There is too much missing information here for me to make much more of a recommendation. I don't suggest fighting him the way the others are. you fight the battles where you have the advantage, not where the other guy has the advantage. I mean i guess you could sucker punch him, bring weapons or whatever, but that would hardly solve anything long term, he would likely just escalate shit and get friends to help him really do a number on you because you were attacking him/suckerpunching him whatever.

what i would do? ( and take steps that you don't get caught.) Take a shit in a bag and leave it on his car with a note saying that he is now a member of 'the poop group' and must go and take a shit in a bag and leave it on someone random's car.

Sure you can get his phone number and sign him up for all sorts of gay websites like grindr or whatnot. Sure this would make you feel better, but doesn't really solve the problem. Don't let anything he does affect you, just go about your business and ignore him completely. Guys like this generally hate being ignored. This is assuming you have tried and exhausted all means of getting your stuff back. Chalk it up about losing the stuff, but again, i am still not sure why you even think he took something of yours. need more information.

edit. Assuming there is some sort of serial number on the heart rate monitor, and you have some sort of proof of purchase, go to the cops and file a report, explain what happened, you can prove the item of value is actually yours. though I doubt that will actually get your shit back. Definitely file a complaint with the gym, provide them with the relevant details(photocopy of the receipt etc).

Don't loan those sorts of things out in the future.

You need to find out more about this guy. Do your homework, beyond what he appears to look like. Know thy enemy.

You might confront and be able to beat him up, but so what, you think he'll leave it at that? He'll come back, often with help. And he can attack you from behind, when you least expect it. You need to know what you're truly dealing with and whether it's worth it over a heart rate monitor.

I sometimes go to this gym in my city where roided up guys are not just simple gym meatheads, but many of them are also in bikie gangs and the likes. You don't want to fuck with them.

Personally I'd chalk this one up as stupidity fee for the school of life.

Your problem isn't that this guy is bigger than you. Your problem is that you lack confidence and the ability to defend yourself.
Go learn to fight and learn that size means little if the other guy is well trained.
Take this as an opportunity to recognize your weakness and go improve yourself.

Follow him home. Come back a few days later at night, smear shit all over his car's windshield (bonus points for the backside of his doorhandles) and slash his tires. Switch gyms. Make sure you have a good alibi, and if you do decide on retaliation method, stop talking about how he wronged you and plot revenge.

Also interesting how he cut off his dick, essentially made him blind and finished it off by breaking his neck. Size does not matter so much in a real fight if weapons come into play and crotches, eyes, ears get targeted. A real fight does not even adhere to MMA rules - let alone boxing. I was once in a school fight where a guy got me in a choke grip (the guy later became a semi-pro kickboxing fighter), but I got a hand in there and he was not able to really choke me at all - thus only keeping me in place. I was stronger and taller than him and I just stood up with him in tow. I even started to get on top of a desk - next maneuver would be to throw myself down and potentially crush him underneath me. However I thought better than that, because such a move might have even killed him. So I let it go, but a part of me wanted to do it, because I had to concede defeat in a way. But should I have popped his eye out Game-of-Thrones-style just for a stupid school brawl?

A man has to know when to let things go. Many criminals behind bars simply lack that kind of wisdom.

The answer to this question is extremely simple. Write off your loss, and if the gym management won't rein this guy in, switch gyms. I personally would only involve the police if the guy was seriously threatening me, so if it came down to physical defense and I had to shoot him or slice him up I'd have a legal record to back up my self defense claim.

I can't fucking believe so many people are saying you should risk your health and freedom over something a stupid as having a guy steal a $200 gadget and disrespecting you.

Welcome to real life, where lots of people are douchebags. Take the loss as a lesson learned and move on out to greener pastures. It's a lot cheaper than being potentially crippled or killed, or spending time in jail and getting a violent criminal record which will fuck up your career prospects forever. Not to mention dealing with a civil suit if you seriously hurt or kill the guy.

As to those of you in the thread who are saying the OP should turn this into a fight, seriously, grow up. Violence has its place but it sure as fuck is not over a few words and a few hundred dollars long after the theft already occurred. "Feeling better about yourself" is a really fucking stupid reason to escalate a high risk, no reward situation.

I think you need to learn this lesson. Don't lend stuff to people who haven't proven to be of solid character and who have a track record of being responsible.

You have the most responsibility here. You are getting mad at this guy for not behaving like you would. You haven't stated that you had any indication that this guy would behave like you would, so ultimately you should be upset at yourself more than upset at him. Shitty thing to do, but what do you expect from someone who is obviously shitty?

He did not steal the item, you gave it to him.

This is a lesson I've had to learn the hard way to the tune of a whole lot more than your ~$100 gym tool. I really don't know what advice to give you regarding confronting the guy, retaliating, or going the police route, but understand that there are repercussions to all of them which you'll have to weigh. The most important thing is that you learn this lesson before it's something way more valuable you loan out.

Do you have proof that he stole it? is it of monetary value?

If so, call the cops! If he is a thief that means he is a criminal and committed a larceny. Tough guys don't commit larcenies! Criminals do!

It isn't your job to stand up to criminals. He stopped being a bully the moment he stole imho!

Besides after you train to kick his ass, than what? He probably will still not give you back your item. It won't stop him from stealing from someone else either. So basically the criminal is still on the loose.

If you actually gave it to him the cops may not want to touch this and tell you to go to civil court though.

However if you called the cops and you got him to admit he borrowed it and he is keeping it, which he might do since he is STUPID, most cops will tell him to give it or they will knock his head in. 80% of police work is acting!

Is this guy really worth a rap sheet and a jail sentence? Fuck that drama.

If he's really being an ass, bring it to the owner's attention. If the owner doesn't care, go to another gym, they're a dime a dozen, and going out of business all the time.

A creative response is photoshopping the gym's letterhead and making the letter you wish the owner would write: State in vague, unactionable terms that because of excessive member complaints, effective immediately his membership is cancelled and he is no longer welcome at the gym.

Be sure to put CONFIDENTIAL at the top. People with an excessive obedience complex will obey this as well and not talk about why they were kicked out, or even try to dispute it. Obey!

Don't forge any real person's signature, since forgery is illegal. Just make up a reasonable sounding staff person's name that doesn't exist (so they can't call that person up at home and independently verify) and sign for them, or google "signature" until you find a fake one you like the sound of and photoshop that onto your termination letter.

Drop it in the mail to his home from the same post office the gym uses.

The hardest part is remaining cool, distant and uninterested in the results. Unless you're a good poker player and can manage your tell, don't try this. It's probably breaking some laws if you're found out.
