hey Putin lovers-He "offered to divide Ukraine with Poland"-Polish ex-minister
Nobody accuses Russian president Putin of thinking small, but don't you Putin lover even find this a little odious?

"Putin offered to divide Ukraine with Poland - Polish ex-minister"

WARSAW, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed to Poland's then leader that they divide Ukraine between themselves as far back as 2008, Poland's parliamentary speaker Radoslaw Sikorski said in an interview published by the U.S. Politico website.

According to Sikorski, who until September served as Poland's Foreign Minister, Putin made the proposal during Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk's visit to Moscow in 2008.

"He wanted us to become participants in this partition of Ukraine ... This was one of the first things that Putin said to my prime minister, Donald Tusk, when he visited Moscow."

"He (Putin) went on to say Ukraine is an artificial country and that Lwow is a Polish city and why don't we just sort it out together," Sikorski was quoted as saying in the interview dated Oct. 19.
Before World War Two, Poland's territory included parts of today's western Ukraine, including some major cities such as Lwow, known as Lviv in Ukraine.

According to Sikorski, who accompanied Tusk on his trip to Moscow, Tusk did not reply to Putin's suggestion, because he knew he was being recorded, but Poland never expressed any interest in joining the Russian operation.

Sikorski has come out and denied saying this. The original article was posted in 'Politico', and since being published a number of claims in it have been challenged.

agreed, this sounds like Poland saving face and not coming off as negotiating with the enemy.

Recorded by whom? And anyway, surely he was himself recording such an important meeting? Let's hear the recording thenSmile

I didn't realize there were Putin lovers here. I respect the guy for his power and attitude...

not sure I'd want him as my leader though. I'm sure he's not a nice man in the least bit. He's an ex-KGB guy...maybe that doesn't make him awful, but I'd have some reservations about it.

Who cares about being nice?

Ahmadinejad, Chavez and Putin are great leaders not because they're nice but because they are fearless, command respect and have traditional values and morals

Total and absolute crap.

Putin, who in 2008 had entire Ukraine, offered a political and military dwarf called Poland, a NATO member, to divide something with them. In fantasy does it happen ?

It's Russia bashing campaign (which by the way, goes in Poland 24/7)

Despite Putin not being ideal, is it true to say that this could easily be Russia's best period in memorable history?

Serfs, Communism, the 90s were awful. Russia is not paradise but is it better to be Russian now than 30, 60, 90, 120 years ago?

Many people are fleeing now, because now they have the right to travel abroad. People would have fled the Soviet Union more if they could.

I have heard Russian immigrants reminisce about the soviet union. Free schools, free medical care, free appartments, etc. Saying that the common people had a better life than nowadays. I dunno... He seems much better than just about any other Russian leader you could name for the people of Russia.

Or was some other time period in Russian history better for their people? I would be curious to hear which other leaders were better. Stalin? Kruschev? Lenin? Yeltsin? The Tsars?

I would never put Putin in the same category as Chavez or Ahmadinejad.

Chavez was horribly corrupt and incompetent, utterly destroying his own country despite its natural riches. It's a country whose citizens live with food rationing and the country with the highest murder rate in the world!

Ahmadinejad was more productive than Putin, but focused more on being a class clown and trolling the west than on actually doing something to improve his country. At least he's not ruining it, but that's such a low standard to be held to. Also, his dictatorial measures were short-sighted and caused a large amount of animosity towards tradition in Iran, which will certainly erupt later.

Easy for us to say who are not living there and have to deal with all the daily bullshit.
At least my friends there are far from happy or satisfied with the current situation, but of course everybody agrees that current times is a lot better than the 90's.

Then again, the old people in Russia remember Soviet days with great nostalgy.
That has to be taken with a grain of salt because people have a tendency of only remembering the good stuff and ignore the bad things.

Then again the new young generation are too young to remember the horrors of Soviet times and they are looking back on Soviet times from a different angle.
There is a reason why Stalin for example are getting more and more popular among young people. They have no experience of his methods. They look back with great pride and nostalgy on the Mighty Soviet Union and forgetting the bad stuff.
Like the ice of the cake the history lessons in Russians schools are playing their own game how it suits them. This can be dangerous.

With this kind of mixture I'd say that Russia has never been more unpredictable like it's now. Where will Russia be in 5years, 10 years? And what will happen during that time? Absolutley impossible to say.
Modern Russia is still a young country and it is behaving like a young man in his early twenties.

Russians today generally think the 1970s (Brezhnev era) were the best.

Do you have a source beyond the Daily Mail? They're known for their lies.

And yes, I totes <3 Putin. I want him for president. Sure, Obama's a better provider, but I'm an old fashioned girl who likes a guy with muscles.

That would actually make a good article. Obama as the beta male provider women settle for since they couldn't get anything better.

The reason why there is still present nostalgia for communist times in Eastern Europe, is because in communist times, you didn't have to do anything besides show up for your 8 hours work day. Army was also a great employer and source of economic and social security.

Car ? I can't afford it, but maybe some day government will give me a coupon to get in line to wait for a new Zaporozhets which will arrive in 2-3 years. If i doesn't, who cares, I'm not paying for it anyway

Healthcare ? Free

Education ? Free

Housing ? It's shitty, but hey, it's free. Certainly better than to work for it.

People who are nostalgic for Soviet times are people who would gladly again see the social model in which you do not have to put effort into absolutely anything.

Well Ukraine historically wasn't Ukraine for a very long time with the present borders that it has. It is ARTIFICIAL in the sense that the Bolsheviks defined the boundaries based on electorate seats/votes.

As for what Radoslaw Sikorski says. Really?

That guy explains why us Americans have Polish jokes. He is an 1st rate asshole and partly behind the whole UA crisis(together with Sweden, Lithuania and Estonia).

He is the polish version of Mc Cain and a hawk warmonger and a liar. He also went on the record saying that Putin wants to reform the USSR and that Putin threatened to nuke EE EU countries.

He also is one of the 3 signatories of the Feb Kiev agreement..we al lknow what his signature meant now don't we?
