a relationship. That is what I told him - but he doesn't listen to me since I am useless when it comes to women.

This is more of a female trait. But some guys are like that too. I think men are more likely to be in love with the thrill of a new sexual conquest.

Yeah, me and my buddy are like this. We've had discussions about it.

There's a song by Jonathan Richman called "Summer Feelin'". There's a great line from the song that goes:

"Was it really her?
Or was it the way you were?"

To me, being in love has nothing to do with the girl, or very little. I openly admit that I fall in love with the way certain girls look. It's pure aesthetics. The difference is, when I was younger I would forge emotional attachments based on that feeling, whereas now I see it for what it is and I can take it or leave it. Every time I see an attractive girl, I fall in love a little. Being "in love" is just a state of existence, you can be "in love" looking at a painting, or a building, or a tree. Certain types of weather trigger it, or certain memories.

Some people would call that type of love bullshit, but then what is love?

Yeah - I think you are right. There is alot of 'projection' when it comes to love. Which is why holiday romances are so common since people mix up the new surroundings and the joy of a holiday with the person they meet. And think the person is responsible for how they feel.

Thanks for the Richman quote. I will remember that one!

'Roadrunner' is one of my favourite songs by the way.

He could have perfectly valid reasons for ending each relationship. 2-4 years is long out past the blush of 'new love', and enough time for any problems to have reared their head.

I got a buddy like that (one of my best friend actually).
The guy could get any girl in his bed and yet, he chooses to go for mini-relationships. They'll last anywhere from a month to a couple of years.
Now good for him if that's his thing, but it makes it very hard to take him seriously whenever he talks about how much in love he is..

I guess some people just have a very hard time being alone.

Some people may get addicted to that feeling you get early on with someone new. When it wears off, they need to feel it again.

I am. Before I got into game, my natural "game" so to speak was basically falling in love with a chick. Stuff would get super passionate, I'd get really personal, intimate, etc etc. Spend a lot of time.

And then I'd get bored, lose interest, and cut her off. Rinse, repeat.

I hate watching a chick cry. That's pretty hard for to stomach.

Thankfully, I've changed up my game to come on less strongly. I'd like to avoid the drama.

sure, I do this, except the relationships don't last 2 to 4 years, more like 6 to 8 months. The longest was like a year and a half but I let that go way too long, I had tried breaking it off earlier, because all we did was argue, but she kept saying she would change, but never did.

I don't even fall in love any more, I just rather have the stability of seeing someone who I like, that is not a fat flake so I put them in a relationship.

Everything about game still applies to these of course

Me too, except I would amend this to, "I hate watching a chick cry, if she didn't deserve it."

There's nothing better than watching some bitch not get her way and throw a tantrum because of it.

But yeah, having a girl treat you well, and then dumping her and watching her world collapse, that's pretty rough.
