Alright...

Gonna do a live update style thread during a the next weekend in San Salvador, El Salvador. In a fashion similar to this. All successes and failures will be documented here.

Papi Rico will be in El Salvador before I get there. I will be hoping to grab the flag and another notch or so in under 72 hours.

Not a ton of info on the forum about San Salvador, but here are a few resources I've checked out:

We have a hotel booked in the Escalon area of San Salvador which is supposed to be safe and good for nightlife.

Day game, night game, and checking out the Tazmul Mayan ruins are on the docket for this quick flag mission.

What up what up, ya'll. Papi Rico on the ground here.

Initial observations related to livability:
1) Security: this place definitely has an edge to it, and is perhaps not the most suitable for novice travelers/LE nomads. I however get a real kick out of seeing bouncers with AK's when entering a club. By exercising common sense, i.e. stay in a secure area (e.g. colonia escalon) and do not walk around at night, you eliminate virtually all security risk. I've spoken to expats living here for 20+ years without issue. If you speak at least intermediate Spanish and are well-travelled, security is a non-issue.

2) Climate: currently 28 with a very pleasant breeze. Ideal conditions for an afternoon date on an outdoor terrace.

3) Food: I've been eating incredibly well. Tipicos Margoth in Colonia Escalon has great national food with daily menus. Malibu Grill, also in Colonia Escalon, has quality seafood and Americanesque portions. Their fish stuffed with shrimp "Pescado relleno de camarones" is out of this world. Full meals at restaurants range from 5-15 USD.

4) Apartments: According to locals, a decent, furnished 1-bedroom can be secured for 500 USD/month on a 6-month lease. A luxury 3-bedroom in an ideal location will cost no more than 1500 USD/month. Short-term rentals are not common, so arranging a 1-month stay would require some legwork and at least basic Spanish.

5) Workspace: Haven't checked out the Regus location here yet, but am definitely feeling Viva Espresso at the Plaza Futura Mall. Lot of local businessmen and diplomats hanging out here.


How to get a Salvadorian flag in under 12 hours:
1) Disembark from plane
2) Procure a sim card from Movistar/Claro/Digicel [$1/day for unlimited data, $5/week]
3) Optional: Get on Tinder and start swiping like a maniac. In-conversation, use your Spanish if you have it, if not, that's ok.
4) With tinder date, set up a date at a bar in Zona Rosa or Multiplaza, and then venue switch to a nearby club. I went for Zona Rosa: meet-up at Zanzibar, then venue switched to Republik, which had ladies' night [Wednesday] and was packed with 7's and 8's. If rolling solo, be very friendly and make friends with locals. Interest in foreigners is on par with Colombia/Phils.
5) Take her to the dance floor. If you don't know salsa/cumbia, ask her to teach you. After 4-5 songs go to the outdoors area to isolate and kiss-close.
6) "It's getting late now, let's go watch a movie at my place". She may counter: "Ok, but no sex." Counter back: "por supuesto, mi amor".

Waiting on MP to roll in. I think he will be very pleased by tonight's game plan...

Quick update...

San Salvador is a nice city. After traveling throughout Central America for a bit now, I believe San Salvador may be the second best city in the region behind Panama City from a looks standpoint. It certainly surpasses San Jose and Managua in this regard.

However, the city seems to be a bit dangerous. You don't want to walk anywhere at night and everyone seems to take taxis or hire a private driver to have on call.

Last night, Papi Rico and I hit up couple nightlife spots. Zanibar in Zona Rosa for a pre-game bottle that was only $35. We didn't stay long after working on the bottle, but the place seems to be a good spot to meet girls in groups later in the night.

We also checked out a club that was packed in the Multiplaza. I can't remember the name, but the place was a good time. Papi Rico had a couchsurfing chick with him. I found a pretty girl who was driving me wild with her dancing. Made out and danced for an hour or so with her, but couldn't get her back to the telly sadly.

Today...

I just captured the flag off a Tinder bang that took all of 7 minutes from meet to bang around noon. Solid tip drill. Huge titties, but the face was slightly lackluster.

Off to date number 2 of the day. Then going to get a quick workout in with Papi Rico before heading out again.

Sickest day game spot in San Salvador = in the Plaza Futura mall, there is a small coffee shop called "House of Coffee". It has outdoor seating, including a round table immediately in front of the entrance to the mall's bathrooms.

So we got a bit too comfortable in El Salvador...

And Papi Rico and I just got jumped...

Went to the park one block from our hotel to get a workout in. The basketball court was surrounded by a chain link fence. Immediately 5 high school aged kids come jump us. We didn't have anything on us, but Papi Rico got tripped up on a ledge and went to the ground and the fuckers got his shoes. They tried to take mine, but I took off once I saw Papi Rico was back on his feet and followed closely behind.

Fucking scary for the both of us as this was the first time anything like this has happened to either of us.

It was a dumb gringo move of us to go to the park at night, but luckily nothing too bad happened.

Chalk it up to the game. We are headed out again in a few for another night of partying.

Charge it to the game man, you're lucky that there was only a pair of shoes lost between the both of you, as you know, it could have been a lot worse. I've had similar things happen to me, where I came out relatively unscathed in a situation that could have been a lot worse, consider it a lesson learned. As much as traveling and partying in 3rd world shit holes can be fun, they can get real really quick and its best not to present opportunity to desperate people, which is likely what happened to you guys tonight. Enjoy the rest of the trip, El Salvador is an under reported destination on here, and I hope you guys will continue the live updates but be careful fellas.

I banged a 5 tonight. There was nothing that could sustain my boner other than a straight rabbit fucking post blow job.

We met at the club and I was going after her hot friend, but her friend was not about that life. So I switched gears after a few too many vodkas...

It's been a weird day here in San Salvador. 2 notches and getting jumped provided an interesting day to say the least.

May check out the Mayan ruins around here too.

The best nightlife spot in San Salvador seems to be the club at Multiplaza mall. It's filled every night and girls are open to meeting men. Anyone who checks out San Salvador needs to visit that club as often as possible.

Definitely going to charge it to the game. It was a mistake on our part and I feel lucky we got out of the situation with only a pair of shoes lost.

We told our tale to a few local dudes and they all just kept saying, "Never walk!" or "Don't walk anywhere even during the day." So we made a mistake and paid a small price for it. Live and learn.

Very much appreciate the honesty in this journal, some trip tales give the impression that dudes have a cabal of dimes waiting for them at the airport, and they spend their entire trip having threesomes with chicks would could appear on the cover of King.

The robbery: Thanks to all those who expressed concern. As MP reported, we were jumped by 5 mara youngsters who saw an opportunity when 2 white boys, dressed in exercise gear, entered their park, which resembled a giant cage. The place was well-lit, with several people circulating around, and was just 100m away from a major embassy and no more than 300m away from one of the poshest malls in the country. Our mistake was in thinking that the park was for public use; it seems that we entered someone's territory. Again, we were glad to compromise a pair of athletic shoes and a few kicks to the back. In retrospect, we were very happy that we did not escalate the situation, because given our relative sizes, the 2 of us would have knocked out these 5 punks in a matter of seconds. They were packing nothing more than a pen and a couple of wooden kebab skewers, but they wanted us to believe they had heat. Ironically, we went against the advice I explicitly posted just days ago, which I will now reiterate to anyone visiting San Salvador: do not walk around at night, anywhere. Anyways, Charge it to the game!

Notwithstanding the above drama, I maintain that San Salvador is a solid destination for us location-independent nomads and weekend warriors. The women here are truly top-notch in terms of all metrics used on this forum. MP and I found that, while it's very difficult to get the elite girls from a weekend siege, the opportunities are endless for those with solid social circle game and housing arrangements.

We have (nearly) conclusively identified the best night spots for both (i) a weekend siege and (ii) pulling elite girls. I will be checking out a few more places prior to writing up a final trip recap, which will include these as a well as a breakdown of notches and costs.

By the way, we took a short day tour yesterday, and the natural surroundings here are mind-blowing.

Don't be so sure they aren't packing heat.
I had a not dissimilar situation once in Venezuela.
Got robbed by 5 or 6 youngsters who surrounded me when I took refuge under an awning on a side street during a sudden downpour. I told them to fuck off, one of them punched me. So I reflexively smashed him in the face, flattening his nose and sending him down. Very quickly I found myself with a gun to the side of my head. They emptied my pockets, and then proceeded to beat me up badly at gun point. Fucking cowards/savages. Just like City of God, they do NOT give a fuck. On the bright side, they only got my decoy wallet, and the medical care afterwards was relatively cheap.
I still don't know why they didn't just shoot me. Maybe they were out of ammo.
I can't count the number of times I had given advice to people and told them not to resist a robbery in Latin America, just makes it worse, give them some money and be done with it, etc etc.

I appreciate the data posted in this thread and it is providing the forum with some much needed information on a very underrated country. If you stick to the malls, nightclubs, restaurants, and bars and only travel in taxis de confianza, I see zero safety issues. I get the sense that you guys know that now. Also, I know this may sound very basic and ridiculous, but make sure your clothes are ironed at all times. Salvadoran girls, like ticas, will take notice of that and it may be more important in El Salvador than anywhere else. Do you guys have any recommendations for hotels and apartments close to the nightlife and malls? Do you know which hotels allow guests? Do you guys plan on seeing any other parts of the country? Santa Rosa de Lima, which is in the La Union Department, is supposed to have tons of talent. It also has tons of deported MS-13, so you have to be extra careful.

Merenguero, we concur with your security assessment and related advice at this point.

The clothes ironing tip is spot on as well. One of my girls saw me take a bunch of shirts out of a backpack and nearly fainted when I tried to put one on. She then told me that a wrinkled shirt brought my appearance down from 'super guapo' to 'solo guapo'.

This trip was simply to scope the place out, so we did not have time to visit other departments.

We stayed at one place the whole time, very close to a major mall and a short taxi ride to all nightlife. We had no problems bringing visitors back at all hours of the day/night. Anyone reading, please PM either of us for the recommendation when you need it.

Glad to hear you guys are alright. Guys, never make a confrontation with people that are jumping you, even if are kids or if they don't like they are armed. It is just not worth it.

On another note, make sure you guys try the Pupusas if you haven't already!

I like pupusas revueltas the best. Salvadoran pupusas are smaller, but better than Honduran pupusas. It sounds like they already tried the pupusas (That joke may go over people's heads).

Still not sure what Gringo's are doing late at night in Sal Salvador, but if you're not gonna be location aware at least try to stand up to yourselves. Hope Mike Valley (one of the greatest 80s skateboarders) will inspire you next time in a confrontation

Mexican people are hated with a passion down there and although I'm from the U.S. my Mexican Spanish accent gives it away. Still willing to go there and game me some Salvadorenas.

Yeah I should know better as a person who gets bombarded with fear mongering on Mexican cartels from friends and family every time I go to Mexico. I go anyway regardless. The people who tell me are just Mexicans who have had experiences with Salvadorians in the U.S. There's like a big gripe between both countries, similar with the whole Japan and China thing.

I should go, and I have no idea why I haven't gone yet. Its not that more expensive than Mexico in terms of flying. I should give it a try next year and squeeze it in with my schedule.

Thanks for your contribution, buddy. Humor or not, comments like this deter accurate reporting on this forum. We didn't create this thread to solicit judgments on the propriety of our conduct, but to faithfully report our experience to inform the community. As you can see, MP and I have no problem admitting a lapse in judgment or to having banged a 5. We can only hope that others will continue to do the same.

I was pretty sure I knew the answer to my question, but was just looking for confirmation. It's funny how people who never visit a particular place often act like they are the world's foremost experts on that place. I deal with Salvadorans day in and day out and I don't know if I have ever heard any of them say anything negative about Mexico or Mexicans. I don't know how easy/cheap it is to get to El Salvador from Chicago, but it is cheap and convenient to get there from the D.C. area. It's one of the most popular international destinations and Taca runs many direct flights daily from Dulles to San Salvador. Everywhere I have been in Central American has been much easier than Mexico and has had equal or better talent. There's something that puts me at a huge disadvantage in Mexico that I for some reason am unable to figure out.
