In a literary sense, sure. You can find the definitions, connotations, and usage in the dictionary.

In a practical," what can I do to pick up more women" there's no discernible difference, because both words are hard to define.

Bill Clinton had a lot of charm.
George Bush Sr. did not.

George W Bush, had a fair amount of charm
John Kerry did not.

Katie Couric - lots of charm
Ann Curry - no charm

The question gets hard when you think about people like
- Jay Leno
- Jimmy Kimmel
- Jimmy Fallon
- David Letterman
- Conan O'Brien
- John Stewart
- Stephen Colbert

They all have the same job, they all basically have the same background. But when you ask people about how they feel about these guys, there are going to be very strong opinions.

Same thing happens with Game show hosts, newscasters, ...

What is it that compels listeners/the audience to want to
a) like these people
b) want to hear more from them

Cause it's easy enough to be likable, you just are inoffensive.

But to "seduce" people, to want them to want you....

That's the billion dollar question

Yes, at least as far as usage goes.

Charm is charisma plus sex appeal and refinement, leavened with a little flirting. James Bond, Audrey Hepburn. Passivity precludes charm. A girl who is charismatic is a girl I want to chat with, but a girl's charm is what makes you want to *possess her.* Same for charming men with women.

I find being charming works best with the long burn types, like friends of friends. If you can resist the urge to immediately be in hunter mode that is. I equate charisma with animal magnetism, where you can roll up and know immediately whether you're in.

For me charismatic is about leadership and following whereas charm is about intimacy

If I'm getting this right, Napoleon, the French revolutionary, would be someone with a lot of charisma but is lacking in charm

Bill Clinton would be an example of someone with charisma and charm

Charisma is animal magnetism. It's seduction in its purest form. Charm is more mental. Eg, saying the right things at the right time.

Natural players have charisma.

RE: Charisma vs Charm, Is There A Difference?
I've heard people describe inanimate objects as "charming"- that's is to say the objects seem to work a spell on the appreciator.

I've never heard anyone describe a non-sentient thing as charismatic.

Something that is charming is something that can hold your attention. Charisma is a warm thing that people want to be close to or connect with.

I have heard ladies' men described as "charmers" but that's got a darker connotation than saying something is "charming".

Bingo, I'd say men that are "charmers" are trying to channel their charm as charisma which ends up coming off as fake or "creepy".

Charm is more effective when one is lacking direction with it.

RE: Charisma vs Charm, Is There A Difference?
Charisma has a lot to do with non-verbal communication. It's the difference between passively listening to somebody who is talking to you, and actively focusing on them with eye contact or physical contact.

The simplest explanation is that charisma is the natural ability to make everyone you talk to feel like they are the only person in the room.

The reason it is hard to separate the two is because charm is a key aspect of charisma, but I believe that charm is more about what you say and how you say it.

Charm is social dexterity.

Charisma is personal congruity.

RE: Charisma vs Charm, Is There A Difference?
I think charisma is a sort of personal magnetism. A personality that exudes a high level of social skill and confidence. That draws other people toward you and makes them confide in you and makes you a natural leader.

Charm I think is a way of conveying warmth and making others feel good about themselves through your words and actions. Charming people know how to warm people up rapidly.
