I haven't seen much written about this, and it is mostly relevant to guys that have recently moved to a new city and are looking to expand their social circle, find interesting things to do, and potentially translate this expenditure of energy into new lays.

How would you look at these sorts activities as possible venues to date new girls? On the one hand, if you played it cool and just focused on making friends, you could build some attraction with some of the girls you come into contact with, although this takes investment. The advantage is you have the potential to demonstrate significant social and physical skills, depending upon the activity.

On the other hand, if your goal is to expand your social circle, then you want to present a positive image the whole way through, which includes being smooth if you ask a girl out... and to be very cognizant of IOI's. If your new to a social circle, the more you have to prove. So you can't ever come off as weird.

I had some moderate success running this model when I lived in Denver, but haven't touched it sense, and can't offer much advise other than: If you want to use this as a game strategy as well as a networking oppurtunity, you have to be hyper aware of the social environment you're working in.

Fresh off college (engineering degree), many of my friends either moved to another country to study their master's, got into serious relationships, funded their startups or dissapeared from my radar. Besides them, I had my highschool buddies, but honestly I grew at a way faster pace (considering I was the only one of the group to have gone as an exchange student to Europe). They either dropped out of college, started working dead-end jobs or became deadbeats.

It was clear to me that I had to find a new social circle or else I would be drawn by my former friends' mediocrity. I had to start fresh.

Somehow I found Meetup.com and Internations.org

1) Meetup.com is good to find groups to pursue common interests such as hiking, languages, wine tasting, coding and what not. It is good for networking, finding work and discovering new places. Most of the crowd are older people, around 30. The young ones are either oddballs, nerds or hipsters, rarely cute girls. Perhaps it is my local community, your results may vary.

In the end, if you happen to find a cute girl, you have to be extremely smooth to game her, or else the white knights/orbiters will cockblock you or call out out, ruining your reputation in the groups. Today, I only attend bussiness related meetups for networking, if at all.

2) Internations.org - Perhaps the biggest expat community around. It arranges weekly events at each main city, gathering big groups of foreigners and nationals together (sometimes more than 150 people). Venues include bars, restaurants, lounges, hotel pool parties, freshly opened nightclubs, etc. It is great in the sense you can find very interesting people from all around the world. I have met bankers, bussinessmen, artists, photographers, dancers, teachers, PR agents, to name a few. The average age is around 28, with the occasional 22 yr old cutie to the 45 yr old divorced cougar.

The true value for me has finding great male friends to form my ratpack, mostly guys older than me but quite active, masculine, well-traveled and in some cases game-aware (!). They are also there to get laid and meet new people for their social circle.

The good thing is that as you go to more and more events, you get to know more people that you may have not had the chance to talk to in past events. There are many regulars. Also, most approaches are warm and not cold (as in house parties).

The downside is that the regular crowd makes it very likely that you will again meet the girls you approached, gamed, laid or dumped in previous events. Reputation can be tricky.

I had read somewhere that every social networking site is an online dating site, in the sense that you use to meet new people or keep cin touch with them.

In my personal opinion, the best way to use these two social networks (and similar others) is to move outside your confort zone and meet new inspiring people to widen your social circle. Once you begin forming a big network of FRIENDS, throw parties and invite everybody. Make new connections, introduce people, pair guys with girls. Believe me, girls with come to meet the guys who make all this happen.

It takes time, but it is fun and enjoyable. I believe cold approaching is a cornerstone of game, but friendship and a social circle are cornerstones for life.

I thought about joining a local coed softball league in my area for some potential hookups. I went to the leagues website and looked at the team pics and saw that most of the women in the league were hot messes. 50% were fatties, 30% had the butch look and the remaining 20% ranged from low 4's to barely 6. Like someone mentioned, the women are there for hookups also. So, I'm sure most of the barely 6's have been run through like the Holland Tunnel.

I stopped there, I can imagine what the coed Basketball and flag Football women look like

In my community there is an old american man (surely beyond 65) who plays the Most Interesting Man In The World game, mixed with sugar daddy game (poppin' bottles with cute girls). I respect that persistence.

Besides, the most popular rich girls that organize the events are there to make money, connections and eventually hunt a high value male to get married. They are "nice" but most of the men know these girls won't put out, so we focus on the newcomers to the community.

Smooth game and dressing extra sharp helps. There are all kinds of guys, even guys who have their shit together but dress like herbs.

Is there any benefit to pay for premium access to InterNations (albatross or whatever they call it?). I know they have discounts and probably exclusive events, but never tried it.

I have had more success with these types of groups than with pub/ club game or online game.

The blend of online and real life seems to suit me.

From my experience Internations is hit or miss. First of all it is not free, to post anything or join private events you have to be a paying member, secondly this site tends to attract overly serious, career-driven women, which is not necessarily a good thing if one is looking just for easy-going happy hour type events. So, if you pay money you expect at least some value out of the product. I made a the mistake of paying for internations and joining their Washington, DC chapter. I would say 80% of the meetups I can care less for as they tend to be more along the lines of business networking events or some book event at embassy of XYZ...the others such as a tennis meetup or Russian conversation hour had few show-ups and they were mediocre looking.

Instead I would recommend meetup.com language exchange groups as they have better talent.

I just joined up a bunch of meetup.com groups (that I would join even if not for the women).

Since I live in a large city, some of them have cool-sounding volleyball meet-ups on weekends. Moreover, the young people's groups give me free entry to certain new nightclubs if I RSVP. Will check out and report.

It's actually great if you yourself are invested in the activity and not too keen on cold approaching day or night game. The quality tends to be higher too and it's easier to get to know a girl.

However there's a lot more bullshit involved in social circle game. Others have already pointed out. If you don't like drama and only want fast bangs, forget about it.

Social circle game can easily become a crutch. I know because I'm guilty. Truest and purest form of game is cold approaching. That's where your real mettle is tested.

Was just checking it out after you mentioned it. Seems intriguing because you can search for penpals based on "looking for." Some (attractive) girls put down friendship, romance, and relationship as options.

Would you game girls in your city and/or girls in places you plan to visit in the future? Seems like it might be a waste of time if you spend forever writing and find the girl is not DTF when you finally meet up.

I can cosign on what TripleG wrote. Lots of career driven women, bunch of spinsters. Few young coeds sprinkled here and there.

@dalaran1991: Indeed, one friend runs the local Internations Movie Club, that gives him a position of leadership. And yes, I agree that social circle game is less efficient, but from what I see it gives you access to the top talent, inaccessible through plain cold approaching.

Im about to sign up for a spring volleyball and softball league. I was thinking, surely these sorts of things were a way people met each other in the pre online dating days, and surely guys with no game shacked up with girls this way.

I'm thinking the best way to avoid drama is to: 1) only go after girls who are almost certainly into you; 2) Start off inviting the girl to do something fairly benign with you outside the group, like indoor climbing or taking the dog to the park; and 3) If the non-group interaction goes well and she seems genuinely interested, straight up ask her out on a date, and if she agrees, run normal game from there.

This is a much different way then I handle girls I meet online or at a bar, but I think this would preclude you from getting shit from other girls (and some guys) in the group.

I have used that site and met 4 or 5 girls on there. The problem is a lot of girls on there are single...and they are just looking for attention. There are a lot of lonely people on there. But, there are foreign girls that are looking to meet a foreign man. It is just the frame of mind you have to have. I was depressed and it showed. If you are confident and just want to live life and meet new people. They will come to you. But, that is how it is with any woman.

I am pretty much in a similar situation and am considering using the Meetup app for groups like 'Social adventures' that focus on socialising and they meetup for trivias or just chatting in a bar. The above post sounds like this may not be a good idea for gaming. I have had a few similar experiences where there were young and more older women but they mostly came with their partners or were there to have a catch up with friends before going off to meet their partner.

I would like to hear your experiences if it is really worth hitting these events hard on a consistent basis? Have you got any results so far? Or would cold approaching as in daygame be a better choice? Especially in a smaller city of lesser than 100K.

Do not use Meetup for the purpose of meeting girls. You're unlikely to find cute girls at a Meetup event. Cute girls do what's cool, and Meetup is not cool. If you find a Meetup that's something you'd want to do anyway, by all means go for it, and maybe there'll be a cute girl or two as an added bonus, but don't count on it.

It's important to consider efficiency when thinking of ways to meet girls. Online dating is efficient because it doesn't require you to even leave your home until you have a date set up. Night game is efficient because you're at a venue where cute girls concentrate themselves. Day game is efficient because you're not going out of your way; you're just going about your life and chatting up girls who cross your path. Meetup is not a remotely efficient method to meet girls.

I used to have a boss in his mid 50's that cleaned up with meeup.com in 2006-2008, mainly with girls 10-15 years younger than him. I haven't had that kind of luck with it myself, but I moved to a different city and think it has more to do with the location than the site going downhill.

To be fair my former boss was in great shape, drove a Porsche and had a dominant masculine personality, he probably would have succeeded in any social venue but preferred fitness and art meetups. Almost all the meetup.com things in my area are for technology or minority interest, not a lot that appeals to me. I wonder if the cool groups moved to a different site.

So I guess it follows that meetups specifically geared towards socialising are also not worth the time?
Makes me wonder if these social meetups are just for friends and couples to catch up with their greater friend circle. This would then mean that girls will be wary of their reputation in this kind of setting.

Anyway, platforms of this nature typically have an adversely selected user base, i.e. those who have trouble making friends the conventional way. As a result, they are not viewed as cool or hip, and hotties usually want nothing to do with them.

Disclaimer: I'm speaking about my experience in a non-urban area where most young adults are natives who still hang out with their high school cliques. I could see it being different in a major city full of transplants.

I am in a small 'city' of less than 100K where cliques are very strong. That was why I was wondering if this app had potential but it does not look like it. How do you then propose that newcomers get to know the local ladies of decent quality (apart from night life, which wont be good for a small city anyway)?

Meetup.com is much better in larger cities that are full of transplants. I tried it in a small town, and it was shit. When I lived in Denver and Vegas, I met a bunch of cool people, and some hot girls attended certain events. There are simply more options in bigger cities, especially ones like Denver, Atlanta, LA and Vegas where a large portion of people aren't from there.

As for meeting local women outside of bars and nightclubs? If your town has a Target, I'd start there and just cold approach. There is always talent there, even in small towns. Any local coffee shops or hangout spots are good places to meet people too. Unfortunately, a lot of small towns aren't quite with the times, or lack the sheer volume of other cities, so it becomes harder to break in. I'd also consider talking to any bartenders or coworkers who have lived there a long time. They are usually aware of local happenings and can point you in the right direction. Sometimes they may even invite you to a party or event and introduce you to other locals.

Meetup clubs (like WAKA and other sports clubs) are definitely top notch places to meet chicks and develop friendships with like-minded guys. You want to go a little slow in that you should be able to read the environment and understand the personalities. I was able to snag a few dates and make good friends but it takes awhile (a few weeks at least) to build rappaport but the time investment is worth it.
