I know on a player's forum, the macho thing would be to say that you wouldn't want to live if you couldn't bang, but on another level, you could say that's kind of a cop-out. We've reached a time in human history where there's a lot more to life than just banging your brains out.

Imagine you had your dick cut off or were paralyzed from the neck down, or even just from the waist down. What would you do? Would you just want to die?

Life wouldn't have to be meaningless if you could rise to the challenge. Look at men like Stephen Hawking (watching his show made me think about it). And plenty of lesser men have managed to live satisfying lives under similar circumstances. If you could conquer your insecurity and self-pity, you could maximize yourself in ways you wouldn't if you were chasing tail and explore other areas of the human experience.

If you were smart and hard-working enough, you could take a shot at making your mark on history.

For the record, this is an exercise in thought - not planning to cut my dick off or anything.

Though you see a lot of people in these conditions become extremely bitter alcoholics. There are several examples of people who have leveraged their challenges into a positive life.

I already spend most of my life sitting on my ass reading, but I guess I would finally commit to learning to play scales really really fast like Buckethead and get some gratification through youtube likes.

It's a good question, though. There's a striking passage in "Joji Numata's" A Sex Pervert's Diary where the protagonist sits on the toilet and comes very close to cutting his balls off to remedy his obsession with women and their "clams," a line of thought curiously unthinkable with guys as cuntstruck yet cerebral as many on RVF tend to be, myself included.
(Every time I mention this book I have to cite his suggestion that women be forced to wear pictures of their poons around their neck, because that is sublime.)

I would work on my wheelchair game, probably use it a lot as a prop for daygame.

"Excuse me, I can't reach that can on the top shelf, would you mind getting it for me?"

"Excuse me, would you mind holding my wheelchair steady? I need to get my wallet out and my brake isn't working well at the moment, I'm worried I'm going to roll backwards..."

"Excuse me, do you know of a better coffee shop somewhere nearby? This venue isn't very wheelchair friendly..."

Can you imagine Samseau in a wheelchair in the club? I'd think he'd grab a chick's hand, pull her onto his lap, say, "Hold on tight!" and then pop some wheelies on the dance floor.

You do know that the vast majority of paralytics retain the ability to have an erection? And not all paralytics have loss of sensation...

^ Spot on! One of my friends got his lower body paralyzed in a snowboarding accident 10 years ago.

Of course the fact that he can't walk anymore was a hard nut to swallow at first, but with time he accepted it and now he says he don't even remember how it felt to walk anymore.
Humans are amazing to adapt themselves into all kinds of situations.

He has developed decent wheelchair game and he's never been short on chicks. Even hot ones.
It's kind of weird, but it seems like a lot of girls are curious to try a paralyzed guy.

I think it's clear from my OP, though, that I was describing a situation where sex would be impossible for you. For the sake of a thought exercise.

Honestly Beyond Borders, without it actually happening, I think most of our answers are pretty bogus. This is the kind of thing where you really can't predict a person's reaction to is unless it actually happens. That said, as a thought exercise:

1. Dick cut off: This one's probably the least worst of the three. I'd put on a couple of pounds, buy a scimitar, and apply at my local harem for a position as a harem guard. I might not be able to have sex, but at least I'd get to see a lot of it, and I could always fondle the harem girls in secret, maybe even wear a strap-on and go at it while the Sultan's away.

2. Paralyzed from the neck down: Well, I wouldn't have much of a choice on what to do here, I'd be paralyzed from the neck down, so the point is moot. I would probably cry all day from knowing what I'm putting my family through, then once the salt runs out, I'd dry-cry, if that's possible. Maybe I'd try to choke on some food when no one's looking and hope they don't see me turn blue and die. I'm not sure if everyone that's paralyzed from the neck down gets a Stephen Hawking chair or not...if so, then that would make life more bearable...Jesus...this scenario's horrible to even think about, man.

3. Paralyzed from the waist down: This one's doable...it would be a matter of having a strong support network...it'll be very difficult at first, but it's doable. It would just be a matter of making adjustments in life, both psychological and physical, to reflect your new limitations. I'd write more. I'd probably surf the internet all day too.

Man, this is so horrible, I wish no one ever had to go through any of these...

lol Yeah, I just came out with it that way since this is a player's forum. A lot of guys from this crowd would be quick to jump on the suicide wagon - or at least think they would be - because they highly value their sexual prowess.

Not so fast on the point being moot. Look up Jon Morrow. He lives a pretty interesting life and seems to find reward in what he does. He's an amazing guy and anyone who wants to get into IM should follow his stuff.

Also look up interviews on "the baddass project." I believe there are other parapelegics on there doing interesting things too.

These days even not having use of your body you can still contribute your thoughts. Jon Morrow, for instance, started out a writer - and he can't move his body! He uses text to speech software. He's now one of the associate editors of Copyblogger, makes a killing in IM, and lives in a plush spot down in Mexico with his every need taken care of.

Hell, he probably takes care of his family now rather than the other way around - I know he has a full-time Mexican nurse at his place.

Anyways, obviously this isn't something you'd wish upon anyone. But it's important to note with the internet and other technologies these days, you still could be a contribution to society. You still could publish books, communicate through video, whatever.

As an addendum to the thought exercise, if you guys had to choose between these two, which would you choose, and why?

1. Getting your dick cut off (and being fine otherwise),

OR

2. Being paralyzed from the waist down, BUT with sexual function, so you could still, technically, have sex?

I'd adapt and go on living life as usual. I'd probably be sad as fuck for 6 months tops. I remember a behavioral economist talking about how anything great or bad can only affect your mood for 6 months top. After that, you go back to your old equilibrium. That's why people are never happy with their lives. (I can't recall his name unfortunately). This has been consistent with my observations.

Heck, even if my dick didn't work, I'd still be happy. I'd find things to do. I'd still live my life. Life is more than just pussy, there is so much to do.

I would return to the US the developing world is a tuff place for disabled people. I would then live my life more or less the same as I always did. I love to walk so besides fucking that would make me dislike my disability.

I honestly am surprised by the responses, but in all honesty I would either become a monk or get a solid gold 50 cal bullet, buy a Desert Eagle, and put it to my head........bang. If from neck down, I would kill myself in some way plain and simple. I would put my head into a bucket full of water and drown. If I cannot retain some possible body function it is better to be dead.
