250 euros in BCN for a whole afternoon (he bought a portable lighting setup too), 5+ venues (walked around town to spots he decided on + some shots in random spots as we walked), 3 outfit changes. After processing ended up with 8 solid photos. Not bad. I emphasised that the photos should look as incidental as possible, also was upfront with him about online dating usage and he was chill with it.

Deleted Tinder recently to eliminate one more distraction from work over the break, but will get a new account up in the next few weeks and test what difference it makes.

In that case I have to say that you have entirely missed the point of the excellent OP. There is a literal world of difference between mobile phone cameras, 'point-and-shoots', and the equipment that the pros use.
A sailing trip could be a minefield of great action shots, but not without the right gear and an experienced photographer.

There's no rule. Just keep in mind the two points below:

1. Use the color scheme that portrays you in the BEST way possible. As a photographer, the colors on a picture can be messed up for a variety of reasons (light bulbs were too orange or too blueish, white balance was messed up, scene was too dark). If you have a picture you look great in but the colors are messed up or overall it's too grainy due to the exposure, one way to (try to) save it when editing is to turn it to BW. But non arty chicks will gravitate more to your story versus some generic dude.

As a shortcut, a player has to think about who is marketing to his chick and how they're doing it.

So - what kind of girls are you targetting?

If your profile is geared towards club rats, there's no added value to having a BW picture.

If your profile is geared towards a romantic, artsy, 20-year old graphic design student... then yeah, maybe it could be a bonus.

Don't think about if this picture is good, or that picture is better, or which way to use them.

Instead, do the reverse - figure out who you're going after and display youself in an appealing way to that specific niche.

So I've pulled the trigger on getting in touch with a photographer for Wednesday. I should've done this years ago, but with the prospect of starting a couple of new jobs, I reckon I'd be able to splash out.

I did that, and had 6 photographers reply or message me in the first hour, linking their portfolios. I picked one and arranged a shoot for Wednesday over a few messages.

My city has a massive creative scene, so there's no shortage of photographers, picking the right one can be tricky. I used Blurred's quotes to decide a price, he seemed to be happy with the AUD$325-350 ballpark, I hope I wasn't too hasty with suggesting a price range.

Despite being able to tell which one suited my needs best based on their portfolios, with the amount of options, it's tempting to organise another shoot with another photographer. I probably will later if I've got another few hundred dollars to spare.

Now for the finer details:

My city has a shit tonne of feasible locations, so deciding on a few will be mind boggling. Beaches, mountains on the outskirts, railway yards, rooftops, you name it. When I did my TFP prints, they were in gardens, which I found came across as too contrived. I might go for a balcony or rooftop. The outside of my old house has a very vintage flavour and people have used it for photoshoots, so I might go with that. Any other suggestions?

I'm muscular enough that it shows without a shirt, but I'm not jacked per se. Should that be an issue? I'm a bit on a fence regarding a shirtless pic.

I gave this a shot and my online game literally changed overnight. I read that Blurred isn't around anymore but a +1 regardless, this was invaluable. I have an incredible amount of leads, so many that I almost can't even keep up with texting/messaging (thumbs are getting sore). Even got some girls pushing for dates day of or within a couple days. This absolutely cannot be understated. If you want a frame of reference, just take a look at what the vast majority of guys put up for their pics - lame-ass selfies. I am not even that good looking (just somewhat fit with a non-busted face). I paid $200 for a photographer which led to a 1 hour photo session with 2 outfits, and it took her just shy of two weeks to provide me with 10 photos. Practically speaking I only use one of those photos for online game, the rest are for mom and grandma to frame. Two professional pics would be over doing it (and I wouldn't recommend it be black and white), so I just do 1 as my main, and follow up the rest with stuff like doing cool stuff or out partying.

Regarding the post above by JWLZG - I would put faith in the photographer to select the location. They should ask you questions gauging your personality and pick one of several places they normally shoot at. Mine was at a college campus but you couldn't tell from the pics - looks good regardless. As for shirt on or off depends what you want. If you have the body to pull it off, shirtless will pull ho's expecting to fuck the moment you (or they) show up. Shirt on will pull slightly less slutty and more normal/stable girls. Average ages will also differ. Being in my late 20s with a shirt on I'm mostly getting leads from girls over 25. If you're in your late 20s with shirt off (and the body to do it) you'll probably start pulling more from the under 25 crowd. There's probably more variables in play than just shirt on or off but that's just my observation.

Did you go with an editorial photographer? And how did you approach the photographer? Did you tell her that you were looking for photos to shore up your online dating?

Yes she was an editorial photographer. And yes I straight up told her it was for online dating/apps. Definitely don't hide that from them since they may know things that could help. What I would also recommend, which I wish I would've done, is to just practice faces in front of the mirror - like your 'O' face But seriously, practice full smiles, half smiles, or whatever other face you think would best attract women and try to get some muscle memory going in your face so you remember it. I didn't do it so I was making faces in the blind (usually they tell you 'full smile' or 'half smile') and I could have probably done a little better if I prepared. Also don't be afraid to lend suggestions to the photographer. For instance, most of us look better at a certain angle, for me it's if the angle is slightly positive (camera above me). Additionally, you may need to emphasize to them that you want pictures where you don't look directly at the camera. I did this, and my main picture is one where she incorporated those two suggestions.

Edit: I got in touch with her through a friend. However what I'm seeing is that Facebook and social media is a good way to find these smaller photographers that aren't ridiculously expensive, but still know what they're doing. Keep in mind that this was in a tier 2 city.

Well, I was unable to get a pro dude, but with a friend we grabbed a DSLR and waited for a good sun angle. Took some pics and selected one.

Replaced in Tinder and I could notice how the reaction changes.

I spent months trying to use the best opener possible, but with this experiment, I was able to get the reaction I wanted regardless whatever stupid things I type.



Some times, what I say does not even make sense.

So we completed the shoot today. I was pretty pressed for time, so he was happy to split it up over 2 days.

Initially, I thought I'd jumped to the gun in selecting him straight away, rather than going through each individual photographer and messaging them before settling on one.

But we turned out to click really well. I was honest about wanting to use my photos for apps, so he was understanding about my needs, and shot accordingly.

He came prepared, didn't like to use a tripod or other stands, and was ace and manipulating and working with natural light. All in all, we spent just over 3 hours over 5 separate locations near my university, with loads of poses at each. He did have these locations on lockdown after all, upon my suggesting a couple of other venues nearby.

He's got a photojournalism background, so he's used to working with deadlines. He promised no more than a 48 hour turnaround to get my photos back to me. He's really chill — one of the coolest photographers I've worked with.

I'm really looking forward to putting them into action. I'll mix them up with a couple of "real-life" photos I've got — both of them professionally taken too — one from sailing and the other from fencing. Soon, I'll try to get a pic of me and a dog, and a shirtless one when I have a bit more muscle definition (within a month).

I want to pop these on Happn on Sunday, when I'll be at a music festival where loads of hot girls will be attending.

Decided to drop the money on a well known photographer whos worked with celebrities in NYC, gave him my ideas, said it was cool and that he can definetly make it work. I was upfront with my intentions for these photos, and he was completely cool with it.

And yes, my photographer did an awesome job with lighting. I look way more buff on my picture than in real life. Another reason to tell them straight up that it's for dating apps.

I've been using photofeeler for 2 months and I have similar observations with the guy who wrote that article.

However, I have to make 2 observations:

1. The guy only used 10 votes to test each one of his photos. That is way too little to get an accurate assesment of your photos.

2. I'm not sure how well the ratings on photofeeler correlate with success on dating apps like tinder. I also noticed that when I am smiling all my ratings go up significantly, but I'm not sure that a smile would make the same difference on tinder. For a long time I've had a photo that photofeeler was telling me that it has a horrible expression, but at the same time it was made with a dslr and my face structure looked good and it was getting me plenty of matches.

Bottom line, photofeeler is probably not going to give you the accurate description of your photos that you want for dating apps or instagram. Nevertheless, it is still better than nothing and for sure there are some things to learn from it.

Also gotta remember it's not the quality or the angle necessarily, it's the content as well.

Research and online polling by dating sites has proven that you need:
- one face shot of you looking ahead by yourself with a smile not showing teeth
- a picture of you participating in some kind of sports or activity
- picture of you enjoying a night out
- candid shots(shots that look natural with no posing)
- 1 black and white pic

These were deemed turn-offs:
- selfie or bathroom selfie(even worse)
- grainy pics
- beach pics(I was surprised by this)
- pics with sunglasses
- pics of you posing with other girls besides your sister or mother.

Once again these are general guidelines that appeal to the masses as being safe and neutral to most. YMMV

So I wanted to give the original author mad props. I hired an editorial photographer and had some pics taken. I was trying to get my Tinder profile ready for Kiev, Ukraine. The final pictures ended up looking pretty decent.

I knew that the pro pics would yield me better results but I did not realized HOW MUCH better. I'm getting matches with girls who I think are seriously out of my league here in Kiev. Sometimes I wonder if I am getting catfished or something.
