Looking forward to hearing about your experience.

Central America doesn't get rave reviews on here or anywhere, but it is close, inexpensive, and beautiful. Thinking about starting my travels there soon. Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama are on my list.

I got a few friends who had a great time down there. Primary goal is to surf my brains out though.

Also I have a one night stop over in Huston (1st Thursday) on the way down if anyone wants to meet up/has any good Intel.

I'll be writing a data sheet on El Tunco, El Salvador which is also terrific for surfing.

Everyone I met in Guatemala and El Salvador raved about Nicaragua -- you'll love it.

Good to know man. Looking forward to reading that. I feel like its a better choice then Cuba but I will hit Cuba up eventually.

If you have any specific Nicaragua questions PM me and I can ask some of my buddies who were just there.

As far as "surf game" goes, based on El Tunco, just try to speak to all of the Western girls learning how to surf and give them pointers. Find out when the lessons are on the beach and maybe head down there right after when people are trying things out on their own. Then look for them later that night and attack.

Western/central Nicaragua is where the cities are located. It's more mestizo and white. Eastern Nicaragua (though I've never been) I hear is more black and Caribbean. It's sparsely populated. I imagine that eastern Nicaragua is a good place to lose oneself and cut off contact from the world, and perhaps start a colony. A la The Mosquito Coast.

Probably my own fault. I was posting off my phone and the way my phone works you can only see one word at a time as you type. Makes it hard to write an informative post.

Ya cancelled on Cuba man after what you and other wrote. Seemed like a bad first trip tot hat part of the world, maybe when my Spanish is better and I am a bit better travelled. Thanks again for the info.

Bring a phone for wifi or no? Trying to weigh up losing my smart phone versus internet usage. Do they even have any wifi in the small coastal towns? Already have a waterproof camera so pictures are covered

Any advice?

They have internet there in most places. Bring your smart phone. You can get a local SIM card.
