In Russia it's irrelevant whether the work is paid, paid in kind (eg. with flights, accommodation, gifts, etc.), or unpaid. Interns and volunteers are also required to have work permits or to be enrolled at a local university.

There wasn't any 'trick' involved, IMO. To apply for a tourist visa, he had to indicate that the purpose of his stay in Russia was tourism. The only explanation I can think of is that he's famous only to a small group of internet followers and has little impact on the ground.

I'm sure he does well over there, but he says things sometimes that make me think that game has little to do with why he's banging in Russia. I think he's a smart guy that built a great niche and made himself into a mini-celebrity. It seems as though the girls he's getting are from his niche. I don't get the impression he's cold approaching girls in the clubs of Moscow. I've seen a fair number of his videos and it looks like his strategy has been to become a youtube mini-celebrity, get paid to teach English, add tens of thousands of followers on VK and then go out to party and drink with his students after class, the majority of which seems to be young chics. It sounds like he basically has girls messaging him whenever he arrives in a new town. Great hustle and much respect for that, but I don't know how well he would be doing if he didn't have his niche.

I've had 15 visas or so from Russia, including tourist, business, cultural exchange, and work visas. English teachers working on tourist visas is a common practice, and from time to time people get burned. It's one of those classic Russian things where laws are selectively enforced for reasons that are not obvious.

There was a private international school that lost all its foreign staff in Moscow earlier this year. As usual it was someone behind the scenes who pulled some strings that revealed the teachers did not have proper work visas.

LOL... tbh the British International chain in Kiev has a horrible reputation. I think it is the same ownership as Moscow (was Nord Anglia) They have been known to hire unlicensed teachers. I am talking about folks who never taught or have any education background.

I know of a nanny with a BA degree and no teachers license that was hired as a 1 st grade teacher. They use to have a Ukrainian partner who ran the school and make the bribes so they could work.

Anyway, they yearly laid off teachers so as not to pay end of contract bonus. They would get laid off in a similar method....refused visa extensions because of licenses.

Heard Korea is notorious for shit like that as well.

Exactly. Americans may be able to distinguish between Phil's style and that of a thug from the ghettos, but most Russians cannot. There are probably a lot of nuances which foreign eyes cannot see. To non-Americans, HIP HOP = people from NY ghettos.

I hear you. Honestly I don't know how well most dudes would do without some edge. Many rely on unearned status and worship to get notches and that seems to be called "game".

I respect someone that can go out and create something from nothing and reap the benefits. That said, I believe Philsko was was getting Russian women in America even before he became a min celeb.
