Slightly off topic but the old Mongolia as Russian conquerors argument is pretty irrelevant and a straw man.
It's too ancient history to change anything. Unless our technology degrades back to a point where a mounted archer is again the ultimate military unit, Mongolia will never be a significant power again.
The whole reason for Mongol supremacy was the fact that their lifestyle led them to daily practice two most valuable military skills of ancient times from early childhood - horse riding and archery, two skills that only a few social classes were practicing everywhere else and almost never together, but all mongols practiced them both together from infancy. There was never a cultural, social, religious or genetic ground for their success. In fact they very pretty disorganized and it took an exceptional person - Genghis Khan to unite them for the brief time they ruled. After that they just broke apart and assimilated into lands they themselves conquered, leaving some damage but no legacy to the world.
Mongols were a fluke. Normally strong militaries are impossible to raise without a special ideology and smart social engineering. Also genetics and "nations spirit" the way the nation perceives itself makes huge difference.
Russians have a very strong national spirit - something that is hated in this age of multiculturalism, but every European nation had a strong national spirit before the WWII. In WWII the German and to a lesser extend all other European national spirits were broken pawing the way for the global multicultural world that sees today's Russia as a Dinosaur with it's national spirit as a relict that is inappropriately and offensively still persisting. The Russians saved their national identity in WWII and therefore they can say they won this war despite suffering the greatest losses. They also are still not over this war it's still in their genes and in their collective memories.
The Russians have a sense of national, masculine and cultural pride therefore they are better prepared for conflict then NATO despite inferior military technology. I predict NATO will face disintegration unless it's countries raise their morale by eliminating their multiculturalism and stop worshiping minorities.

Excellent post.
Most of the world's politics can be explained by United States' paranoia for a Russian invasion. We are talking about 28 NATO states that USA is funding just for that, not to mention many terrorist organizations that ended up striking US in the end. I mentioned something I found interesting in an earlier thread:

Read Operation Gladio, USA created secret agencies of guerrilla force in most NATO countries that would form militias and organize total war in those countries in case of a Soviet invasion. They had/have branches in Belgium, France, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Turkey and U.K. The one in Turkey was named Counter-Guerrilla and it's responsible from tens of assassinations, bombings and hundreds of killings of the socialists in Turkey during the cold war. In fact, one of the guys who was trained by this organization, Mehmet Agca, went crazy and shot the Pope in 1981.

Resolve of a people is something which cannot be underestimated. It was the main reason why the Vietnamese were able to hold off the American military. Ironically enough this strong national spirit being talked about is still prevalent in most parts of the world. It seems that the anglosphere and to a lesser extent other Western European countries have just seeked to all out erode it.
People mistake Russia for being European and this is probably the reason why SJW lambast Putin for "anti gay" laws but they leave the rich arab countries well alone. Russia and other Orthodox states are strange anomalies, its like a different civilisation all together.
I think liberalism can be embraced without having to take on the whole SJW, multiculturalism worshipping and such. Hopefully Eastern European states that are on the up will take the positives of Western nations and ditch the rest.
Personally I cannot envision why Russia would launch a full out invasion of the Baltic states or Western Europe when mutually assured destruction is still in place. That will always be a barrier and remember the events leading to Crimea weren't random. NATO and Russia have been playing check & mate for a while now, with Georgia, Middle East, Chechnya.
On the other hand ISIS, actually have a relatively larger sized (larger than it should be) support base in Western Europe. With already a few attacks within this year. Yet Russia is the *1 threat.
