From 2003 to 2013 I was abroad working for the USG in a variety of capacities—everything from contract diplomat, to managing 100s of Linguists for DOD in the Balkans, to running anti-trafficking programs in Moldova. Most of the 10 years was spent in war zones but about two years was spent in Romania, Tashkent, Jordan, and the UAE. My salary ranged from 84k a year to upwards of 240K. I went to an Ivy League school and played football for three years but wasn’t a starter or anything.

I like to travel and I like foreign girls but after 10 years of being abroad I came home last year and set up shop in Vegas. I now am profoundly unhappy, jaded, intellectually blighted, and disillusioned. I own some duplexes which net me about 5000 a month after all the hassle and have a boring ass contract gig which grosses me about another 4500 a month. The contract gig is not in my wheelhouse but I leveraged my security clearance and IT background and get task orders from a prime contractor.

I went all out when I got home. I read the books and felt that the key to women are cars, nice pads, and flashy shit so I leased a Porsche Cayman, got a swanky high rise on the strip for 1600 a month, and joined the country club. I thought I would have 8s throwing themselves at me left and right and I would be the man. I am not. I am leveraged to the max, normally dateless, and pissed off.
I would think that a 33 year old good looking black guy that is well educated and legit would get tons of babes but I was wrong. I feel intellectually and culturally disconnected here. Vegas is an immoral blue collar service based economy where education and worldliness are not valued.

In LA being a Talent Acquisition Specialist for Sony is more important than being a Special Assistant at the World Bank. In DC it is reversed. In New York it’s all about high finance—Ibankers and traders. In Vegas, it’s about…being a host at a club or being a good gambler. I have nothing of value—or no social currency-- to offer the women here.

In DC I always had dates with attractive foreign women and cute State Dept maidens; in Vegas the strippers have stood me up more times than I can count. I still get 9s 2x ayear—check out my FB if you want bonafides—but they are $350 a date girls and I am literally spending all my cash each month. Not hookers, but dinner on the strip with wine is 225 and the shows are about 120 for two tickets. Stupid.
Admittedly, I have limited game. I am sociable but sterile and at times my arrogance is palpable. My game was based upon my status that was discernable from my speech, clothes, and mannerisms. In Vegas they don’t respect a straight arrow like me. I thought that rolling around in Porsche would get me laid but it doesn’t.

In Europe and in the UAE I had model quality (and decent) women coming out of my ears. In Vegas I am getting fatties, flakes, and women who want a man to pay their rent.

Any advice.

Pick up Texas Hold'em and see if you have any natural ability. With a man of your intelligence, I would think you could get something going or at least make some connections. Otherwise calihunter is right, get out of there.

I have rarely been a direct hire for the govt. I work for contract companies which have contracts with the government. USAID would hire my firm to implement an a program in Romania and we would execute it. At times, we would use vehicles, signature lines, and their emblem on our cards. I understand the confusion. Take a look at one of my old cards and u can see what I mean.

Northrup Grumman, Deloitte, BAH, SAIC, etc....For example: my base in Kishinev was 82k a year as a Senior Consultant. I got 20% post differential plus a per diem of like 85 a day. In Iraq it was 70% uplift on 120k base...no per diem of worth though.

Limited taxes too

If you want bonafides I can provide. I am not a liar.

The first thing I would do is drop the Cayman. If you are leveraging yourself to the max, you can't really afford it, and moreover it isn't giving you the return on investment that you had hoped for.

OK, this advice may feel beneath you, or may not suit your strengths, but here is what a friend did when faced with a somewhat similar situation. He was an intelligent, educated, accomplished man that didn't quite fit in. The usual paths just didn't seem to be working, everything just seemed fake and superficial and meaningless. But he was smart enough to realize that if a bullshit currency has value with the people you need, it gains value for you. In addition to his respectable 6 figure day job, he became a doorman at a popular night club. He has good at it (weight lifting and martial arts fanatic, good attitude, good demeanor). He tended to get gigs at the most exclusive places in town, with the hottest talent. He was a rational man, in an irrational world, so he carved out a place for himself where he got rewarded for doing rational things he was good at and loved to do (being the warrior-protector archetype). None of the normal club posturing and douchebaggery had ever made any sense to him, so he found a place there that made sense, but was still surrounded by beautiful women. He suddenly got an entirely irrational amount of high quality ass for the job he was doing.

If society is valuing club hosts and the illusory power of a doorman over the skills that make a civilized society function, you've got to figure out a strategy that gets the best out of both worlds.
