I recommend only pure butter for cooking.
It's tasty, healty, fat burning and testosterone boosting.

Olive oils gotta be cold pressed, and mostly used for salads...

I don't know so much about coconut oil, try to read Danger and Play.
I think Mike have written something about it.

Skipping the theory, do not heat olive oil. It turns into poisonous substance when you heat it.

Cook with cow butter or coconut oil.

Wow, I've been cooking with only EVOO for going on 8-9 months now, didn't even consider the smoke point, reading into it now it looks like it was a bad idea. Anyone try avacado oil? Its supposed to be very similar with a much higher smoke point.

If you cook high temperature with butter you should either use clarified butter or ghee. It's ok to cook with extra light olive oil (not to be confused with extra-virgin olive oil which is a no-no at high temps). Avocado oil is the best but can be hard to find. Grapeseed oil is another good one.

Are you saying that avocado oil is better than butter?
Or what do you mean? For what reason?
For health reasons or for practical reasons of cooking?

Wow is this true? How come I had never heard of this before.

So what good is Olive Oil then? Just salads?

Looks like I might be making the switch to Coconut Oil. But I want to hear more opinions.

Yes. NEVER heat up olive oil.
Cold pressed olive oil is most suitable for salads.

Like I already said. Butter for life.

Have you tried adding more protein before playing around with carbs?

Depends on what you mean by better. Refined avocado oil has the highest smoke point of any common cooking oil or fat - above 520 F. Clarified butter has a smoke point of 485. Extra light olive oil is 468. Lard is 390. Extra virgin olive oil is 391. Regular butter is 250.

So if you want to sear a steak avocado oil is great. You can let your pan get super hot and get a good crust in a few seconds. On the other hand if you're cooking eggs regular butter is great because it'll start to brown at the perfect temperature to cook your eggs. As long as your oil isn't smoking there's nothing to worry about.

Grilling meat is a great way of reducing the fat intake, so is using more 'natural' products as substitutes e.g. honey instead of sugar in your coffee/tea or nuts instead of crisps, you get the idea.

I don't want to reduce my fat intake!
And I never put sugar, honey or any other sweeteners in my coffee or tea.

Crips. I'm right now in England, I see how obsessed people are with crisps here.
Luckily I haven't a habit of eating them.

Question regarding oil: How much oil should I use? I am only using a tablespoon of when I cook. I cook about 500g of fish with this amount. Do you guys think it's too little?

I tried coconut oil today, not bad. 1 tablespoon is just about 130cals and 14g of fat.

RE: Problems with Lifting and Bulking.
So here's my question:

How can you tell if you're eating the RIGHT things during a bulk? I was bulking for a 4 months. but I was having trouble getting passed a certain weight for three weeks. After three weeks, I decided to eat more and I lowered the weight by 10%. i weighed myself the next week, and my weight stayed the same. Continued this for three more weeks; my bodyweight stayed the same, but I was able to achieve the weight I had lifted before. I went a little past that weight, but my form compromised, so I dropped back down. No bodyweight change, nor did my body look physically bigger during this reset period. I was using Starting Strength.

Nowadays, I go to the gym for maintenance. All the weights I am lifting right now are lighter than the heaviest I have lifted, but my physique is still good and that's what is most important to me. I don't care how much I weight, nor how much I lift, I just care more about pushing the limits of my body. I have been on maintenance for the past month. The current regimen is 3 warm up sets, and then one work set of 5 at the target weight. I do Squat, Bench, and Deadlift on A days, Squat military press, and pendlay rows on B days. I do NS sit ups for on both A days and B days, and I go three times a week. On the days that I don't lift, I do yoga, but this did not impact my earlier efforts because I started doing yoga well after I changed my lifting schedule to focus on maintenance rather than gains.

Is this simply a matter of eating more? Or could I possibly just have been eating the wrong things? My goal is to increase size in very specific areas before cutting. I am personally satisfied with the amount of weight I squat on a barbell. At this point I would rather learn how to kick some ass while looking like a Greek god haha

Chaos are you taking any supplements?

A pretty big guy I know said he did everything he could to bulk and couldn't. He started taking creatine and it not only helped him get bigger but also helped him reach the next level of weights.

RE: Problems with Lifting and Bulking.
I have no problem of gaining weight. That's easy for me.
But how to gain weight without getting a shitload of far is my dilemma.

And about supplements.
Only zinc and magnesium.

I would say that there are good stretching rubber-made devices with which one can have good muscles and also stay slender.
Does one have to take these supplements?
Wouldn't a balanced vegetable-meat diet do it?

So, you are gaining weight, but, much of this weight is fat.

You are probably eating:

A) Too many calories
B) Too many carbs
C) Too much sugar
D) Too much alcohol
E) Too much fat
F) Not working out enough or with enough intensity.

RE: Problems with Lifting and Bulking.
I'm going to be the devil's advocate here. The problem is in your mindset, not your diet.

If you really wanted to get bigger and stronger in then you wouldn't be worrying too much about short-term gains of bodyfat. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who tells you that you can "bulk" without gaining fat is selling something.

The feeling bloated thing is most probably your not being used to carbs, not fat gain. Come on, it's only been a week. Give your body time to adjust to the reintroduction of carbs.

I would suggest monitoring your weekly progress, both on the scale and in the mirror. Then there's your lifts too (which should be a walk in the park compared to low carb!).

If you are gaining weight too fast then, of course, lower your carbs a little. But generally my impression is that you are worrying too much about the fat gain, to the extent where it might negatively affect your gains. The worst possible outcome is lost time without achieving anything so decide which is the priority for now, looking cut or getting bigger.

You even stated that it's easy for you to cut down later, so concentrate on the 2-3 months of gaining size and call it a day when you are satisfied.

Just my 2 cents.

For the record, Jamie Lewis did some great posts on healthier bulking foods such as stews. I have been feeling like a beast in the gym since incorporating some of them into my bulking regime.
