I still consider myself starting out. I saw a post back lamenting the 'commoditisation' of day game. Can't remember which thread it was, but one poster said it beware the onslaught of complete newbies who after watching 5 simple pickup videos off youtube, go out and do day game.

I think the general gist of the post was that guys like this who have no idea what they are doing will end up pumping up the egos of the girls they approach, making it harder for the guys who approach her later.

How valid is this? I understand his position, but how else should people gain experience? I want to get better, but I don't want to piss in my own food bowl so to speak.

What I'm doing so far is going about my day and if there is an easy opportunity, I make the approach, but I don't make my weekends around it.

The town I live in is quite small (population ~120,000). Sometimes I feel I shouldn't approach as much as I want to, since I might make a name for myself, or people may start recognising me. Is this a valid thought?

One thing I find helpful is have several venues where women go and rotate them. Example: there's about 4 good coffee shops where young women go throughout the day in my mid sized city. One's in a Big bookstore. So...hangout in one coffeeshop one day...another the next day..and so on. So, you're not in the same place every day but only once or twice a week.
Same with grocery stores for example...do your shopping in two places if you hit up girls there. Doing it this way...it shouldn't be too bad of an issue.

Also remember that women have incredibly short memories when it comes to this stuff.

What seems like a major blow out to you is a minor inconvenience to them that will be forgotten in a matter of days or weeks. Can you describe the bum who asked you for change last week? Didn't think so. That's about the level that most bad game will register with chicks. The only real risk is that you become is being 'that guy' if you hit one particular venue too often or use the exact same ridiculous lines on multiple women who might know each other. So mix it up and don't use canned lines.

Most importantly even the rare woman who does remember you will forgive your bad game if you ever get good at it. In my experience most women have a very poor emotional memory. To them the way they feel about you in this moment is the way they've always felt about you and always will feel about you. If you have a bad first impression then see them 6 months or a year later and make a good impression they will rewrite the bad impression out of their minds. It's an amazing thing to see.

Unless you absolutely freak them out, which is always a really bad thing. I can tell you from experience that there's some risk. You're in a small town with a small number of available attractive women. As long as you don't freak them out, you're fine. However, you need to be careful. Using the SimplePickup method, which I believe was primarily designed for YouTube views anyway, is probably not the best way. Also, keep in mind that cold approach has a low success rate, and daytime cold approach (i.e. day game) has an even lower success rate.

They are valid tools, however.

:O I thought approaching was the foundation of game - no approaches, no bang?

Hhmm, that makes me glad I've been playing it cool and have been approaching sparingly, rather than a 1 approach per day machine.

I'd suggesting mitigating this factor by utilizing more indirect day game. When you approach, make casual conversation ("elderly chat") in order to see if she warms up to you. Talk about the book she's reading, the food in her grocery cart, the latte she just ordered.

If she gives you positive feedback (eye contact, laughter, questions about you, etc.) then keep talking and eventually ask for her number ("you seem like a cool girl, let's grab a drink sometime"). Even if she turns you down, it'll be a soft rejection, not some crazy blowout she'll share with all her friends on Facebook.

You could easily do an approach a day in this manner and avoid getting a reputation. Especially if you rotate venues like an above poster mentioned.
