This article, writen by a woman, contains the following SJW buzzwords: trigger warning, safe space and rape culture but they're not used in the way one would expect to read in an article to these days, especially in a Toronto based newspaper, author Margaret Wente has been calling out these SJW tools for quite awhile now and hopefully she continues to do so but she is fighting an uphill battle. Ontario, Canada's largest and most influential province is lead by a lesbian premier who seems determined to shove a pro-homosexual, pro-feminist agenda down the people's throats. Why is the gender wage gap still so huge? In Ontario, according to the Toronto Star, women in the work force now make a whopping 31.5 per cent less than men. The Premier, Kathleen Wynne, says the problem is so grave that she has ordered her ministers to develop a strategy that will “close the gap.” But how? Here’s one idea. Get women in university to switch their majors. Instead of sociology, they should take petroleum engineering, which pays three or four times as much. That would close the gap in no time.

In fact, most (not all) of the wage gap is a myth, based on the same sort of flawed statistics that vastly inflate the problem of “rape culture.” Yet if you doubt the magnitude of either of these problems, you will probably be denounced as a misogynist, or worse. Just ask Christina Hoff Sommers, a mild-mannered feminist who argues that modern feminism has gone off the deep end. Take the pay gap. She points out that much of the gap is explained by the fact that women choose career paths that pay less than the work men choose. Once you correct for occupational differences, hours worked per week, and tenure in the work force, most of the pay gap disappears. The statistics bear her out. Ms. Sommers’ views are so menacing that when she spoke at Oberlin College in Ohio last month, students organized a “safe space” so that anyone who was traumatized by her remarks could seek support. For her own safety, she was given a police escort. When she told the crowd how women could narrow the wage gap by switching into engineering, they erupted with “horrified gasps & jeers,” according to her tweet. Claudia Goldin, a Harvard economic historian, is probably the most authoritative expert on the history of gender and wages. So what’s her take? It’s more nuanced than Ms. Sommers’, but just as challenging to entrenched beliefs. “The converging roles of men and women are among the grandest advances in society and the economy in the last century,” she writes. Over the past few decades, the wage gap had narrowed sharply as women caught up with men in education, job experience and career choice, and even began to surpass them in some areas. In pharmacy – a high-paying, family-friendly field where women now dominate – there is no wage gap. Pharmacists, as Prof. Goldin notes, can work as much or as little as they like, with no penalty for part-time work. Occupations in which people are relatively interchangeable don’t have wage gaps. Nor do ones that don’t require much face time and can be done remotely. Many tech jobs are like this.

The two job areas with the greatest gender gaps are corporate management and finance. (They’re also among the highest paying.) These are jobs where, as Prof. Goldin said in a recent interview, “people earn a disproportionate premium for working long and continuous hours.” In these jobs, face time, interpersonal relationships and long hours are extremely important. Flextime may be fine for worker bees, but not for people aiming to make partner or the C-suite. This explains why female MBAs and lawyers experience the biggest gender pay gaps of all. They start out equal, but the gap increases hugely over time as women start to have kids, then narrows a bit as they come back into the work force.

This is not a problem that can be fixed by legislation. (Sorry, Ms. Wynne.) But some people believe that it can, and should, be fixed by companies. This is the view of the authors of an alarming new study by Bain & Company, reported in the Harvard Business Review. It found that the longer women work in corporate life, the less confident they are that they can make it to the top – and the less they want to. This applies to women both with and without kids. Why? Because male workaholic culture turns them off.

Here’s one woman, recounting her firm’s recent management retreat: “Watching middle-aged white male after middle-age white male tell their war stories of sacrificing everything to close the sale was demoralizing, I just kept sinking lower in my chair and thinking that I would never be able to make it to the senior ranks if this was what it took.”

And another: “Top-level execs are ‘on’ 24/7 and that is not appealing at all.”

In other words, the world is still run by people – mostly men – who are married to their jobs. People who get to the top, as the Bain report points out, are those who maintain a high profile in the organization “and an unwavering commitment to long hours and constant work.” They start early, leave late and check their cellphones twice a nanosecond. The authors argue that these are false measures of success, and that there are better ones, and no doubt they have a point. Here’s the problem. Plenty of men actually enjoy working this hard. I suspect they aren’t about to stop it just because it’s unfair to women.

So if we really want to close the pay gap, we’ll have to control the behaviour of men. Maybe there ought to be a law. Maybe it should be illegal to work 24/7 and sacrifice everything to close the sale. Imagine, if women ran the world, how much more civilized life would be.

This isn't hypothetical. I've seen commentary suggesting that for example men should be required to take paternity leave in order to de-stigmatize women in the hiring process. Their logic, if you can call it that, is that this would remove the incentive to hire men over women because of pregnancy related absences.

It makes sense. In an Orwellian, lowest-common-denominator kind of way.

Things are wacky in Ontario, it's coming; I'm thinking a provincially-mandated maximum workweek length, but who knows, it could be something much more sinister like a 'Penis Tax' - where men who busted their asses to get that STEM degree are taxed higher to make up for women with the same degree who drop out of the field at 30 to spend time with the kids.

I don't buy that. I doubt that a great many jobs that women are concentrated into would become male oriented over even a long term time table and much less over night.

Would there be more male primary school teachers? Maybe. But then they would probably quit within a year or two after being constantly looked at as either less masculine, gay, or a pedo or even worse...all of the above depending on which soccer mom is pissed off at the moment.

Child care, to a large degree, has always been female dominated. Especially at the earliest ages, but I think it used to be much more male focused around them Middle and High School levels in the past. Especially before and at the turn of the century and after WW2 when a large number of veterans went into the teaching fields.

Also, there are a lot of other jobs that are female oriented that are not likely to ever be heavily male due to demographics. I am specifically speaking of jobs related to elder care. If you look at the numbers, for ever male in a retirement home, hospital, or receiving some sort of hospice care, then there are like 10-20 females. Us men, even with our growing life spans, just don't last as long as women. This becomes even more clear when you really start getting up in age. At 70 women out number men but there are plenty of people on both sides at 70 who don't require some sort of 24/7, or 6/6 even, care. When you get into the 80s and 90s, there will always be more women by a large magnitude than men. So, how are men going to go into that field?

Who wants to hire some male to help bath their grandmother who has dementia? If you look at job opening in this area, there are plenty of positions that need to be filled. I know this cause I have spent the last five years taking care of my grandmother who had dementia, she recently passed. Every job position pretty much specifically states that they are only looking for women and this actually isn't illegal because it is seen as a personal choice and a requirement for the job. However, my great uncle before he passed did have a great care assistant. I met the guy a few times and he seemed really cool. He put together a mens club at the retirement home and would take the men bowling and to the movies and even sneak them out to the bar to shoot the shit. So, there might be some good placements available for guys who want to go into this field but I don't think it will ever reach parity.

Now, things like veterinarians or pharmacy technicians could. Hell, even nurses might. All of these jobs have traditionally been done by men, though I think nursing has always had a slight primary focus on women, and could be taken over by men again. Secretaries used to be men until technology replaced the need for drafting and then women became typists. So, there is definitely some areas that could become masculinized again, especially lawyers and doctors, but I doubt traditionally feminine areas will.

Also, if you really break it all down. Our entire system is already a male tax. I would figure that between 70-90% of our system, depending on what elements you take into account, is a wealth redistribution from men to women. We make more money but women spend and controls upwards of 80% of all wealth. Child support and Alimony is the most blatant example of this wealth distribution, with the government skimming off the top. Social Security is another good example. Men start working earlier, work more hours, make more money, and retire later but receive a far smaller portion than what they will ever pay into the system. Both of my grandfathers worked their entire lives to the bone, one serving in WW2 after being drafted and also later serving in Korea, and they both got their first SS checks after they died. One got it one week later and the other got it three weeks later. Bot checks had to be returned so as not to double dip, even though that was money they paid into the system and in my opinion should rightfully have gone to the families.

I honestly wish they would just go ahead and take over. Mandate that 55%-65% (cause equal representation and affirmative action and all) of all STEM degrees be awarded to women. All CEO positions and managerial roles and so on. I would love to see the system completely collapse. All those stem guys would blow a fuse and take the red pill. Companies would outsource overseas, if not completely stop their operations, and guys who know what they are doing in these fields would make bank as private contractors fixing all the problems that the influx of estrogen caused.

I've already ranted about this in other posts, but will say it again: once you have a lesbian in a position of power (CEO, Judge, politician) you are looking at a disaster. I think even red pill men have a hard time accepting, how utterly evil lesbians are in power.

Check back in a few years and inevitably you'll see the organization with a lesbian leader, will have collapsed or will be *seriously* weird and fucked-up, will be pursuing policies that aggressively criminalize all men, all the time.

Guys often think about lesbians as "women who like to have sex with other women" but that's not really accurate. Lesbians are better defined as "women who passionately hate men and hate normal society". They are essentially full of hate, down to their core, and given power they will abuse it any way needed to destroy those they hate.

Gay men on the other hand, aren't usually haters of society in quite the same way as lesbians. Most of them are fine working in organizations and are fine caring for and protecting the rights of other men, and of women too.

I find it offensive that while chicks in Venezuela are telling me how bad it is in Venezuela right now that people are literally starving and dying on the streets, these "empowered" twats, mainly Canadian-born and/or white women from Ontario are complaining that they are "oppressed" in their overpaid public sector of state media journalist job.

It should also be noted in the article that Kathleen Wynne, the leader of Cuntario, a woman who kicked her husband to the basement while carpet munching with another lesbian in the master bedroom, is one of the most hated leaders in Canada because of her veiled attempts to using the law to criminalize a healthy society while justifying it as womens' rights.

Kathleen Wynne is NEVER going to admit publicly that an immigrant women, black woman or Aboriginal woman working in a dead-end hazardous, min. wage job for minimum wage is PAID LESS than approximately 1000% per year compared to a female school administrator working for a bloated school board like the Toronto District School Board or York Region school Board.

When is Kathleen Wynne going to admit that the generous 2 to 4 week vacation pay for a majority of public sector workers, mostly female, equals to approximately 2 to 4 MONTHS of earnings for a minimum wage worker?

The problem with Kathleen Wynne and wage gap is that women like Valerie Guillaume, a black woman activist, is denied certain social assistance benefits from management in her city--The Management who is paid over 100k a year, and their yearly raises amount on average 4k to 15k per year increase.

Kathleen Wynne is a hypocrite, and she is using real female poverty to enrich herself and her cronies. I doubt that the majority of money which will be used to "combat the wage gap" would ever meet the pockets of the poor and needy.

It's those political agenda crusaders who cry "wage gap" who are the ones to take sick days and vacation days in a year, which amount to earnings equal to a month or more of earnings for a poor person in Canada, while purchasing the latest Chanel and/or Hermes handbag and denying poor people certain social benefits for bureaucracy.

I don't want to sound like a Conservative-Marxist, but the real reason that there is a "wage gap" is because the public sector in Canada is bloated with paper shufflers who are paid from forced taxation of the working class of people....
